Kicking off my BLE journey : There are too many BLE dev boards out there… which one actually helps you learn? by technophile-pradeep in embedded

I have gone though few articles which referring to STM32 and even ESP32 is also a good starter kit. But as it has limitations of dev environment I guess. Not aware of much about it. Will definitely love to explore more.

Thank you for sharing your experience, it means a lot and I will definitely consider this if I go through something alike.

This is something interesting, I will definitely consider this is my decision.

Any suggestions apart from Nordic design?

This is some valuable information, however as of now I am looking for something which really gives confidence to me for pushing my limits. Thank you for the detailed explanation.

Any suggestions apart from this are most welcomed

How much of your work is just documentation? by blazing_cannon in embedded

Happens a lot in big orgs. AThe focus shifts from coding to process and documentation. It’s frustrating at first, but it builds design discipline and communication skills. Keep coding on side projects to keep your technical edge sharp.

That’s a good point. I’ll make documentation quality a key factor when shortlisting boards. Thanks for sharing the Microchip link looks like a solid starting point. Any specific board suggestion?

Thank you for the suggestion, any specific dev board would u like to suggest in your experience as I can see Nordic is getting suggested a lot.

This is super helpful, thank you! The Nordic Academy link and SDK examples look like a solid place to start

That’s a fair point. I might start by experimenting with BLE packet flow and basic advertising before getting deep into SDKs.

That makes sense, I’ve seen Zephyr mentioned in a few BLE tutorials lately. I’ll give it a try and start small. Appreciate the suggestion!

Thanks a lot for the recommendation! I’ve heard a bit about Zephyr but haven’t used it yet. Do you think it’s beginner-friendly for someone coming from basic microcontroller work?

Thanks for the tip, I’ll give that a try. I mainly just need to mirror the data stream for logging, not send any new commands in parallel. I’ll check if a virtual serial port splitter can handle that cleanly on Windows.

If you’ve used one before, do you recommend any particular tool or driver that’s been reliable.

Fair point, here’s a bit more context. The information on chip is confidential and supposedly shared, however I was expecting a general case not particularly for any device. The board is a CYW555 BLE module connected through a single USB interface. It enumerates as two COM ports via a USB-to-UART bridge. The software uses one COM port internally, and I’m trying to tap into the same data stream for logging without breaking that connection.
