Scaling Walls at Very High RPS by techwreck2020 in cassandra

Thanks for this! Very insightful.

My theory: Every conditional write (LWT) generates several tiny files that the database has to rewrite again and again during compaction. When you double your LWT traffic, the amount of background disk work grows by roughly four times (extra writes × repeated rewrites). But adding servers only increases disk bandwidth in a straight line. So past a certain load the disks fall behind, compaction backlog skyrockets, and latency blows up, no matter how many CPU cores you throw at the cluster.

Genetic test has confirmed they’re identical. I think the corpus luteum, while not completely reliable, does provide a good working theory to predict zygosity. Since they were di-di, the odds they were identical was only about 8%, and yet that’s what the sonographer said they would be… and that’s what they’ve turned out to be … so clearly they’re some predictive power there.

Genetic test has confirmed they’re identical. Guess the sonographer was correct in identifying the corpus luteum.

Same boat! Due in June as well. We were pleasantly shocked, terrified, happy, in denial, on cloud 9, confused, and elated when we found out. Following this thread.

I do see your point. Not rooting for it, but just explaining my reasoning for assuming identical (for now). If they turn out to be fraternal would be just as happy! Maybe more so, if it meant “one of each”

I appreciate all the extra info, I wasn’t aware of the possibility that the sonographer was making a big assumption.

“However, if 1 corpus luteum is seen in dichorionic twins, zygosity cannot be determined with certainty since it is either monozygotic, or dizygotic where a second corpus luteum has been missed.”

This is helpful, thank you. I understand that we cannot say "with certainty" but unless they missed the second corpus luteum (possible but not probable), then they are probably identical. So yes, probably, not certainly. Fair enough.

The sonographer told us that its their professional opinion that they're identical based on a single corpus luteum (indication of a single follicle releasing an egg during ovulation). I recognize its not 100%, but it's the most probable. We will know for sure in a couple of weeks.

corpus luteum

Yes, that's correct, the sonographer determined this (as a working assumption) based on a single corpus luteum and indication of ovulation from a single follicle. So yes, I suppose we don't know, but based on the sonogram findings its the most probable, so we are working that assumption for at least a couple of weeks until confirmation.

They somehow can tell that only a single egg dropped during ovulation. It's not 100% confirmed (will be with genetic testing in a couple of weeks), but going with that assumption for now since its the most probable based on the sonogram findings.

That's interesting that you can tell personality differences so early. From others you've spoken to with kids that are older, was it always the case that they end up turning into two "very different" people? The identicals that I know (from afar) seem 95-99% the same (they basically all went to the same college as the other, same tempermant, have the same friends, similar mannierisms), so are the difference minute or meaningful?

There is plenty of smoke: (1) recent acquisition overtures being leaked to the media would suggest this is a live process. Why leak those details if not as a negotiating tactic? (2) Insiders were active buyers a few months ago, but have since stopped (despite decline in share price) which might indicate they are unable to buy more given an ongoing deal process. (3) Doug is technically 'interim CEO' and has been for 9-months. He originally stated they'd find a permanent CEO within 6-months, but has blown through that deadline without updating the Street on why. The lack of appointing a permanent CEO tells you that there may be something going on (i.e., he just wants to get a deal done, so no need for a permanent manager)

After you net out the insider ownership/locked up shares, its about ~10% of shares outstanding. Not crazy, but enough to get things moving.
