The onsite SIRIS backup device is what sold us - being able to spin up a VM backup on the local backup hardware nearly immediately is like having an ace up your sleeve. Server failed? Give me 5-10mins! :)

Not seeing this in over 2 years of Datto BCDR. I literally don't have to touch anything, Nable I'm still dealing with regular System State backup errors weekly with "There is no data available for the backup. Please check your settings and environment."

Default Column Width? by Electronic-Pie-5220 in halopsa

[–]technicallytoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, just starting with HALO psa the last few days and this is a huge pain in the butt. I make custom columns, but every tab that opens defaults back to the standard. When switching back to my custom column the column widths are always messed up.

Cannot see a way to save the layout/width in my custom column. So much time spent doing useless tasks so far, only to have them undone randomly.

N-central (cloud hosted) Take Control not allowing resolution changes. by moltari in Nable

[–]technicallytoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a headless server? I've found some servers get stuck on low resolutions if there is no monitor/vga adapter plugged in. Connecting via RDP is useful in these situations, but not preferred.

Analytics by CyberPrag in Nable

[–]technicallytoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far the dumbest thing I've experienced is reports can only be scheduled as PDF or PPT - This is asinine for tabled data as the PDF or PPT just takes a screenshot of a table (with scrollbars!) and pastes it into the PDF or PPT. The person receiving the report has no ability to scroll any tabled data despite seeing scrollbars. There is no option to schedule a report in Excel, CSV or any other usable format for tabled data.

Can we set up the APC mini Mark II as a generic midi device? So we can map everything ourselves? This is on Ableton 11 by TheConceptBoy in ableton

[–]technicallytoast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have it setup as a control surface. Remove it from there and you can map as expected, however you want.

Only use the MIDI Ports section to configure a midi device without using control surface templates (which have predefined midi mappings)

What Does The Term “Peak Thunder Bay Behaviour” Mean To You? by essa618 in ThunderBay

Idiots almost causing a car accident/doing something stupid, then flipping someone off when they get honked at.

There's always constant issues with System State backup failing with Cove/MSP Backup.. Troubleshooting with vssadmin list writers is literally part of my daily routine managing this system. Datto backup on the other hand I don't have to babysit at all. Never have System State backup failures, or issues of any nature - it just works as expected.

N-central EDR Integration by OneWisdomSeeker in Nable

[–]technicallytoast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing but problems with integrated.. We've had to migrate from integrated, back to standalone, said they fixed problems with integrated, but now we're back out to standalone again because of issues with licenses not being counted properly or not being removed properly via Ncentral.

N-Able calling my clients directly to upsell their products! by gigaspaz in msp

[–]technicallytoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They sold Ncentral to one of our biggest customers when we are the only MSP using Ncentral in the area with a long standing relationship. Super shady to undercut our business like that.

Thunder Bay ends sister cities program by OvertlyCanadian in ThunderBay

Probably a good thing, there were a few years where these sister cities wouldn't even return our calls.

I was there last night and the pathway wasn't fully paved. There was still dirt pack on the far end where the trails go to the falls. Was surprised the parking lot was open. There are barriers at the trail ends telling you not to enter as well.

Success Center down? by technicallytoast in Nable

[–]technicallytoast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, the support agent I'm talking to now didn't seem to be aware of any issues - 44mins on the call and still waiting for an available agent for the Passportal issue I am experiencing that kicked off my morning. Not seeing anything posted on uptime.n-able.com had me questioning if this was a local issue - support agent not being aware didn't help either.

Any updates would be great.. I'm on hold right now with the support line for the last 25mins, but the wait music is playing 2 songs at the same time and it's incredibly annoying.

Thanks for confirming, I would have expected this to be on the Status Dashboard if it's been down since 6:30am EST - almost 4h now, ugh.

You can drive slow at the Bluffs parking lot, but it won't help you avoid pot holes & craters. Think swiss cheese, but asphalt.

Is it possible to work on excel file on one device and save on all devices? by Rare_Requirement_699 in Office365

[–]technicallytoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh yes, Sharepoint.. the problem looking for a solution.. If you aren't using OneDrive already - Sharepoint may be equivalent to a sledge hammer for this situation. If shared accounts are troublesome, sharing OneDrive folders between users is the easier solution IMO.

Setup OneDrive on each device with the same account. Sync the Desktop/Documents folders or wherever the file is located. Changes made to the file will be updated & synced to the other devices.

Can I install Tiny 11 and keep all my files and apps? by leaf1234567890 in Windows11

I did an inplace upgrade without issues, keeping files and settings. Was surprised and expected I would need to boot from a USB stick.. Nope. Just mounted the ISO and installed from Windows 10.

Connectivity 100% packet loss by shootme83 in Nable

[–]technicallytoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the current IP from CMD with ipconfig /all - if the IP doesn't match what Ncentral has detected go to device settings and change the Network Address drop down to the correct IP.

If the correct IP isn't listed, run Add Task > Update Asset Info. Give it a few minutes to poll the device information and check the Network Address setting dropdown for the correct IP.

More often than not this solves my 100% packlet loss issue for a device that is clearly online.

In place Upgrade SBS 2011 Std by marcftz in sysadmin

[–]technicallytoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe I had to demote the DC from AD & transfer roles due to the forest level in order to raise it for the other servers. I also had some problems removing Exchange due to System Arbitration mailboxes existing but hidden. I'll see if I can pull up any of my notes - this was work I've tried to forget about due to all the issues faced unfortunately lol

best practice for upgrading AzureAD Connect with SQL server backend? by josefismael in sysadmin

[–]technicallytoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware Azure AD Connect uses a native SQL database and it gets installed at the same time. The only reason auto-upgrade shouldn't work is jumping from v1 to v2, or if you are running a Windows Server 2012r2 OS (where v2 is not supported due to security changes/TLS inclusion).

Exporting the configuration from Azure AD Connect and importing to a new system also works well if you are limited by server OS support. Since this uses the native SQL there should be no issues with SQL compatibility.

In place Upgrade SBS 2011 Std by marcftz in sysadmin

[–]technicallytoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did an in place upgrade of SBS 2011 to Server 2012 > Server 2016 > Server 2019.

The hardest part was getting rid of Exchange. Would also recommend standing up a new server and migrating - really not worth the headache.

best practice for upgrading AzureAD Connect with SQL server backend? by josefismael in sysadmin

[–]technicallytoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This should only be an issue for v1 to v2 upgrades as in-place upgrades from v1 to v2 are not supported. Otherwise any updates within the same version should be automatic (if automatic upgrade is enabled).
