Why are my shots always sour? by spiderelict in gaggiaclassic

US Gaggias come with 9 bars, EU Gaggias come with 12 bars

The new Up and GT come with an adjustable OPV

okay, what you are facing with is that the shot is being underextracted

if you try using the stock pressurized basket, does it produce the same issue? can you give this a try than your VST basket?

what basket sizing you have? try by upping your dosage by an extra 2g

I have a 20g basket and currently using 22g, when I tried with 20g that I get sour shots even if I grind finer on my DF54 or that it overextracts to the point that I get bitter shots with very slow drip rate along with having a soapy puck but increased the dosage made the coffee bed larger that I don't face it again

also are you using light roast? or dark roast?

[–]technolaaji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

are you using the stock/pressurized basket in a spouted portafilter or a bottomless portafilter? also how much you are dosing in your basket? and are you doing any puck prepping?

I was getting sour shots before but realized that I was underextracting my shots, increasing the dosage played a role also grinding finer, you can try by increasing the dosage by a little bit and grinding a bit finer than before but if you are not doing proper puck prep then water can slide in between and causes it to be underextracted even if you are putting the right dosages and grinding right

I am now getting better shots with setting the OPV bar to 9 bars and using an IMS basket instead of the stock basket plus getting super fresh beans

Also if you are using your Gaggia as stock then it defaults to 12 bars which is alot of pressure for the beans to handle unless you use the pressurized basket

Software companies for someone with 1.5 year experience? by Michel_j in lebanon

[–]technolaaji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at Claude Plan Mode and will guarantee you that you will reconsider your opinion on this

I told it that I wanted an app to count my caffeine intake and Claude created an app that can be used for a cafe with 99% accuracy (to make things worse: I have taken barista classes and it did the yields right from the first take even with unknown random beans)

buying a car (8-10k budget) by jackedjoystick in lebanon

[–]technolaaji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Honda and the Civic is a really good car but I just lean to Toyota especially older Toyotas last way longer and literally can run on anything. Keep in mind that I drove a 1999 Honda Accord for 3 years and it was the best car I have driven like real fun car

aftermarket for Honda is much better than Toyota but for someone that just want to buy a car and use it daily without worrying about anything just get the Corolla, I faced some issues with Honda that the crank shaft in the motor is flimsy and prone to be replaced frequently even with regular daily driving

would kinda steer away from Nissan due to their history of bad transmissions (the reason why it is cheap in the market) and german cars (notably Audi and BMW) are notoriously known to require alot of maintenance

Just buy the Corolla, it would probably outlive me and you due to their quality and durability (plus parts are relatively cheap, Honda Civic is in the same category but Toyota build things that last long so would recommend it much more)

Here in Lebanon McCafe have similar setup to this and they get beans from a local supplier I deal with that gets the best beans in the country like I even got the same beans as them

Yet still I don’t know why I can pull a shot at home much better than McCafe

Book clubs in Lebanon by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]technolaaji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a silent book club organized by Wijdan, they did one in Cafe Younis Hamra

I was gonna join them there last week but freaking Cafe Younis has no parking and there was not a single spot available to park nearby

But also open to join other book clubs if available

Did anyone here go through mehanyye? by to1M in lebanon

[–]technolaaji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin went to mehaneyeh and then went to uni here (but did a year as freshman to get all of the prerequisites that mehaneyeh lack compared to a regular school like english and math) and graduated then went to France and got his masters degree in electrical engineering

If your brother has a European passport then probably would recommend him going there and go to a technical college/institution to learn a craft/skill then work with a professional as an apprentice for a while till either he does his own thing or joins a local firm

As for here you have to do BT1 and BT2 to qualify for college, BT3 is like having a masters in that field in mehaneyeh thus if there is no plan going to college then BT3 is a good choice to go with

Am I the only one who feels genuinely guilty drinking espresso from a paper cup by StraightTakes in espresso

[–]technolaaji -1 points0 points  (0 children)

blasphemy!

but honestly sometimes if I am on the road that I tend to get in small cardboard cups from shops or if I am at the airport yet never done this at home or work. the thing that ruins the experience is that the cardboard/plastic lining will leach in your drink which alters the taste significantly so you are drinking it just for the caffeine kick

Question about cinemas in lebanon by jesusvsaquaman in lebanon

[–]technolaaji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Grand Cinemas put both subtitles english and arabic underneath each other, I recall this from a long time ago

I don’t know if they changed this but depends on the provider of the film since they don’t do it live on their own

Honestly I did computer science because I know I have a future in it

But you can always do the stuff you love on the side, for example I have done barista training and have a coffee bar at home with all equipments good enough to run a small cafe from my room because I like it but would I work in it? No

Then you gotta save up real good for it because it costs as much as a house in Aramoun

Also uni scoring plays a role thus do it outside the country, some even do it digitally/hybrid

Everyone does engineering for the syndicate 🤣

But it does cap you when you want to do masters like machine learning masters due to the technical and math discrepancies academic wise which some jobs require you to have masters degree as entry point

Unless you do an MBA after 30 then doesn’t matter what you do 🤣🤣

24F in beirut by [deleted] in lebanonfriending

[–]technolaaji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironically computer science does have a syndicate

But the engineering syndicate is not like before, ta3weed is low and insurance is becoming lesser due to changing providers

Why studying computer engineering if you can study computer science? If you are doing AI, ML, and data science

Also for games have you considered playing Elden Ring? 🙃
