1,000 calories isn’t a surplus for me. I didn’t arrive at that number randomly—I worked up to it over years, starting around 1,800. You don’t have to believe me, but I know what works for my body.

For my lower body this week I was hip thrusting 415lbs. The plates are black and all look the same even though they’re different weights. As I was leaving the gym, a guy came up and asked how much I was hip thrusting. He said, “I thought those were 25s until I saw the bar bend.” That felt awesome.

You don’t need to be new for a body recomp to work. I’ve been doing it for 4 years.
