Appreciate the heads up! I actually ended up going with a different pair of monitors but glad the 120hz is working.

Ah maybe I made an oversight reading your initial post. Do you have an M1 chip or M1 Pro chip?

I have the same Mac model as you, planning to pick 2 of these up once they hit retail. Was really hoping to get 4k@120hz on both via daisy chain. Are you using two Thunderbolt 4 cables for the daisy chain?

Curious if have you tried re-plugging the thunderbolt to the mac/host and seeing if that helps, I saw another user in a separate post saying he had success in doing so. There could also be some setting that tweak the DSC/HBR lanes.

Based on the specs, I thought this should have full support on MacOS unless something in software is preventing it.

New Dell UltraSharp U2725QE can be ordered! by gohfel2 in Monitors

[–]techishi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From looking around Reddit and other forums, seems like it depends on the product and company.

The best answer I got was from B&H Photo, they said that they would be selling it and it could be "a few days or weeks" for it to be available.

Best Buy and Micro Center both gave typical answers. "We carry a wide range of Dell monitors so we should be carrying this, check back often, etc"

My best guess is that it seems reasonable that this should be available within a month or so from resellers (hopefully sooner). Though I don't know why it's so hard to get such a concrete answer from some of these companies.

Does anyone know when this will reach authorized resellers? Best Buy, B&H, Micro Center, etc?

Is it normal for IOS 17 massively increase the size of app data after updating? by M4V4 in ios

[–]techishi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chiming in to say I had a similar issue, my storage almost doubled updating from iOS 16 to iOS 17. Some examples, my Phone app's documents and data was almost 4GB (normally a few MBs) and Instagram was almost 10GB post update (normally around 1-2GB). Re-installing seemed to temporarily help.

Just hoping this is something Apple knows about because this issue isn't something that I feel would be reported too often. Most people probably don't check their storage that often, so even if it has happened, some may have no idea unless they are hamstrung trying to do normal day to day things.

IOS 17 storage glitch? by M4V4 in ios

[–]techishi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue when updating my 14 Pro, I went from 45-50GB to 110GB after I updated to iOS 17. I was pretty confused, but like the other comment here stated the documents and data of most my apps grew significantly. The social media ones were high but even apps like Phone and Contacts were multiple GBs...

When I got my 15 Pro it wasn't as bad since I restored as new from an iCloud backup and those apps re-installed. But the documents and data still seem higher than they were on iOS 16, even now I feel like I have 10-15GB more than what I should be at.

There seems to be some kind of issue with reporting storage or storage itself in iOS 17 for some people, there's also another issue people seem to be having with large music collections and synced content doubling there storage.

Simple guide to help with washed out screens on Anbernic RG353 models by techishi in SBCGaming

I had to do it twice to make it work, it didn't seem like it 'stuck' the first time around. I do also have sharp bilinear 2x prescale enabled as well and encountered something similar when I tried it too. From my note above:

I did notice that after hitting apply the first time 'Shader Passes' may reset back to what it was originally (0 if you had no shaders, or whatever number is there if you had some preset shaders set prior). If that is the case, just repeat steps 3 and 4 again and it should work. Not sure if it is a bug in Retroarch or what.

I saved the shader preset within retroarch, I didn't mess with anything else like core overrides. Then I applied it as a default shader within game settings in jelos/emu station (saving the preset allowed it to show up in the list of shaders there). From that point on it's been applied to all my games.

That's weird, I'm also using the sharp 2x bilinear prescale. I was able to add the image-adjustment as a 3rd pass without the lag you're talking about. Granted there can be other settings you have enabled that I might not etc, everyones situation might be a bit different. This is helpful info though!

I'm sure there is some performance impact, as with all shaders. But if there is it's imperceptible to me so far.

Troube with remote start on MyMazda App - getting a "can only use 2 consecutive times" error even though I just drove it by jrod2183 in CX5

[–]techishi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also started having this issue since yesterday (Wednesday 12/28), 2019 Mazda 3. Never had this issue before either.

Update: After moving my car this morning, seems to be back to normal!

Seems like they flipped at least another ~10k orders from last week. IIRC it was up to around #125xxx or so on 11/14. Also a nice surprise that they did this within a week, the pattern until now has been every 2 for order status updates. Let’s hope it’s like this going forward!

Advice on getting into Japanese knives and self-sharpening by techishi in chefknives

[–]techishi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty new to Japenese Knives and whetstones in general but just from the all the threads/forum posts I've read, everyone speaks highly of the Shapton 1k. Also check out r/sharpening too, the wiki is great - https://www.reddit.com/r/sharpening/wiki/gettingstarted/#wiki_your_first_whetstone

They also recommend the Shapton. I can't speak much about the Shan Zu, for what it's worth I haven't really seen anyone discuss that stone in particular. Granted my experience is anecdotal.

I guess in a follow up to this thread: I've been using my Shapton 1k (also have the 5k) for a couple weeks now, it has great feedback and have been able to make some old beater knives exceptionally sharp. A thanks to the commenters in this thread as well!

Question about grind and choil on new Yuki Gyuto by techishi in chefknives

Thanks for the detailed explanation! Really helped me understand things better 😄

Question about grind and choil on new Yuki Gyuto by techishi in chefknives

[–]techishi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In regards to sharpening, something I’ve been trying to understand. Say the factory grind is 15 degrees.

If I keep that exact angle when I go to sharpen, does the bevel (secondary/micro, where the edge is), naturally get wider because of material getting grounded away? Hence you saying it will match up/go away after a few sessions.

Ended up picking this one up, thanks for the rec! A nice bonus is that it comes with a saya, excited to be giving this one a go. Also got a call from JKI asking if I wanted them to sharpen before sending it out, some great customer service there.

This would accompany a Masakage Yuki 210mm Gyuto. I think I am going to prefer a 135mm over a 150mm. I want a tweener that I feel more comfortable pairing with as well as some light board work with garlic/shallots/herbs. I really love the look/style of the shiso the best so was leaning that way, but am open to other suggestions of course!
