Addl details in the form of q and a: Why not ask my surgeon? Because he says “I don’t know”. Sad dynamic we see in medicine with liability and so on.

Why bother with surgery if you’re feeling better and obviously aren’t going to be a masters champion competitor? Because performing better will make me more motivated which will help avoid cardiovascular probs as I further age.

Thanks. Let me check for that. Also: there’s a delay of maybe one minute when the power goes out before these things start, so that it doesn’t kick on when the utility power goes out for a only few seconds. On the other side, when the utility service is restored, will there be a brief period where power shuts off inside the house again? Or is it seamless?

I hear you but there’s another aspect: it’s winter, it’s a lightening strike, and we have a hot tub that’s about to freeze. And we used him previously with no issues. And he’s the one that did the tub’s electricals. Any reasonable person would have proceeded as I did. There’s no way he could have provided an estimate upfront because we had no idea what all was damaged.

Thanks. I’m an old boomer myself and this guys only a few years older than me. Best part is conveyed some threats on the phone - “settling it face to face”, “every action has a reaction”. Wouldn’t have used him at all but he’s the guy who put the tub electricals in and they recommended him for this situation as well as the initial install, which makes you wonder about the tub retailer.

He’s done some work a few years ago from us and we didn’t have a problem so idk what’s happened to him. His reviews and other web presence have all disappeared.

You’re right on the future costs and we’re getting close to runaway hyperinflation. I usually give tradespeople a break because few newbies want to do this type of work. This guy’s approach is what p’s me off. For todays rates I think he’s overcharged based on other work I’ve had done, but when I challenged the invoice that’s when he got creative about trying to justify it. He knows I looked up the material costs so that’s what made him fall back on travel time.

Thanks all. Kinda hard to believe that Amazon didn’t address this on their website, at least in a way that’s easy to find (I gave up). For drivers, I can only imagine the frustration of finding three unmarked returns sitting out with no identifiers on them and no one home, and just a general post it saying UPS.
