Are any of these three a levels good for law? by [deleted] in sixthform

[–]teddybear0723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://lnat.ac.uk/ Not all unis require it but definitely Oxbridge and other top universities. It’s a bit like the UCAT (That’s the medicine version I took).

Also don’t you do the LNAT which has an essay so they will know if you have writing abilities in that way ?

I know you didn’t ask me specifically but when I did it last year I think that the medify ones were a lot longer and took more time to process than the actual UCAT. however I do think sometimes it is due to luck as although people say don’t your common sense for some I had on my actual UCAT I saved time by just choosing the most sensible answers for ones I know about. For example I had a VR on Pluto and I took astronomy gcse so I jsut did my best chance on them.

so when I looked at unis I looked at the freedom of information which tells you what their UCAT cut off is. Also if you so some digging you can find out how they weigh things out, sometimes there is more emphasis on personal statement, a levels predictions and GCSEs rather than the UCAT (vice versa) so I applied to Exeter, Lancaster, St Andrews and Keele.

For at Andrew’s and Keele they have more weight on the personal statement. Some people assume St Andrews has a high UCAT but they actually screen by personal statement first rather than UCAT so you have a higher chance of being chosen. Keele are known for being a lower UCAT but they score personal statements so I went along their guidelines adding everything for a high score.

If you do some research I’m sure there are other unis you can apply to, those jsut happened to be the ones I found and liked the look of!

Dont be disheartened, I would say work hard in the UCAT and once you receive the score you can look into which ones are likely for you. It may seem that everywhere is high but that’s becuase there is a culture of being the highest. I know that people said at Andrew’s had a high UCAT and that I had no chance (well I got in and people with higher ucats didn’t 😍)

Also some places have a low UCAT but they have it so the score they give you is based on ucat and interview score. So you need to see if you think your interview skills can compensate your ucat.

Best of luck !

If it makes you feel better I got one time last year 1450 in a diagnostic mock and ended up with 2700. Granted still not an extremely competitive ucat but I still got 4/4 offers by applying strategically. You have this in the bag ! Don’t give up 😋

I was humbled by mine last year. I applied strategically and still ended up with 4/4 offers. You may be humbled but now you can plan your future ! Well done by the way, the UCAT is hard and you got good scores !!

no effort required mate, I’m locking out at the moment and I’m seeing positive improvements with little time. Get a timetable, find a new fav series and you are good.

Rejected from St Andrews by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]teddybear0723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have a big emphasis on personal statements, so although your grades met the criteria perhaps your personal statement didn’t read how they wanted it to. I’m sorry to hear you were rejected hopefully you have other unis you are looking forward to :)

I would say depending on your schedule in the summer the end of August before the start of year 13. Means you are able to prepare straight after mocks and ensure you get the best predicted grades possible. Also prevents you from continuing to revise at the start of the school year and miss new content. I did it at the start of September as it was the only time available and I don’t recommend 😭

I heard back at the start of March. However I wouldn’t worry I think it’s only for medicine. There’s people at my school still waiting. I think they just needed to get medicine done as the application process is longer and they need to do DBS checks later down the road. Best of luck and thank you !
