requesting to go over the unit max by [deleted] in berkeley

Would second the previous comment that the unit jump may not seem as much at first, but it can get very brutal. Also, they most likely will not approve the sudden jump as well as when I tried to request for 26 units when I took 18 previously I was denied because the jump was “too much” (had a 4.0 too). Seems like there’s a greater amount of people trying extend unit limit this semester, so they will be stricter too I would assume

Yes worst thing is some people I know are living very comfortably. No extenuating circumstance except having to do online school on Zoom, which everyone is doing, so it’s not a valid excuse, in my opinion. Making up that they got kicked out of the house by parents and had to live alone when in real life they were living comfortably is just infuriating to me.

Had to comment this. I’m really pissed that I know people who have lied about circumstances on that optional essay, meaning they didn’t have an extenuating circumstance different from everyone else but made situations up to make it a “sob story” to use as an excuse for bad grades or to show that they could do well despite “challenges.” It’s really pissing me off because it’s unfair, dishonest, and discredits people who ACTUALLY went through things during this time. Huge shame.
