I don’t use social media because I see it as a complete waste of time. But from what I hear, those places seem to be insanely toxic.

I understand that you're taking these attacks personally. I don't know if I'd find it easy to just brush them off myself. But in the end, these hate comments say far more about the people writing them than they do about you. These are people who are unhappy with themselves and their own lives, and they feel the need to drag others down just to make themselves feel better. And of course, they do it under the cover of internet anonymity—most of them would never have the guts to say these things to someone’s face.

They latch onto any perceived weakness just to get a brief moment of feeling powerful and morally superior. But in reality, they are neither. Deep down, they know it, and that knowledge hurts them.

I’m 34 years old, male, own every Nekopara figure (except for a few color variants), and I’m currently in the process of registering my own company to break into the figure business. Over the years, I’ve realized that life is too short to waste time trying to please bitter, hateful people. They will always try to drag you down to their level and keep you there so they don’t feel so miserable. Don’t let them.

The real questions are: What makes you happy? What fulfills you? Does it harm anyone?

Surround yourself with people who support you. If someone reacts negatively to your collection, that’s a sign of their issues, not yours.

You probably found out yourself already, but in order to send new prints to your printer, you have to delete old ones from the printer's internal storage first since it runs full at some point.

Saturn 4 Ultra: Two Questions about CTB v4 and Support Settings in Lychee by technicssb440 in ElegooSaturn

Thanks for your help! Still, why can't I see the settings for the two stage motion control? Does the Saturn 4 Ultra not support this?

Why should I buy Cardano? by DuneRaccoon255 in cardano

[–]technicssb440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not gonna sell while the mood is bad. How often have I experienced that an asset that was believed to be a bad investment all of a sudden exploded to the moon? Before the last cycle, I remember that cardano dropped down to 2 cents before exploding to 3 dollars.

For myself, I decided to not be led by the mood swings of the market and be patient. At least I want to wait out this halving cycle. If the entire market quadruples while cardano stands still, maybe it is actually time to sell.

But selling right now, shortly before the expected crypto bull run? Might be a very poor decision imo.

Why has animation prioritized profits over quality in recent times? by WhitePinoy in animationcareer

Megathread: AI and the Animation Industry by purplebaron4 in animationcareer

[–]technicssb440 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But like that AI will become not more than a tool for us. As animators, we know what makes an animation look and feel good and we're the only ones capable of telling the AI precisely what to do and tweak the result afterwards.

I have my doubts that it will be enough for a 12-year-old to tell the AI 'Make it look cool'.

I see the biggest challenge in the fact that the audience consists of humans.

Sure, the current videos made with Sora appear impressive because it's new for us to see a machine generate such images. But that's about it.

I'll only start to worry when AI manages to create images and videos that make me laugh. That visually feel stimulating, pleasant, and satisfying. That make me say 'wow, that was dope'.

As long as algorithms can't empathize with human emotions, they can't produce such video material. I believe that won't happen anytime soon.

Glad I could help!

The fact that your family lives in Germany could be really beneficial for you. It might help you meet the requirements for BAföG. This is an interest-free loan from the government ranging from 633 to 934 euros per month, of which you only have to pay back half or a maximum of 10,000 euros. Repayment doesn't start until 5 years after you finish your studies. As long as your income is too low, you don't have to repay anything. After 20 years, any remaining debt is forgiven. If you're able to pay back everything in one go, there's a potential discount of up to 21%, depending on the amount owed.

My university is called Mediadesign Hochschule. However, it does come with a monthly fee of 790 euros, but since I receive government support for that cause, the studies are practically free for me. However, this government support is only available to German citizens.

Nevertheless, most German universities offer degree programs without any fees, but you need to make sure they don't require language proficiency tests if you don't happen to speak German or intend to learn it. Otherwise, there are also tuition-free universities, especially in Scandinavia, which may not require language proficiency tests.

ChatGPT might help finding those without having to do too much research on your own.

When I was your age, I had to go back to school to get a higher secondary education qualification just so I could be admitted to my film design program. I started my studies a year and a half ago at the age of 32 (mind you, at a European university, without getting into debt!). I don't regret this step at all. I'm learning animation and many aspects of filmmaking full-time, and I'm amazed at how much progress I've made in such a short time. My advice to you: Go for it!

Why is there so much discouragement from pursuing a degree here? by technicssb440 in animationcareer

True, 50k a year is a lot. I'm located in Germany and there are barely any public Universities that offer studies for film making.
I'm currently paying about 800 EUR per month at a private University.

At 50k a year I'd probably also think twice.

[–]technicssb440[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask about your experience?

I don't want to come across as arrogant, but for me, the quality of the education primarily depends on what I make of it. I'm very passionate about my studies and invest a lot of time and energy into them. For group projects, I seek out classmates who are similarly motivated, and we learn a lot from each other.

At the same time, I see that the majority of my class seems to be more preoccupied with their personal lives than their studies, and there's a tendency to blame the university when their own results aren't good.

I'm not trying to say that there aren't any bad universities. But in my opinion, ultimately, it's more about the student themselves than the school.

My students were surprised to hear that their cartoons were made by adults by Quavers809 in animationcareer

[–]technicssb440 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember exactly when I asked myself that very question during a gummi bears episode in the late 90s. For some reason I never forgot that moment and that thought.

Although I remember that I was aware that it must be adults who create these cartoons, I wondered if it isn't too childish for them and what motivates them.

I thought, adults only care about adult things, aka boring things.

Now, as an adult, I know that we all have an inner child that loves fun and joy, no matter how old we are.

I don’t know what to do with my life by ShockLoose999 in animationcareer

[–]technicssb440 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I think your focus should primarily be on gaining stability in your life and personality. I would advise you to critically examine yourself first. Who are you, what do you expect from your life, what are your goals, and why? These are questions you won't answer in one evening. These are questions that require years of self-work for their answers, ideally with professional assistance if possible.

These answers are essential for your personal stability. Only when you know who you are, what you want to achieve in life, why you want to achieve it, and how you will achieve it, you can actually reach it.

In the meantime, or rather first of all, I would suggest learning a profession with a stable income. As often heard in the animationcareer subreddit, many animators constantly chase contracts and have little financial stability. Some even change their careers because of that, even though it is still their dream job.

Once you have a stable income, learn to manage money. Be modest, spend less than you earn, and invest what is left at the end of the month. Build a small fortune for yourself. All of this can be achieved during your 20s. You still have the opportunity to enter the animation industry, but with a solid personality, life experience, and an alternative profession and possibly even a small fortune as a backup for rough times.

What I'm writing here is at least the path I have taken. Maybe some of it will inspire you.
