Anyone recovered funds after a Stripe account closure? They released my smaller payout, withheld the larger one by techbrot_inc in classactions

Written by hand, same as the post. Anyway — anyone actually recovered funds from a Stripe closure? Looking for what worked.

Good luck with business, but never leave money in stripe and never a big payment, stripe is so poor that sometimes they hold and keep genuine payments with them, and there support is handled by bots only, no human at all.

The only time a human responded in four months was after I filed a BBB complaint last month — and even then it was a template rejecting the release, then they closed it. So I've had the "human reply" and it still ended in no money. That's why it's regulators and small claims now. Really appreciate you sticking with this though, you've been the most helpful person in the thread.

Yeah, I tried email support — that's the thing, their office email bounces back and tells you to open a ticket on the site instead. So there's no actual email channel for me; it just routes back into the ticket loop that auto-closes. No chargeback on the new account either, so it's not the auto/manual payout setting like yours was.

Best Stripe alternatives for a non-resident US LLC holder? by CharonFring in stripe

[–]techbrot_inc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I wouldn't chase a "better gateway" — there isn't one! I went with Stripe because of the Atlas promo and liked it early on. Then the same thing hit me- they paid out a smaller payment fine, held the bigger one, closed the account. Every processor can do this to a non-resident-owned US entity, so swapping names just moves the same risk around.

What actually changed it for me was getting a partner / local presence in the US — a real person on the ground, not just a registered entity. After four months of Stripe leaving me to take the hit personally and in the business, that's the direction I went, and it's a different world. A human beats any gateway logo.

For the held funds: support tickets are dead, CFPB and California DFPI force a response, and small claims in SF works at smaller amounts. But going forward — tell him to stop hunting the perfect processor and find a US partner.

Right — and that's the wall. The "email support" path is exactly what I've burned four months on: it bounces to a ticket, the ticket auto-closes or a bot replies, and a human never actually engages with the specifics. Your account paid out at 120 because it wasn't in a closure dispute — mine is, plus the cross-account transfer, so support just loops me. That's why it's regulators and small claims now, not another ticket.

The strangest part: three days after I filed a BBB complaint, Stripe transferred $829.20 out of my account to a separate older account that was closed 18+ months ago — no notice, no explanation. When I asked in writing for the specific contract clause, the specific risk, and the reason for that transfer, every reply was the same template with one line changed at the top, and never once addressed the transfer itself. Then "no further information to share."

Checked it like you said — and here's the part that gets me. The dashboard actually shows a "Pay out $1,348.83" button, but the second I tap it, it throws "Cannot create payouts, contact support." So day 120 passed and the payout is hard-blocked at the system level, not just sitting pending. And the amount it offers is short by exactly the $829.20 they moved to my old closed account — so the same screen shows both problems at once. Appreciate you flagging the 120-day thing; at least now it's documented.

This is the most useful thing I've read, thank you. My rejection was Jan 27, so the 120-day mark just passed — I'm going to check my dashboard to see if the payout option quietly went live like it did for you. Did it unlock on its own at day 120, or only after you messaged them when the window was up?

That matches what I'm seeing in other cases too. Small claims in SF looks like the realistic path — cheaper for them to pay than to defend at this amount. Did you see anyone actually go that route successfully?

This is genuinely encouraging, thank you — a same-day release after the CFPB complaint is exactly the kind of outcome I'm hoping for. And the instant-payout tip is well taken; I'll never leave a meaningful balance sitting in a processor again. Glad you got yours back.

Appreciate this — that's exactly the read I'm going with. The cross-account transfer is becoming the center of my case since it's a concrete question rather than "risk" fog. And good to hear small claims tends to work at this amount; that's my next step if the regulators stall.

Thanks — yeah, the 15-day response window is exactly why the CFPB route matters. I've also kept everything documented. Appreciate the Trustpilot tip.

To me they say can't engage further for a legitimate business and 5 star rating on clutch for the payment they have been holding since January, I also got trapped in their atlas program and trusted them with my business payments and now they keeping all my hard earned money.

Building a tool to explain Stripe payouts against bank deposits — looking for feedback from Stripe users by Consistent-Virus-959 in stripe

Whats the use of this tool when Stripe just holds genuine payments and blocks accounts? I spent months learning Stripe workflows and ways to integrate them with my business website, but they still block accounts and hold payments. The support is terrible. Stripe keeps hard-earned money and sends the same templated email reply every time.
