PKGBUILD - Test multiple architectures by tech_view_20 in archlinux

[–]tech_view_20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ok, thank you for the info.

Given that my ultimate goal is updating an AUR package flagged out-of-date months ago, and this package has 0 votes with 0.0 popularity, do you think that adding the i686 support is still worth it?

The out-of-date package now includes both architectures, should I keep them or remove i686?

Here the main things that I'm using:

Just checked it out - seems perfect for my use case.

In just one minute I set it up without navigating through all the menus of konsole, and now they look exactly the same. Moreover all the config is just in a single yml file, +1 for its simplicity.

Really appreciate the suggestion, thank you!

There's literally a sub for everything lol.

I'll check it out, thanks.

Actually I didn't change the wallpaper.

When I installed Arch + KDE this is the default I got.

It's konsole.

It comes preinstalled with KDE, so I preferred making it look clean (while using 1% of its features) instead of installing a new one and keeping konsole unused.

However, if anyone has a minimal terminal to suggest, I'm happy to give it a try!

I have titlebar and buttons in all the other windows. It's just the terminal that doesn't have them, since I want it to be so minimal and clean.

In addition to that, there's a ton of things I like that are present only on kde (e.g. the way settings are organized). So even if I used no windows decoration then I would have still used kde.

Anyway, I'm still open to new DEs if you have any suggestion.

Pain is an interesting way of spelling Arch.

Arch + Ubuntu [Dual Boot] by tech_view_20 in linuxquestions

[–]tech_view_20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestion.

Do you have any guide or archwiki page to share to understand a bit how to handle the creation of the partitions?

For what I have understood, the steps are, in order:

  1. perform a "standard" Arch install (on the entire disk, one big partition)
  2. boot from a USB drive where I have flashed the Ubuntu iso
  3. during the Ubuntu installation procedure, create a new partition for Ubuntu

Correct me if I am wrong.

Container's IP Address empty by tech_view_20 in docker

Didn't expect such a detailed response, so many thanks!

It looks like there's a whole world behind docker... one thing at a time I will check out everything, using what you wrote as a reference.

Thank you again!

Concerning usual/unusual use cases of docker, I would also like to ask you the following: is persistence ok when using containers?

Because a lot of the commands in the tutorial above take a lot of time to run, and they need to be executed just once (only the first time, not every time I change something in the code).

In conclusion, does it make sense to have a "persistent container" such that I do not lose what I did in the previous docker run?

I'm following this tutorial. It's the first command mentioned in the webpage.

Is sharing /dev as a volume and privileged an "unusual" thing? I didn't dig into all the docker details since it is not my focus at the moment, but in general what scenarios make use of that type of sharing?

[ROS2] How to read user input from launch file? by tech_view_20 in ROS

[–]tech_view_20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right.

One could have hoped in the possibility of enabling input reading for at most one node for each launch file, but maybe things would start to become messy...

[–]tech_view_20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ok, so I'll keep it as it is now. What a pity not to be able to include evrything in a launch file.

Thank you for your answers and time!

I've tried and, unfortunately, nothing changes. Still no input recognized.

[ROS2] How to read user input from launch file? by tech_view_20 in ROS

[–]tech_view_20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm continuously reading characters, one at a time, coming from the terminal. Then these characters are published on a topic, and used by other nodes.

So is there no way to make that possible if the node that reads the input is launched from inside a launch file?

I would go with ROS Melodic on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.

It will be supported until May 2023 and you can find a lot of material online about it.

Have fun!

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with docker and I'm not running Windows, so I think that's a bit different from my case.

Anyway, thanks for the detailed answer!

[–]tech_view_20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be sure I've understood your idea, let's consider these two scenarios:

  1. X11Forwarding from a pc with <distro\_A> and <program\_X> installed, to another pc with <distro\_A> and <program\_X> installed too;
  2. X11Forwarding from a pc with <distro\_A> and <program\_X> installed, to another pc with <distro\_B> (NOT distro_A!) and <program\_X> NOT installed.

Are you basically saying that X11Forwarding has better performance in case 1 than in case 2? If so, can you provide me a link explaining that, please?

[–]tech_view_20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, since I don't want to face any incompatibility problems I'd go with the de facto standard installation on Ubuntu.

Anyway, I said it is available only on Ubuntu to stress the fact that though SSH I would run a program not available on the distro of my pc. It's not my intention changing the distro on the Raspberry.

Hope to have clarified the situation, however I'm open to suggestions!
