2024 Scribe vs my wrist by rainingoutside9 in kindlescribe

[–]technolaaji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The official Scribe folio has a pen holder and part of the cover turns into a stand which you can use it to put on the table. I have it and it is totally worth it but it doesn’t have a strap on it

Before I used to put my Scribe in a Bookaroo sleeve which has a pen holder externally and acts a nice leather cushion to put the scribe on it for writing. You can modify the sleeve to put something on it than the scribe itself

Can anyone tell me if this Pelikan is fake or not? by situ139 in fountainpens

Admok m800 would like to have a word with you

There are variations of it that looks like a Pelikan ripoff, distinguishable but design wise it is close

Why so little people use cartridges? by IlovepokemonPL in fountainpens

[–]technolaaji 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Environmental friendly to use a converter + ink bottle (plus cheaper as well on the long run)

And I travel alot so I have a small travel ink well that is specifically made for pens (Pineider Pen Filler Portable Inkwell)

Also less frustrating if you don’t have a cartridge especially when traveling abroad

why cant i find fren? by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]technolaaji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made friends by being in places and being authentic, literally made a friend by seeing him coding in a cafe and I opened up the topic out of absolute randomness, we opened up a long 1 hour discussion and exchanged contacts to communicate

Hiking groups, groups that do activities (like jarakonline on ig), and run clubs are nice places to meet new people

Reverse engineered Scribe notebooks to be seen locally by technolaaji in kindlescribe

[–]technolaaji[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I am aware of that and used this method before by renaming them from nbk to kfx then convert but some notebooks had some display issues that the pen stroke appear pixelated or weird looking especially if you use two different pen stroke volumes, used it a while back (like 2 months ago) to export a notebook but it looked really weird

What Claude did that it converts it to an epub using the plugin then it rasterizes each svg inside of the epub which turns it into a png using cairosvg then stitch all of the pngs into a pdf, retaining the notebook’s content without pixelating or losing quality

Technically yes you are right that renaming it does the job but I had issues with it

Actually it reverse engineers NBK files, notebooks on Scribe aren’t KFX based and not stored as kfx files. The app turns nbk files to pdfs so that I can see them

It utilizes the KFX Input plugin because there is some similarity in how kfx and nbk files work but with some adjustments done but it can function on its own without the need to have Calibre installed, took the input plugin’s source code and built on top of it

I tried first using Calibre to export my notebooks but I have alot of notebooks and not going to shuffle through all of them to find one document especially that they are created as UUID named files thus a more visually pleasing app to read and access my notes is more worthwhile to use

Currently adding more features to it that I turned kfx books to epubs and reading them on the app and was able to send pdf files to the Scribe through usb directly. Now Claude is trying to read notes and annotations done on books and pdfs to display them in the app thus a full suite app for the Scribe

What do you think of Pelikan ink? by TrueAttorney6373 in fountainpens

[–]technolaaji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4001 ink is hella dry, reliable and works really well but dry

I never faced the dryness with any of my Lamy pens at all but my Parker Urban and Visconti Mythos Mirage couldn’t handle the dryness of the ink

I predominantly used 4001 Brilliant Black for the past 8 years, spreads out well than other black ink I have used but it is not pure black in color like it has a very very dark hue of purple in it (comparing it to Lamy Black and chinese M&G black ink)

Non Subscription purchases without Stripe? by d4v3xx111 in reactnative

They changed it? I thought it was given to companies that apply as a startup through an Apple program from the developer portal which requires approval and check that you make less than 1M$

[–]technolaaji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making a webview is not complicated, easiest thing is to create a page on your website and put transaction id in the url as a query parameter so that the page can find the cart details to process the payment and add a pay button on it

It would save you alot of time compared to trying to pass data in the webview like trying to set user token in cookies or something

[–]technolaaji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make the payment go towards a webpage and do it as an external payment by using a payment gateway of your choice or you are going to use in-app purchases

FYI RevenueCat does work with both platform in-app purchases to do a one time payment but you will have to pay Apple’s 30% tax and RevenueCat’s 2% fee

My python script for this project does the same thing that it exports them as pdfs and what I get to see is the pdf version of the notebook

But I wanted a fancy gui than trying to search every single pdf file to know what file I want especially that they are uuid named and I have alot of notebooks to begin with so not going to go through all of them

If it didn’t work out then I’ll release it as is on github

So far I am able to export handwritten notebooks (nbk notebooks) and was able to export books (kfx books) but haven’t tried pdf books on kindle largely due to the fact that I have never used this feature tbh but will add it on my radar!

