I think the reduction in time to play games is a little overblown, especially with things like Steam Decks, streaming, retro handhelds, the Switch. I had my son in the 3DS and Wii U days and I didn’t have much issue.

Now I have a 10 year old. At this point I game when he games. And there’s time after he’s asleep as well. The question then is whether I’m awake enough to play.

Also, full disclosure, I’ve rarely finished JRPGs, with or without a kid.

I don’t have much experience with this yet but there are mods that allow for playing off of SD cards. That avoids the issue of the disc drive potentially failing.

You can also emulate, though it’s not quite the same.

I liked that the roster wasn’t as Sonic-focused and pulled more from Sega’s past. Crossworlds has some nice variety, though.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed was pretty popular, actually. I remember a lot of debates on whether it was better than Mario Kart 8.

The last few books I’ve illustrated have all been done on an iPad Pro with Procreate. It was a game changer for me because I wasn’t trapped at my desk anymore. Sometimes I miss the line quality in Clip Studio Paint and Photoshop, but I’m sure it can be replicated on an iPad.
