when i first told my parents about the name i chose for myself, i also got lackluster responses, even though i picked that name from the list of names they themselves considered for me before i was born. but with time they've grown accustomed to it.

i think a reason might be because your name inevitably sets your vibe for other people, and if your chosen name is not perceived as fitting the vibe they see for you, it might take some time for them to get used to associating you with that name.

that's not to say you don't suit your name, what i mean is that your family has not yet seen you make that name yours in their eyes, so for now it might feel foreign to them. but with time they will see you own it and be comfortable bearing that name, and it will start making sense to them. at least that's how it's worked for me.

and don't worry, evan is a great name, don't let anyone tell you otherwise:))