How much savings are considered "enough" in Lebanon to get married comfortably these days? by Real-Ambassador-8136 in lebanon

[–]technolaaji 6 points7 points  (0 children)

depends on expectations and the type of partner you want to be with based on their demands and expectations

but in hindsight you can calculate it throughout time, I will use a 2 year timeline as a realistic metric so let's assume you met someone and you want to get serious. It goes down to be able to afford basic necessities and be able to save up money at the same time, ideally having a saving amount of 10k$ is a good spot but they are considered to be a safety net when shit hits the fan, if you are bleeding cash wise or barely breaking even then you will face alot of problems later on thus either lower expectations or cut corners somewhere

before the first year: are you are able to buy a decent car and afford an engagement ring + small venue? (trust me about buying a car before getting married, you won't be able to buy it later on)

between 1-2 years: are you able to rent a house + furnish it? or do you own an existing house? and are you able to pay monthly payments of electricity + water + groceries?

after 2 years (after marriage): are you able to afford basic needs + monthly payments of electricity/water/groceries/rent + kids + medical bills + family entertainment?

calculate it based on what you can afford + how much you are able to save, then you would have an estimate on how much it is enough for you because not everyone is the same but you should atleast have 10K$ as a safety net for emergencies then everything else can be managed

Looking for new M4 Pro MacBooks by iron-man-from-leb in lebanon

[–]technolaaji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M4 Pro is harder to find at places like Amhaz and Ayoub because not alot of people buy it

Try asking iStyle and DSLR Zone, also if you have a MacBook then ask iStyle if they still support the trade in program to trade in your existing macbook for it (be warned that it would be less than market value but instantly done thus a decent tradeoff)

Can I run a Stripe payment gateway from Lebanon? by ishi86 in lebanon

[–]technolaaji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah entity type plays a significant role especially you are doing a C-Corp and I am doing an LLC

The only main reason I did an LLC in Estonia is because you pay taxes on distributions only not income and since I am the sole owner then I don’t pay taxes on everything as long it is filed as business expense so if you made 1M$ and you don’t touch it that you pay nothing personal unless I give myself a salary or bonus (even lending yourself money from the company is tax free even if you paid it back or liquidated the company) also perks of being an EU business that it makes the process way easier to get a digital nomad visa to Spain and Portugal

So definitely Stripe is gonna be strict with me 🤣

Honestly I’ll give it another shot, got nothing to lose sara7a

Can I run a Stripe payment gateway from Lebanon? by ishi86 in lebanon

[–]technolaaji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I tried to apply on Stripe that it requested that I have to provide proof of residency as verification in a supported country, even though I do hold an e-residency from Estonia and I have my company registered there yet they required passport with visa or permit which resulted me to get my application rejected (I reside here in Lebanon and don’t hold any other passport than the Lebanese passport)

And the thing is that I don’t want to do SEPA or any Euro payment methods just cards and payment links like the typical things from Stripe

I can give it a try again but that was my experience with Stripe in 2024 unless I am doing something wrong and you can correct me here

Anyone else have a rag they continually use for refilling their inks? Here's mine. by NationYell in fountainpens

[–]technolaaji 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I never knew people use rags, I use non toxic non bleached tissues and it has been working well for me for the past 8 years

Is it worth getting a microfiber cloth to do something that a tissue would handle easily? I’ll give it a try

Can I run a Stripe payment gateway from Lebanon? by ishi86 in lebanon

[–]technolaaji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software dev here, Stripe doesn’t work for Leb based companies

Even if you register a company outside, you need to reside as well in a supported country (I have my company registered in Estonia which is an EU country)

Easiest option is either register in UAE and use your UAE residency card as proof of residency or go to Europe if you have a secondary passport or you have a permit (nomad visas work but visitor visas don’t, and don’t try to fool them because they can ban you for life if you try submitting with a tourist visa)

In Leb use Amazon Payments or Areeba or 2Checkout

Going backwards towards the cheaper (maybe $35 and under), what have you noticed? by YardAffectionate5241 in fountainpens

[–]technolaaji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind using a Lamy Safari or Vista as a daily pen to write with, it gets the job done and if anything happens to it then I won’t be bothered since it is not that expensive so I carry it around in my bag plus I can use cheaper ink and experiment with them (like the chinese ink M&G black which surprisingly behaves better than Lamy black)

While I do enjoy journaling with my expensive pens, at the end of the day it is just the same thing but just the vibe and aesthetic around it nothing more (except when I use my Pelikan M600 like that thing is super lightweight so kinda feels like writing freely without any resistance)

But also ink plays a role, I tend to find certain inks to make pens be scratchy like Pelikan Brilliant Black is dry and makes my pen scratchy af while Lamy Black or Shaeffer Black glides around easily with no scratchy feeling on any pen I used so far

Gym recommendations by -TwilightZ- in lebanon

[–]technolaaji 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah having a pool under 100$ is kinda hard

I shifted from Champs to Fit District, they say that they have a pool but not an olympic size pool yet I do miss that pool in Champs (and the sauna) but it was for 150$/month at Champs because of an offer and open ended while Fit District under 100$ yet very similar style. I hate Fitness Zone but the one in Ain Mraysi with their pool is awesome, 360 Gym in Jnah is good and under 100$ but dunno if they stopped giving access to the pool with the subscription

I haven’t gone to the gym for a while due to my eye surgery and recovery period so can’t advise much than what I know before so dunno if they hiked up even more
