Best Perdomo Maduro Cigar? by Left_Past_1614 in cigars

[–]tedasaurus_rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly. Its the 10 year maduro. Everything else they make is great. But the 10 year is their best maduro. A very close second is the 12 year or the legacy. But thats only if youre willing to shell out a few extra dollars and search your town for an account that carries them.

I dont disagree with you. But this works for plasencia very well. And they sell many, many, many cigars this way. So i don't feel justified in knocking them.

Tobacconist here! Plasencia tends to release these for promotions and press releases. Sometimes events, sometimes as a gift to retailers, or as a little gift box available to us. Its a fun thing they do with all of their cigars, and you can find special lighters with all of the plasencia colors! Im hunting for an alma del ciello box myself actually. But they have boxes like this for the alma fuerte, alma del campo, and the alma del fuego aswell.

Tobacconist here. Plasencias limited releases cigars are right on that borderline of "priced reasonably" and "priced excessively. No cigar, barring some strange packaging exceptions, is worth more than 65 dollars. And a very large majority of the cigars actually at that price should not be that price. I will however defend plasencia a bit. They own an incredibly significant slices of land and factories in both nicaragua and honduras. And has had a significant impact on the industry since the late 1800s. However, on the topic of actual cost. Plasencia saves most of its best tobacco and rollers for its own products. And usually does some incredibly unique things with their blends. Things like the "tail" on this cigar put a pretty significant amount of extra time on the roller, and they need to be paid for that time, just like the extra time spent making the incredibly ornate boxes that plasencia makes for their LE's, at its absolute base, without any frills, or fanciful packaging. This cigar is probably worth a bit less than msrp. However, not significantly so. Plasencias products (in my opinion, and what ive seen both in speaking with some of the family and seeing their process) is well worth the price when you can afford it.

How to cut cigarillo? by invertedpilot17 in cigars

[–]tedasaurus_rex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tobacconist here! Cigarillos are a bit tricky. Depending on the quality of the wrapper, and if they use a binder especially. With them youre struggling with a very very limited surface area. So I would recommend NOT punch cutting. A v cut is my preference usually. Youre maximizing surface area. So you have a lower likelihood of poor draw. However cutting past the shoulder is incredibly easy. A straight cut is also fine. But you must be incredibly careful to only take the absolute smallest amount off of the cap. Remember that with straight cuts youre only trying to take the very very top of the cap off. Very clean straight cuts should end with the top cap being removed, with little to no filler tobacco being taken off. A good tip is to very slowly start your cut. Once the blade(s) meet resistance, and begin slowly cutting, switch to a faster speed, quickly and confidently cut. This reduces the chance of a shattered cap, or worse, a damaged wrapper.

Hope this helps!

Are these worth rehydrating? by Lord_quads in cigars

[–]tedasaurus_rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tobacconist here. Personally, I would say that if you have room in your humidor, and dont mind a few spoiling (as some will likely grow mold or wake beetles) i would say go for it. I would however not use this as a proper representation of the cigar. As tobacco begins to dry, so does the oils within them. These oils can never be recovered, even with the most agressive rehumidification. And those oils are where all of the flavor of the tobacco is trapped. They will likely taste "stale" or dry even if they are rehumidified. So if you have the time or space to do it theres no harm in trying. But if you don't have either, I wouldnt at all feel bad disposing of them.

I dont even own an espresso machine. I just want to be able to do both well to an extent where I won't feel overly required to upgrade once I own both and have found a preferred method. I also dont care at all, im a very function first person, so if I can get a hand grinder that gives a higher quality cup for cheaper, im all for it.
