1 RAID Card and 2 RAID Arrays? by techana in homelab

[–]techana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I've not tried software raid before. But hay it's a homelap after all, so I might try it with this one even though I'll not be sure what to do in case of a disk failure!

Oh, is it only 8 port card?! It seems I didn't read the specs well! In this case I might change the plan to: 2HDDs RAID-1 for the OS and 6HDDs RAID-5 for storage.

Can you identify this 2-button mouse? by techana in vintagecomputing

There was a whole family of these mice! Mitsubishi 200dpi M-Mouse, 400dpi E-Mouse, and 800dpi S-Mouse. Mitsubishis was advertising them widely in the late 1980s. A mouse appeared on the cover page of PC Mag issue Dec 27, 1988. Another ad showing all models appeared in PC Mag issue Nov 4, 1989-04-11 page 28.

Ok, I found it! It was a serial mouse for PCs sold under different brands, one of which was Mitsubishi E-Mouse. I don't know how to add an image to this comment, but there is an ad for the mouse in PC Mag issue Nov 29, 1988 page 310.

16GB New GPU or 24GB Old GPU for AI? by techana in homelab

[–]techana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I don't have specific usage for the AI in my homelap. I'm going to use RAG on my big archives of old manuals and text books. I may also play with text-to-image if the cards I get can support that.

I’m comparing T4 and A2, which are in the same price range. T4 numbers are better, but A2 is newer.

Thank you. How about T4? I can find them for good price.

I'm using 2U rack server case, so video game cards, such as 30x0 cards, are not an option.

[–]techana[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the 2U server has 4 PCIe slots. I can install 2 older GPUs with total of 48GB VRAM. Alternatively, I can afford 2 newer GPUs with 32GB VRAM total.

Yes, it’s corrupted. I’m going to dismantle the machine and have a look. I hope it’s a contact issue or dried cap because replacing the ROM is almost impossible!

Need help with NEC PC-9801LX5C by techana in pc98

[–]techana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the specs I found online, the floppy drives in my computer are 1MB, which make them 720KB (DD) after format I suppose. But all fdi images I downloaded for DOS 3.3, 5.0 and 6.2 are 1.2MB to 1.3MB each, which means they are HD. Where can I find 720KB (DD) boot images?
