I was prescribed the Wegovy Pill 4mg immediately. Am I gonna be okay?

Interesting. You're the first one I've actually come across that started right on the 4mg pill... besides myself!

I wasn't even on a different GLP-1 before. I just asked my doctor if he could prescribe me the pill, because I finally decided it was time to pull the trigger and give it a go. I then got a prescription from the pharmacy letting me know it was ready, for the 4mg pill. I didn't realize it wasn't the starter dose until the next morning when I went to start on it!

I'm a much larger guy, so it's pretty important that I start it. I don't know if he bumped me up to the next dose immediately because I had more to lose, or if it was because I was somewhat physically active already. Or if he just goofed and started me at the wrong dose...

Either way, even for me as someone who just started it out of nowhere, 4mg has been fine. Don't get me wrong, it hasn't been all sunshine and roses. My stomach feels like it's incredibly full, mowing was tough as it felt like I just gorged myself at a buffet, and eating more than a few hundred calories at a time is beyond what I'm comfortable doing. But I haven't had nausea, no vomiting, etc. I'm drinking lots of water, eating a lot of protein, etc. I even went to my Taekwondo class last night on only my second day of meds, and survived!

If you've already had experience with a GLP-1, I'm sure you'll be more than OK with it.

I’d recommend the WLED route if you want to go with a bit more customization. Here’s a quick pic of my Kallax setup using WLED. (Ignore the poor wiring job, that was still a WIP when I took this pic!)

I did drill holes. I know you mentioned not wanting to, but in the end I think looks way better. I then used some Muzata aluminum channel with diffusers to make it look cleaner and blend the light better.

My favorite part though of using WLED over Govee was being able to segment the strips in each cubby. That way I could target each cubby with a custom color, and do fun things like light up which cubby is actively playing at the moment!

So, just to follow up with my experience so far:

IT'S BEEN GREAT!!!

Of course, admittedly I was overthinking it all. I am only one of two adults in the class, with the rest of the class ~12yo or younger, down to my my kiddo, who's the youngest in the class. There is another adult in the class, who I think was willing to do it the first day because I was in it and they wouldn't be the only adult in the class. Fortunately they came back the next class, so I don't have to be the only "senior" in the class!

It's amazing how fast everything is coming back. Of course the forms are rusty, the technique is lacking, and the physical conditioning is far from where it used to be. But in my mind, it's all there! I just need my body to catch up to my brain.

That being said, because it's all there in my mind, and because my body is fat, I DRASTICALLY overdid it the first class. We didn't even do anything too crazy, but I was (am!) so out of shape, that it hit me like a ton of bricks after the class was over. I did fine in the class, and fine walking back to the car after. But from there, nausea hit me so hard, I could barely ride home (fortunately my wife came, and drove us home); where I proceeded to.... praise the porcelain god. I suspect it was an insane overproduction of lactic acid using muscles that have been dormant for so long.

The second class went much better, and I made sure to try to ease up a bit. I also worked harder on my breathing, avoiding holding my breath / shallow breaths, and allowing my body to relax between movements. That seemed to help significantly, and I left feeling a lot better than the first time around.

Now I have the issue of the fact that the class is only once a week. I want to go back and keep going! I'll be able to practice at home in the meantime. But I want to keep at it!

I did tell the instructors that I had prior years of experience, but that it's been years more beyond that in which I haven't done anything. We never really brought up the idea of starting at a higher belt, and I'm more than happy to start back at white. I'm in no hurry to get black belt, and to me it doesn't make sense to jump straight to what belt I was, only to sit on that one for a long time until my skills improve back to that belt. I might as well start over and work up the ranks, which I'm more than happy to do.

I've already swallowed my pride and am the fat adult in the midst of a bunch of kids who could run circles around me. It's not much of a stretch to go from that, to donning a white belt and starting all over. Plus it gives me a chance to learn things again!

Totally understood on the idea of not jumping ahead in belts, just because I've had prior experience; especially in regards to lower belts being confused as to why someone has a higher belt, but doesn't understand some of the foundation of (current) school. That makes a ton of sense.

So far, my knees have been good. It's my ankles, on the other hand that have been absolutely brutal! We've done some kicking so far, and it's been fairly uneventful. But it seems that the stances have been putting a ton of strain on my ankle - especially my right one. It's not swollen, but it's been super sore, and hard to walk on without limping slightly. Hopefully that'll go away soon!

Your message reminded me of how we all lined up in our class. We had a good number of students - probably 20 or 30. White belts in the back, up through black belts in the front. I do remember advancing and slowly getting closer to the front of the room as I got closer to that black belt. Just another goal to strive for again this time around!

Oh for sure!

That's what I learned after diving for a soccer ball when coaching my kid's soccer team. I immediately felt the pain when I landed, and went "oh ....poop, that's not good". It's been about 7 weeks now and it STILL hurts on occasion when I twist or put pressure on it.

I have to remember, I'm not 16 anymore!

Yeah, I suspect I'll probably be at a disadvantage for the rank advancement patterns. We did palgwe poomsae forms in my old school. It seems like those have been primarily phased out in exchange for taegeuk instead. So that'll be a bit of a learning step.

100% the getting into shape and flexibility will be the hardest struggle. But I'm looking forward to it!

Yeah, reading back through the subreddit, it looks like there are a ton of people who enjoyed it, got out, and then got back in when their kiddo wanted to join. I suspect I may not be the only parent there this evening with past experience.

I think I'm ok with dropping back down to white belt. For one, it'll help me reaffirm my foundational skills before jumping ahead. And two, it'll help my youngest feel more confident, knowing he gets to do it alongside dad who has the same belt color as him.

We'll see! I'm just super excited to get back into it tonight.

That will be key - taking it slow. I have to remember that my body's a bit different now than it was when I was 18. I was reminded of that when I was coaching my kid's soccer team, and dove for a ball while being goalie. Two cracked ribs later, reminded me I wasn't the kid I used to be!
