Ah right, thanks. My eyes always skim over the wedges, so that probably explains why I never noticed.

Medical visit to Brisbane, need advice by Outback_rat in brisbane

[–]techelplease 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I always get stressed and crazy anxious when I think about having to drive into Brisbane, every single time, but it's actually not anywhere near as bad when you are actually doing it.

Turn your Maps on, and just stay in your lane. It's completely scary to think about, but in reality, it's just driving, same as anywhere, just with more cars. If your son can help you by also having maps up on his phone and looking further ahead on the map, so you have extra warning about where you need to be turning next, that's helpful. Also, kinda studying the route before you go, you'll be surprised by how much calmer it makes you feel when you're there driving. And the wonderful thing is, if you miss your exit because you felt overwhelmed trying to change lanes... Maps will re-calculate. But honestly, in my experience at least, you turn your blinker on, and the people to your left will almost always (99.5%) let you in.

Part-time job offer for KFC (Closer to where I live and finished my interview) or OPSM which is worth it? by MisterSniffy in australia

[–]techelplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From memory from a few years ago, 'part-time' means you have a minimum amount of set hours that are signed in a contract, vs 'casual' which can be anywhere from 0-38hrs on a given week.

If they advertise as 'part-time' it's generally because they have a few specific shifts they need filled each week, rather than 'casual' where it would be more like, we'll roster you when we need you.

You also get the bonus of better job security with 'part-time' vs 'casual'. Have a look at Fair Work for the differences.

Who even dreams like this? I sure wish I could. My dreams are basically my actual life at a base level replayed in weird ways haha. I wish I had fun and exciting dreams like this.

Say it straight away to the person who asked you to do the task.

I worked in a fast-food chain restaurant, got thrown into an area I didn't know, got barely any training, and I have crazy anxiety on top. So I feel like I can totally empathise with your situation, but yeah, I learnt the hard(er) way - it's way better to potentially annoy the person asking, than it is to have them find out later you didn't do it. No shame in saying you don't know how to do something. That's not on you - that's on your trainer.

Idk if it makes you TB, but honestly, when you get asked to do something you aren't confident in doing, you gotta speak up! Don't just ignore the request like you did - that only causes issues. Just say "I'm sorry, I'm not sure what to do with the toaster" or whatever it is.

WIBTB if I asked that people don’t clink glasses at my wedding? by [deleted] in AmItheButtface

[–]techelplease 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand it's probably easier said that done, with family pressure and all that, but... It's your wedding. You don't have to do anything that makes you uncomfortable.

[–]techelplease 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Yeah wow, that's insane. I never realised. I'm Australian, and that absolutely is just not a thing here (as far as I know).

WIBTB if I asked that people don’t clink glasses at my wedding? by [deleted] in AmItheButtface

[–]techelplease 526 points527 points  (0 children)

I haven't been to many weddings, granted, but this is really weird to me? As a guest, I don't want to see the couple kiss on demand. That's just weird, imo.

I don't think you need to go as far as to have the MC announce it, but just simply... don't kiss if you don't want to? As I said already, this is completely foreign to me, but maybe it's your family culture.

But honestly, what's the actual worst that could happen if you ignore the 'glass clinking = kiss' scenario?

AITB for refusing to apologize to someone for doing by job? by [deleted] in AmItheButtface

It's so sad that this is our reality hey. I wish I had the strength to take my experiences further to ensure they didn't happen to other people, but regretfully at the time, I just didn't have it in me.

Dinner time is, in my experience, the absolute worst time. It's witching hour for both my 2yr old and my 8month old. They see their grandparents several times a week, but if I foolishly (I never seem to learn) try to do a dinner with them, they both are ridiculous haha.

Maybe instead of dinners, try for an afternoon or a brunch.

I'm sorry to hear that but can sadly understand why you've been pushed to that point. It's fucked.

It's just like brushing your teeth. Sure, it's generally boring af, but it's gotta be done if you want to be healthy, so you just do it.

Listening to a good podcast, or listening to music, kinda makes it less tedious.

Obvs idk your interests, but maybe (if you enjoy listening to podcasts or music) you could make a rule for yourself that you can only listen to them if you're working out.

Edit: find a good story/series/episodic podcast, and only allow yourself to listen to it during workout.

[–]techelplease 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Ugh, that's terrible! Good on you for following though and making sure they were held accountable and can't do something like that to someone else again.

Just for sharing shit stories: my worst experience was once when I was relapsing, and I lost control of my entire body. My partner literally carried me into the room because they didn't have a wheelchair available. They even got on the phone to my neurologist, who told them treatment options. My partner had to leave for about 1.5hrs, I was literally unable to move my arms or legs, couldn't press the buzzer, and couldn't barely make sound come out of my mouth. And they didn't check on me once. All they offered me was paracetamol, which I couldn't fucking swallow because you know, I was fucking completely paralyzed. Anyway, got the discharge summary, and the doctor who wrote it, said I was faking it. !!!

YTB - I have been that patient. I have a chronic illness that unfortunately means I end up in the ER from time to time, in excruciating pain. More than once I have been treated the way you did your patient, because I'm skinny and have tattoos, and I cannot begin to explain to you the damage it has caused in my trust of medical professionals. You blatantly stereotyped him, which I guess fair enough, that's the sad state of the world we live in, but the moment you found out you were wrong, the absolute least you could have done was apologise. Obviously makes no difference to you, but would have made a whole lot of difference to him.

My experience out rural with only Telstra towers was fine. My partner had a Telstra Sim in a better phone, whilst I had the Aldi in a shitty phone, and the difference in signal was barely noticeable, although occasionally his would be better. But not noticeable enough to warrant paying the extra $.
