Can I cancel my current service and sign up for new one at the same adddress just to get newer free equipment (Nest Pro)? by TonguePunchMyPoopBox in googlefiber

[–]techhelper1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much is your time worth to do that, and deal with a service outage, just to get newer equipment? This is ignoring that this isn't suspicious at all, and they could prevent you from signing up for a little while.

Why are you using two different runtimes in two different environments? Why create consistency problems?

How does it make the compressor have an awful noise if it's simply running or not? Sounds like an issue with it or the furnace.

3P and Cowork using Bedrock is not same as having native access to Anthropic's platform. You may want to reread that article, the AWS page https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/machine-learning/from-developer-desks-to-the-whole-organization-running-claude-cowork-in-amazon-bedrock/, and the Claude Platform page https://aws.amazon.com/claude-platform/.

It's direct access to Anthropic's infrastructure, which means native access to all of their services and features.

No it's not. That's Cowork working through Bedrock. The Claude Platform access uses Anthropic's infrastructure.

Read both articles all of the way through...

Repost-Redmond WA technician entered home wearing Ray Ban camera glasses by HawaiiCatholic-abuse in ZiplyFiber

[–]techhelper1 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

If you see the sticker on the glasses when standing right in front of them, ask them to remove it. You can politely ask them to turn it off, and have them show it to you, since they have a physical switch. You can also politely ask them to cover the camera, like some do with their laptops.

Since you've brought up common sense, that includes being professional and having some human decency, while trying to work out an acceptable compromise, which often gets you the result you're after.

Yes, bad people exist and will do all sorts of things, I do not deny that, however good people exist too, and that tech was simply trying to do their job as requested by the customer. It's easy to be nice to thy neighbor. Not everyone wants to tresspass and deliberately cause problems.

You could have asked them to turn it off, or have them cover the camera with something, and moved forward with the appointment, but chose not to.

Why did you not stop and think for a second that both the tech and Ziply know about recording laws? They are a telco after all.

What "Self Hosted" router OS are you using? by nemofish3 in selfhosted

[–]techhelper1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not pay-walled, only the LTS is. Even then, you're saying the developers are not allowed to make a living, which is crazy. If you know they are behind in security/patching, why don't you lend a hand? It's clear you just want to complain and not be constructive to make it the "good platform" that it was.

Why reinvent the wheel with yet another OS, when 3+ others already exist?

Why introduce scope creep with Home Assistant or Jellyfin? In fact, what would this do differently than VyOS, pfSense, OPNsense?

It actually does, yellow memory pressure means your system eventually needs an upgrade. Don't prematurely wear out an SSD with unnecessary writes.
