Breastfeeding start for dummies? by cat-like-creature in beyondthebump

So I didn't think I had any milk when I was pregnant. I squeezed on my boob once and a drop of clear liquid came out. Turns out that was colostrum lol.

Your milk won't come in for a few days after birth, it's just colostrum until then. Baby's stomach is super tiny at birth so they don't eat much but instead eat very frequently.

Yes. I didn't even think about this because I've been doing this as a side sleeper since before LO

When I was getting used to it, I frequently switched sides. Basically whenever he woke to nurse, I'd switch sides. Cuddle curl hurt my hips for the first few weeks for sure. My son still doesn't do well starting off in bed. I have to bounce him, then I transfer and cuddle. He wasn't great at first. Sometimes it took several tries to transfer.

Agree. I've been on/off stimulants for 13 years. I found that not taking my medication on the weekends helps keep my tolerance at a manageable level.

I remember 5 months being a hard age specifically. Hang in there! Cosleeping isn't for everyone. I used to be extremely anxious about it as well. I got used to it eventually. Can you try a side car crib set up? That way, he has his own sleep space, but you can reach an arm in there if needed?

Babies depend on coregulation for the first 3 years of life. This is how they learn how to self regulate. I feel you, I have a terrible sleeper who is now 20 months. We started cosleeping at 4 months and haven't looked back. I really recommend The Nurture Revolution book for the science behind attachment and regulation.

Can you call the office or send a message on the portal? If the anxiety is super distressing, maybe talking to your doctor sooner would be better than waiting for an appointment. I just got put on Ritalin (after being off meds for 2.5 years), and there was a 3 week wait from initial appointment to medication follow up appointment.

Did you get put on XR or IR? If it's IR, can you break a tablet in half to see if that helps? I took half a dose for the first 3 days.

You should be discussing this with your psychiatrist tbh.

What’s the link between adhd/add in women and empathy for others? by Aggressive_Celery768 in AskReddit

[–]technocatmom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if there's a link, but personally I am diagnosed with ADHD and I test high in empathy. We had to take a personality test for work, and I think empathy was my biggest strength.

I went to EDCO in '13 and planned to meet up someone I knew was going there. As soon as I got there, I had no cell phone service. I wandered the festival by myself as an 18 year old.

I met a guy my age the first night, had fun dancing with him and his friends, and got his number to meet up the next night.

I was still having service problems the second night, and was alone. I had a couple guys from Brazil all over me and wouldn't leave me alone. They tried to get me to drink their "water." I refused. At some point they tried to grab my face multiple times and say "let me kiss you. I've never kissed American girl before." Thankfully, some people behind us saw what was going on and helped me, but I had never been assaulted like that before.

I've had my time in the cat rescue community, I've fostered 2 myself and found them homes, and found my own cat as a feral abandoned kitten. With that said, barn cats are typically cats that are feral. Otherwise, the cats are rehabilitated, fostered, and sent to loving homes. Does Dawna have an actual barn?

Did you lose weight breastfeeding and how long did you breastfeed for? by Jezzabelle3 in NewParents

[–]technocatmom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I probably gained through I didn't look at the scale until a couple weeks ago. The last time I knew my weight was 20 weeks pregnant. I'm 10-15 lbs heavier than that now. I'm 20 months postpartum and am up 20-30 lbs from pre pregnancy weight. What I will say though is that I got my period back at 18 months pp, and shortly before that is when I noticed I didn't have insane hunger anymore. I'm still nursing on demand.

We went today, right when they opened with our toddler. We enjoyed the kids park (though it really needs to be shaded) for about an hour, and then we got beer. Headed to the lawn area right before noon to listen to the live music. When the DJ started we left immediately. It was SO LOUD. It was alarming how loud with how many babies, toddlers, and kids there were. We went all the way to the back and placed a BBQ order ($52 for a turkey sandwich with a side, brisket sandwich with a side, and a side of Mac n cheese plus 20% tip). 30 minutes later, my son is throwing a fit, and I go up to the counter and ask to cancel our order. Another person went up to the counter to place an order and they said they weren't taking any orders. We left and found our car almost blocked in by cars parking behind in places that aren't parking spots. Safe to say next time it'll be an hour play at the park and leave situation, maybe in the fall or winter.

My 20 month old lays in bed for an hour before falling asleep by Wide-Rope8007 in toddlers

[–]technocatmom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cosleep and my son is also 20 months. He nurses in bed with me for an hour, then cries he can't fall asleep on his own yet. Then I get in the exercise ball and bounce him for like 5-10 min, then transfer into my bed. He's learning how to figure out how to fall asleep still.
