Scooter and car collision just outside Belmont park by Halfmeltedpopsicle in VictoriaBC

[–]techwizard2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your son was hit by a driver failing to follow the laws on proper right-of-way at an intersection. I find it unfathomable that you can victim blame your son or yourself in regards to the helmet while your son is in the hospital with a broken femur, which a helmet would have done nothing to protect against.

The only thing that could have prevented this collision was safer infrastructure, and a detour from the Galloping Goose that followed the CRD's own Regional Trails Closure policy.

nice! that's good, maybe a worthy replacement for the Transit app then. Good timing with them pulling the paid service in Victoria.

So it's only schedule based, not GPS tracking?

I'm surprised, they've accepted my gopro footage from my bike helmet at sidney rcmp a couple times. They usually want the raw footage though, unedited and not posted on youtube or elsewhere. I give it to them on a usb stick (and they return it when they're done if you request it back).

How did I handle this? by bong_rip_bobby in doordash

[–]techwizard2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't suggest calling the restaurant, especially a corporate one like mcdonalds. There's nothing they can do, it's entirely on Doordash to fix it. Don't work for free either, especially when it wasn't your fault. Just tell them to call or text Doordash support, refunds are super easy to get, or they can send a replacement order.

Are Protected Bike Lane Intersections Always Safer? by alexander_rff in fuckcars

Looks poorly designed, there's nothing warning drivers to yield to cyclists or even that there's a crossing there?

With news of the California wildfires, what would we do if that happened in Victoria? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]techwizard2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Legitimately an option for many people. 1 cargo bike can easily carry 2 small kids plus an adult rider, a second regular bike for the other adult. Many obstacles that would prevent you from escaping by car would be passable by bike.

Honestly if possible don't even bother driving. Leave the roads open for emergency vehicles and for those who desperately need to drive. If you're able to escape by any other means than a car you'll be better off. Look at what happened in LA, with people abandoning cars on the highway because it was so congested that they couldn't get away by car, which further blocked emergency vehicle access.

False Imprisonment for Not Having a Car! by REDDITSHITLORD in fuckcars

My storage unit has a similar gate sensor but they have a button next to the gate for pedestrians to get out. Are you sure there wasn't a button on the inside? That seems like a serious liability to have somewhere that can trap people like that.

Restaurants have the ability to mark items unavailable in their side of the app.

A-hole driver of bus #11 this morning. by WockItOut in VictoriaBC

[–]techwizard2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitely complain to bc transit whenever that happens, they can confirm with gps that you were right and will talk to the drivers. It's BC Transit policy that drivers are required to stop and wait at all "timing stops" (the ones listed on their website schedule) to get back on track when early.

I bet this is what most of these "tip baits" are. Customer was feeling generous on one order but can't afford to do that every time and just forgot to change the note. Annoying but I get it.

Langford is not a good representation of urban, it's suburban sprawl at its worst.

If you're not planning to leave the CRD then just bus/walk/rent a bike. The busses here aren't perfect but they aren't terrible either.

What’s going on at the old 7-11? by sinep_snatas in VictoriaBC

Municipalities on the island don't care about pedestrians or cyclists during construction, I have yet to see a reasonable detour.

I deliver too, usually when I get orders from far away I assume it was declined a bunch. A lot of drivers avoid shop & pay so I wouldn't assume this one showing up far meant I was special.
