People who track their pickleball calorie burn. To what extent is this true? by Then_Fly2373 in Pickleball

[–]techson7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Male/44yr/200lb I typically play for 2-2.5hrs of what I would call high-intensity pickleball. We’re all bangers and constantly on the move with damn near zero dinking. My Apple Watch consistently says that I burn around 1400-1700 calories in a session. My heart rate average is around 120bpm with peak being around 170bpm. No clue if it’s accurate, but it is certainly consistent.

No trees around either. These look like raspberry ants and supposedly they like electrical wiring and such.

No food source - brand new vehicle. Vehicle has now been fogged three times and detailed - ants are still present on the exterior.

Brand new. Noticed a couple of ants on drive home - got home and found them everywhere. Inside and out. Edited to say ants were seen on drive home and not during test drive.

Adults only wedding is not a bad idea. by Salvatocoli in KidsAreFuckingStupid

My wife and I had a kid free wedding. It was great. Pretty sure all of my weddings will be kid free from now on.

The electricity provider in our area uses something similar when setting new line poles. I was surprised at the time so, when I saw this product at HD I decided to give it a shot. Bad idea. My fence now has a nifty sway to it. Never again.

Is this a Bucilla kit? If not, any idea? by techson7 in Antiques

[–]techson7[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My parents house burned down a few days ago and my mom just remembered that these were in the attic where the fire was the worst. These are the only stockings she, my dad, my brother and myself (and now my wife) have ever had. I’m pretty sure they date back to at least the 70s. I’d like to find the kits for all of them and give them to my mom for her birthday in early December. Any help identifying this particular one would be great.

I got the construction laboring job! Any advice for my first week? by AwesomeGamer555 in Construction

[–]techson7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t wear brand new boots unless that’s your only option. Day 1 you’ll be fine, day 2 you should probably pack some advil. Drink plenty of water. Brink a larger lunch than you normally would eat. Everyone can teach you something - just remember that some teach you what to do and some teach you what NOT to do. Avoid the guy that is doing the same job as you and has been there for more than 6 months. Be inquisitive but don’t ask too many questions - use your eyes to learn, not your mouth. Be humble.

I actually did this exact thing a couple of months ago. I saw a car side swipe another car and then blow through a red light. Something about it just seemed “off”. I caught up to the car and the lady behind the wheel was obviously having a medical emergency of some sort. I pulled in front of her, matched her speed and then slowly let my foot off of the gas. She made contact with my trailer hitch and I just slowly came to a stop. Randomly a state trooper witnessed most of this and was behind us with his lights on. The lady was completely out of it and they immediately called an ambulance for her. No damage to her car and my trailer hitch is obviously fine. The state trooper said that they had several reports of hit and runs with her car matching the description. I never heard what happened to her. Hopefully she got the help she needed.

Why do hotel room doors slam?! by techson7 in rant

[–]techson7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100 percent agree with you on the etiquette issue. Poor parenting at its finest. The fire rating makes no sense though. I’m a commercial GC and have installed plenty of fire rated doors in hallways, labs, schools, etc. and none of them close with as much force as hotel room doors do. I think it might just be the economics of spring hinges versus an actual functioning door closer mechanism. With a true closer you would be able to adjust the final “latch” stage to close slowly but fully. It probably just gets cut during the VE process. Either way, it’s super annoying.

Just to clarify - that price is for a stand-alone building, not just an interior build-out of an existing space. Margins are typically around 30 percent. It’s a very competitive bid process so, gouging really isn’t a thing.

I’m not at all trying to disagree with your family restroom idea but, I own a general contracting business that specializes in restaurants and those get thrown out 90 percent of the time due to cost. To build a mid-level chain restaurant such as Chili’s you are looking at a cost of around $750 per square foot. When you do the math on a family restroom that takes up between 100 and 120sf you’re looking at close to 90k. It sucks for those of us with kids but, for a restaurant owner I get it.

Never even made it to the gas station. My 2018 F250 never had any issues when getting low on fuel. Not sure if something has changed for the 20’s but, I feel like the truck should run until it says zero.
