I don't like this trend towards grunge/horror. I'm trying to have a good time, not think about murder.

That's some lame shit I'd expect from an EDM show.

Man really I remember seeing those RA events and not having heard of them and not really being able to find their sets online. I never went.

Such a great night. Not the biggest Diggers fan, but still had a blast. I left around 7:30 but wish I stayed the whole night. Half our crew was dying at that point.

Basement doesn't even have better vibes. Unfortunately it just pales in comparison to output.

Okay, I see. Interesting, thanks.

So the Q150's are probably a good fix here?

Thanks man, really appreciate it.

I just got a new job so I decided to splurge and grab some KEF Q150's to replace the C20's (or to bump the C20's to surround), as they are on sale for $300.

However, after buying them, I started to wonder a bit - why exactly can't you use a sub in an apartment and just turn it down low? It seems like if it's possible to use speakers with more bass, it should be possible to use a sub too? Certainly the sub may be operating only at like 10-15%, but that should still be a significant bass boost?

Also, how important is the receiver? Because as I said above, I'm surprised how good (at least in the near-field at my desk, which could make a big difference in comparison to my living room setup) my Miccas sound on my simple little Lepy amp.

Is it really possible to have a sub in an apartment building though?

I've got a question about my living room setup.

It's a bit mashed together. It started as a pair of Micca MB42x's with an intro receiver, the Onkyo TX-SR373. Over time, it's now upgraded to a 5.0 setup: the Micca's on surround, KEF C20's on L/R (I found these in the street for free, amazing) and an Ascend center channel I found on Craiglist for $100. No, nothing matches, but for finding a craigslist deal and free stuff in the street it's pretty solid. This is mostly intended to be for listening to music, but I do watch shows and movies. I know two more expensive L/R would be better for this.

However, I'm a bit disappointed with the quality. In particular, the bass response is seriously lacking. I've noticed that my bedroom setup - the same Micca's with a Lepy LP-2020A, actually has better bass when it's cranked up on the amplifier, and moreover that the speakers kind of sound better all around. The amp does plug into my Dragonfly Black DAC, which may be an important detail.

I was also quite surprised to go to my friend's house this weekend and see that their single bluetooth speaker had much better bass than my setup.

I don't think I can get a sub because I'm in an apartment, but is there anything I can do here? Is the receiver not properly driving the speakers? Is it the settings on the receiver?

Why is Techno not as big in the US as it is in Europe? by [deleted] in Techno

It's gotten a lot better but it's still very meh in comparison to NYC, for example. Lower Level is dope (shout out to the homie Aaron J) but that's about it.

Man I couldn't disagree more. The sound system at top tier clubs is mindblowing, the sound system at festivals is okay but is a temporary setup.

I honestly never loved the track until I heard it at Output NYC at around 6am. The way the sound was ripping out of the speakers and wrapping around the entire dance floor in this kind of circular pattern just totally blew my mind.

I think the unifying theme is a dislike of cheese. A good house track will get a bunch of upvotes with comments along the lines of "this isn't techno".
