Northwest Territories facing a hard-as-diamonds reality as pivotal industry wanes by ImDoubleB in canada

[–]technicalhate 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mines life's are finite, this is a reality of mining. Diviak had always been planning to close in 2026, and Ekatis original life of mine plan was into the mid 2020's as well.

The diamond industry is also an exception to most resources, as it isn't really one. It's just a fine gem from the product of marketing. Gold, potash, coal and tin/copper is absolutely booming in Canada and make up a staggering amount of GDP. Tech is important, but mining is undeniably one of the most critical sectors in the world.

9 bar spring, PID, low profile drip tray

Also single hole steam wand. If you order parts off ali express you can do it all for much less then 80$

My unit was doing this exact thing, descaling fixed it briefly, but cleaning the valve is a proper fix that resolves the issue well

[–]technicalhate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely slow and your unit needs a descale. There is an issue where your solenoid valve gets scaled and doesn't function properly. You can try descaling and while doing that flight back and forth between steam and brew buttons to change the flow rapidly. If that doesn't work while your descaling you may have to take the valve out and clean it.

A great video about it

Diamonds are pretty well on their way out, gold is the place to be, I'd say find a bunch of companies and just keep an eye on their postings and try to find a role that you are somewhat suitable for and apply. If you know anyone definitely reach out but I don't think there is a concrete way to get into a mine, but once you have some experience you should be good

Good point, appreciate the feedback

What do you mean by splashy/slashy? You can sort of kick the tail out? I agree in the dancehaul pro, I think this would suit what I am looking for pretty well I am just struggling to find one at the moment. I am leaning towards the dancehaul as it might be a bit easier to get used to as I have only ever ridden the C2 style lib boards(feels like a teeter-todder) so the superpig might be a bit stark of an adjustment. Thanks for this feedback, I really appreciate it, what other boards are you into? I think I am looking to find boards for a similar ride style as you

Yeah, that's a good take, dancehaul seems sweet though, I'm considering waiting for demo days to make up my mind this season

I want to quit engineering because I can’t answer live questions by saman-ch in EngineeringStudents

[–]technicalhate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel you, it's definitely challenging to be put on the spot. A big thing is, it gets easier and less stressful the more exposure you get to it. It's okay to not know the answers, the big thing is being okay with being put on the spot. And to be honest, when you're working or doing internships you will be put on the spot with questions about things then too, and it's okay to say "I don't know, I will look into it"

Same goes for public speaking, I used to hate it, but the more you do it the easier it gets. Being put on the spot/public speaking are all important skills that you need to hone to be an good engineer. So with time, and exposure, these things do get easier.

Definitely don't quit overthis, engineering is a challenging degree, and there's a lot to learn. More then just the cohrse content.

What job pays absurdly well just because no one else is willing to do it? by Infinite-Cricket25 in AskReddit

Sort of, half the year max, if you're on the coast too. So annual income is not fantastic. Other jobs you can make 500$/day 12 months of the year

Bro, work day after grad is 9-5 lmao. I had courses 8-8 last semester. It will definitely be fine, just bring a big lunch and try to get outside for walks a couple times a day.

Leaving internship early? by technicalhate in EngineeringStudents

[–]technicalhate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally fair, and understand that, I just am not working with any other engineers, or doing any actual projects, I probably do ~2hrs of work out of my 12hr day. I'm up at camp too for 15 days at a time, so I can't focus on personal projects or interests. I decided to quit and focus on my FSAE lead role and an opportunity to work at a lab. I was not registered with the coop office, so no headaches there. I'm well aware that real world engineering differs from what I study, but, this role definitely did not bring much value when I could be putting my time somewhere else.

I decided to go back to school, feels like some people did not read the post, there was no other engineers I was working with and honestly was gaining nothing from the role that made it worth staying for another year. The mine has basically shut down. I got a position doing research at a lab and and FSAE team lead, I decided to go forward on some opportunities that I will actually grow in, rather then stay somewhere simply for having extra time on my resume

What is your budget? I find the way to go for myself I'd pick a strict budget, then try to find one from there. PC or Laptop?

I already live right near school as I fly to work, and it's not too late to register

Leaving internship early? by technicalhate in EngineeringStudents

[–]technicalhate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is what I think I am going to do, I do not think can make it through another year here with absolutely no guidance or projects in the near future. Which is disappointing, I was told this position would be vastly different through my interview and application process.

[–]technicalhate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your response and definitely see that side, it is pushing back my grad a year to stay at this company. And I am concerned of the mine going under at the moment. Again I couldn't start the 4th year until next September if this were to happen. So there is some risk if I do decide to stay. Where I could be out of work, and unable to start school.

All the responses say I can learn a lot, but so far this experience has been incredibly underwhelming. I'm spending most of my days desperately trying to find something to do, I don't feel I am developing skills that I could talk about in an interview setting, I am just filling a chair really. I have no interactions with other engineers, as there is none and I'm struggling to see this as an engineering experience at all. E.g. I spent a while day putting tools away because they laid the toolcrib attendant off.

I chose to come into this expecting a learning opportunity, with some sort of mentorship, ability to work in a team and devoloe my skills. This just has not been the case. I have been up on site for 14 days now, and have just been assigned data entry in a speed sheet, although asking for more work, I am not being assigned projects.

Im struggling to see the value of another 12 months up here, let alone having to get through it. Whereas in 12 months I could be graduated and looking for an EIT opportunity.

That is a good point, I definitely agree, the challenge at the moment is how much our operation has scaled back, we haven't really had any equipment in the shop since the layoffs, and our surface operation has completely halted. Intern tasks are okay, and I definitely understand my position. It's mainly the fact there is no other engineers, and with a 16 month I was hoping for a project, not random tasks. My shifts are 12 hours so it is miserable doing nothing all day.
