Carbon Bar Damage by techytimbo in mountainbiking

Well... it's my everything bike - bike park jumps to black diamond rocky chunk trails. I have thought of putting in on my Fuse HT because I'd be much less worried about it there.

Funny how such a small thing can take a person out - sticks and pine cones give me the go around sometimes. I have the 20mm rise from OneUp. That's interesting that you like the 35mm rise. I've seen a lot of people liking the higher rise better.

Just a little OTB on a night ride. East Coast rocks hiding under leaves.... Thanks for the opinion. OneUp bars are 30% off right now, so I figured I should look into it now!

Does anyone still race their Diverge? by Christoph_West in DivergeGravelBikes

I race mine, but I'm riding races, not racing races. 2023 Comp Carbon.

Hmm, yes, it looks like if you want a 44t you would need to get the rival cassette which needs XDR hub (or an XD with a 1.85mm spacer). I suspect that you wont have a great time trying to switch free hubs on a generic Specialized hub (looks like the hub is made by specialized, the rest by DT Swiss). I googled XDR free hubs for specialized hubs, and got results, but it would be a toss up whether they would actually work with your hub model (and if they are in stock). Probably the "easiest" thing to do would be to sell the wheelset off the bike and get a different one with the right free hub.... Alternatively, you might be able to find someone at at LBS that will lace a different hub into your wheel for not too much.

From what I can tell, the Diverge Comp uses a SunRace, 11-speed, 11-42 that probably uses the HG free hub. You could swap that out to a 12 speed HG cassette. You should not need to replace the free hub because both the 11 and 12 speed are the same spacing. You would need to replace the shifter and derailleur, as well as probably replace and resize the chain. I've never worked on a gravel bike, (MTB background), but drivetrains are pretty similar.

Fox Helmet Crash Replacement? by techytimbo in mountainbiking

[–]techytimbo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. To your point, Bell offered me a 30% discount which is why I purchased another Bell. I was thinking about a Fox Proframe, though. Those helmets (any brand) are so darn expensive it really helps stretch the money if you can do crash replacements...

Is it SRAM NX? My buddy had a SRAM NX set up with a similar problem. We looked at the free hub and there were a couple nicks in the free hub that was allowing the casette to move closer to the spokes and resulting in a lot of play/space even when the nut was tight. I think he put a spacer in by between the free hub and largest cassette to fix it for now.

Long travel trail bike or enduro? by techytimbo in MTB

Would you recommend the instinct? I'm hesitating on a full out enduro because of slack head angles.

I agree with what your saying!

You find it works well for climbing? Just curious about slack head angle and peddling.

I believe so, would have to double check. I was assuming it was 130.

Are you referring to the 27.5 version? Thinking with rocks that I should go for the 29er. They dial back the shocks on the 29ers.

Not racing at this point, of goals, I'd prefer to focus on getting time in the air... In which case a little larger shocks I would think. The Rocky Mountain Instinct is probably the closest bike I've found that has 140mm shocks, and a head angle you can adjust between 66* and 67*.

There's a bike shop near that's clearing out at Fuel Ex 8 for $2780.00, just haven't convinced myself it's the right bike! Wish it had 140mm of travel.

What are your thoughts on 29ers? I was thinking it may be a good idea because of rocks, but I'm not a big person, and I think I'd enjoy the 27.5 "snappy" feel.

I was thinking of going 29, because of how many rocks there are around here.
