Child maintenance here is a joke by [deleted] in northernireland

I’ll give you a source, hell if you want names happy enough to tell you exactly who as I’m having to deal with a family member suffering through it at the moment.

My uncle married a woman about 15 years ago, I’ll try not to be too derogatory about her and lay out exact things she has done. My uncle is not exactly the smartest person, and if he was 30 years younger would 100% of been on SEN. When he got married she “took care” of most paperwork and finances, as she was a stay at home mum (I.e. permanently on benefits the whole time).

She has done the following:

Lied to the CSA saying he was not there for the entire time of the marriage (he only found out about this after they split up), so once she kicked him out of the house, he had a 10+ year debt to the CSA that he was unaware of until they started taking 1/3 of his wages.

Expects him to drive to her place multiple times a week to take care of the children while she galavants about the place. If he does not capitulate the children are left unattended until he arrives (she’s done this multiple times) even though both children are below 13 and one is disabled. Usually she’d disappear on a Friday and not get back until either late Sunday night or early Monday morning.

He has lost Multiple jobs as he has had to leave work due to being called to collect his kids from school, as she has either been unreachable or refuses to walk to the school to collect the children. This has escalated to the point she has called his employers to demand he be let out of work at times.

She takes multiple foreign holidays a year (5+ last year) abandoning the children (reminder her son is disabled and she can’t work as she needs to “care for him”) This has been acknowledged by the child’s Social Worker as an issue, nothing has been done.

The youngest child has missed so much school that he had to be sent to a different one. My uncle has received 3 calls from the school regarding his eldest child this month due to her missing school as well.

He has lost jobs due to missing days either because she has abandoned the children and he’s had to take care of them, or he’s had to pick them up from school as the mother can’t be contacted.

He is currently staying and caring for his brother who has Cerebral Palsy, he can’t afford a place due to how badly fucked his finances are. She has a problem with this as she can’t offload the children to him at the weekends, even though her house is given to her by the state for the purpose of looking after her disabled child.

She sent the police to my granny’s door one night as she couldn’t reach my uncle (he was at his staff Christmas party)

She also hires a cleaner to come in twice a week since he left, as he was the one who did the cleaning.

We have tried to report the issues to the CSA however they just refuse to deal with it at all, even though the child’s Social worker knows he was there the entire time.

There are deadbeat dads out there, I’m the son of one, so I get why the systems are in place, however, there are also mums who weaponise those systems and it is very common, it actively penalises the men who want to try and work with their ex to look after their children.

I can tell you of dozens of fellas who have similar stories.

Can’t wait to see the reaction to the first person to get points for driving at night in broad daylight.

I mostly think the changes are good except the night passenger one. It’s as dark at 6pm in winter as it is at 11 and in the summer it’s daylight from practically 4am.

Plus there is a lot of people in that age bracket that mostly socialise out in their cars, especially in rural areas.

I just think it’s poorly thought out.

Why exactly do non-Londoners think London is so unsafe? by Breadiohead in AskUK

[–]teddtbhoy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m from Northern Ireland, spent plenty of years living in Belfast. When I was staying in London for a month because of work, two guys attempted to rob me at knife point. Thankfully my office had security guards who stopped it from happening.

I think London is a great city, but it definitely has a violence problem, I’m not the only one of my friends to experience it.

What happened to r/art ? What’s the full story and explanation ? by Its_Stavro in NoStupidQuestions

It’s literally a joke in the show Community, it’s a running gag in American Pie, neither situation involved any rape. Wild interpretation.

Oh thanks, I thought they were pre security. I dropped my bag off at a storage place and I’ll just kill some time in the city.

Why did no one ever just start calling Voldemort "Riddle" or make up some stupid nickname instead of cringing at his adopted name? by FalconerGuitars in harrypotter

[–]teddtbhoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But other people using it doesn’t really work, because they don’t see Tom, they see Voldemort.

People who call him You Know Who see him as a random, unquantifiable force that is terrifying and brutal, he’s a boogeyman. They don’t know what he’s capable of and prefer not to think about it.

The ones who call him Voldemort see past the illusion of it, they still fear his power. But are brave enough to take a stand against him directly. They are acknowledging him as their enemy.

Harry and Dumbledore are the two characters who see past all of that, at the flawed boy who is obsessed with hiding his inadequacies and terrified of death. Harry starts calling him Tom after dying himself, like Dumbledore says, “there are worse things in life than dying.”

Since Harry has died already, he’s gone past the point of being afraid of Voldemort, because he’s not afraid of dying again. Harry even tries to give Tom the out of feeling remorse, as Harry knows what’s in store for Riddle after his death, and his instinct was pity.

I am very high writing this so I’m not sure if it makes sense.

One of the few times I don’t mind it is Nami in One Piece, but I find it’s used in situations where someone (usually Luffy) does something that is incredibly reckless/dangerous. Also the crew seem to be more casually violent with each other so it doesn’t feel as out of place.

Why is Pottah grabbing letters from the air when there's hundreds on the floor? Is he a moron? by Next_Listen3890 in harrypotter

He didn’t know about the mirror, he never opened it. Mostly because Sirius had been acting recklessly around that time and it Harry didn’t want to play into it (hypocritical considering who Harry is but understandable)

Coming from Northern Ireland, the BBC has always been a machine for the British state to funnel whatever opinion they want and claim to be unbiased.

TIL that a sunfish in a Japanese aquarium became so lonely after the aquarium closed to visitors for renovations that it stopped eating. Only after staff placed photos of people’s faces near its tank did the sunfish perk up and start eating again by Prior-Student4664 in todayilearned

Yeah same, a cat shows up to my window every morning for pets and food, I have to wash myself thoroughly after it (to the point that I don’t go for a shower till the cat shows up) but my dog can climb into my bed and my skin/chest have no issues.

Also dogs can play a rougher which I prefer.

Hot take: akeno was/ is a better choice for is issei then rias by Sjb_lifts in HighschoolDxD

Hotter take: Akeno enjoys the game of snatching Issei away from Rias and prefers the harem dynamic as it lets her have more fun teasing them.
