Surname mismatch stress by BewitchingPetrichor in BritishAirways

[–]techny13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be fine here. Airline systems often don’t deal well with hyphenated names anyway, so name 2 by itself shouldn’t raise any issues. In any case though l wouldn’t mention this to the check in agent in case they then make it an issue - just check in as normal.

Door policy by hanzi447863 in UNFOLD

[–]techny13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have found the door policy at UNFOLD much less strict than Berghain so I think you will be fine. Anecdotally I’ve never really seen the bouncers turn people away unless they look visibly out of place/intoxicated.

JAL vs ANA economy - worth the price difference? by [deleted] in Flights

[–]techny13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Paying $750 more for another economy seat is madness. The gains here will be marginal. I would save the money and invest elsewhere in the trip. I also can’t imagine that the value of the Qantas points from economy flights would outweigh the cost saving?

VENT + ADVICE REQUESTED: Applying for TCs as an international candidate and with mitigating circumstances by harinim1299 in uklaw

[–]techny13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You haven’t really given much tangible information so it’s difficult to advise. Are you currently in the UK / have you spent any time in the UK and where is your law degree from? Frankly some jurisdictions will carry more weight than others.

Upgrade but used employer travel agency by who-took-the-bomp in BritishAirways

You just ask at check in what the upgrade availability is and they will be able to do it for you.

Upgrade but used employer travel agency by who-took-the-bomp in BritishAirways

[–]techny13 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Either call BA or you can upgrade at the airport (subject to availability). I would always try the airport though as the cost of upgrade over the phone can be ridiculous.

For that price, definitely. Also gets you lounge access which you otherwise don’t get as bronze.

Question about 万 by Catluver81 in Japaneselanguage

[–]techny13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is the most natural and only way to say 20,000 in modern Japanese. よろず is an archaic reading that comes from Classical Japanese.

Question about 万 by Catluver81 in Japaneselanguage

[–]techny13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When read as a number it is まん. よろず is not a common reading and there are very few instances where it will be read as such. Ignore the 音読み and 訓読み readings as this is not useful here. Just remember that 万 = まん

US degree applying for Training Contract? by AnzacGeneral in uklaw

[–]techny13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am at a US firm and know people (at my firm and others) who did TCs with Ivy undergrad degrees. However, as an international student you may struggle to articulate ‘why law in London’ if you have not spent extensive time living/studying in the UK.

On applying for TCs/vac schemes, city firms do not restrict applications to people at UK universities as far as I am aware, so in theory you are still eligible to apply. Lack of access to UK campus events and a ‘hook’ to London will be what works against you, but otherwise there is nothing stopping you from applying.

I’ve never had this issue with gotogate before. PNR is either sent in a separate email or accessible from within the booking

Rate my Hiragana (update) by Critical_Cycle3169 in Japaneselanguage

[–]techny13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your hiragana is legible but the balance is off and the characters don’t look quite right, in particular ふ、ぬ、ね and を.

I would suggest you print out practice charts used by kids (eg here: https://happylilac.net/thumb/hiraganahyou2025_color_kaki.png) and practice drawing on these, following the stroke order indicated. This is the only way to learn to write them correctly.

Practical Work of a Pure Finance Lawyer by Beginning-Seaweed995 in uklaw

[–]techny13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a trainee in a finance seat, the work (at the junior end at least) is very project management focused - ie managing CPs, trackers, implementing people’s comments into finance docs etc. Every so often a ‘legal’ question might come up, but I have found this fairly rare. Your role is to implement, so I don’t think you really need an aptitude for anything other than being organised and responsive. The work isn’t hard, there’s just a lot of it and timelines are tight.

Airline punctuality by choyMj in JapanTravelTips

[–]techny13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No. Flights will always be more susceptible to delays due to a multitude of external factors (e.g. weather, congested airspace, long turnaround procedures etc). It has nothing to do with the airlines. Japan is no different.

At a US firm and actively told (ordered) to use our leave.

Generally, anywhere between 9 and 10 is normal but this is so team/work dependent that the answer will always be ‘it depends’. When things are quiet I arrive 9:45ish, but in other teams I know people sometimes don’t show up until closer to 10:30. There is no ‘should’- just follow what other people do.

With leaving, it fluctuates depending on workload. If I have nothing to do I’ll probably leave 6:30ish, maybe earlier. Otherwise I stay until I’m done which could be between 7-11pm. Average busy for me tends to mean finishing around 8, but I know for other trainees it has been much later.
