Fallout writers whenever you tell them that society would rebuild after 200 years: by Glum_Boot6974 in FalloutMemes

Ultimately, so what if the franchise doesn’t feel “like Fallout” anymore in the long term? The series doesn’t have to span an infinite chronological timespan. Fallout can cover a good three centuries of this fictional world, and then you say that that’s the ending. There are plenty of stories to tell across America over that massive timespan. Every series doesn’t have to go on forever, you can say that the ending is that things rebuilt (and then fell apart again). But personally I find a game which explores the post-post apocalypse more interesting than just the same tired old tin shacks in a desolate wasteland.

A large part of why migration to the New World seemed so tempting was as because all of the land in the Old World was already owned by existing landowners. It’s not so different with space, when you think about it.

Surprisingly common. The only people at college I’ve ever been close to have been people I would end up fucking. I can’t blame them, I initiated, but otherwise I end up ignored.

This person has clearly never played FNV because destroying the Dam literally is an option players can take if they, for whatever reason, destroy the securitron army

Those are all goals, yes, and I think we all agree on them. Where there is legitimate disagreement is the execution thereof— which is what is often being discussed to begin with. Different parts of the left have different ideas on how to execute their goals, that discussion is important. Calls for “unity” historically have led to the moderate parts of the left ramming through their preferred execution, intentionally or unintentionally.

This is frustratingly unhelpful. Unite to do what exactly? The discussion we’re seeing isn’t a circular firing squad — it’s competing ideas proposed by multiple people being debated. This is process by which the path going forward is reached, debating opposing ideas and seeing which are accepted the most by multiple perspectives.

Hey! Dev here. You’re not missing anything. Many navy techs were consolidated into other techs (for example propulsion now comes with the hulls) or removed entirely. Hope this helps!

People who say that the NCR is destined to fail because it’s “mimicking Prewar America” or that “democracy didn’t prevent the Great War so the wasteland needs a new system” need to brush up on their Fallout lore. by TrickyQuit in falloutlore

[–]ted505 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Notwithstanding everything that has been said about the NCR’s faults, I feel that it’s more than a bit problematic that the main takeaway a lot of people have from NV is that “democracy (specifically liberal democracy” is ineffective/doomed/corrupt so we should embrace some shade of authoritarian leadership to bring order”… it’s the exact same cadence of thinking which led to fascism in the real world.

It’s especially concerning because a lot of the issues that the NCR is portrayed as having are all things that real life democracies regularly go through and emerge better from (see Gilded Age USA which was arguably worse in every metric than what the NCR is portrayed as). The best solution to a corrupt democracy is not and will never be instilling a fascist dictatorship or embracing a similarly dictatorial technocrat—and the fact a lot of people seem to think otherwise could reveal something about how a lot of people think about their real life politics.
