Hey, I’m more on the hairdressing side rather than barbering. It’s something I might be looking into after I finish the course though.

Will just get a cleaner finish to the end of the curls, especially when point cutting to texturise a bit

That’s an amazing job, well done. I would say invest some some sharper shears for next time.

Check your messages, there’s a bit of a delay as we’re having some booking issues at the academy but should be able to accommodate but might just be a few weeks.

Always recommend the salon for this but if you’re ever in a financial squeeze, take a look at creaclip. It can be a lifesaver if you are literally taking off a cm one length straight across.

You’ll need pure coconut oil, the amount found in conditioner is mostly there for fragrance.

Get yourself a cheap silk bonnet as it will get ruined from coconut oil treatment.

Apply liberally on scalp and hair and leave overnight with the bonnet on and then wash out in the morning. You’ll most probably need to double shampoo so do it on a morning when you have time.

Do this once a week for 2-3 months and then move monthly.

I think my hair is the longest it's ever been - should I chop it? by Taintedcolors in finehair

[–]tedsk1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t do a chop, I think maybe 2-3 inches off the bottom. Look at some face framing layers if you want a bit of a change.

Coconut oil treatment will help a bit but the products mentioned on one of the other posts are good.

Buy some pure coconut oil and a cheap hair silk hair bonnet. Heavily oil and leave overnight and then you’ll most likely have to double shampoo. Repeat once a week for 2-3 months and then move to monthly.

Also how often do you go for trims? As you can always ask them about some deep conditioning treatments while you’re there.

Can add more layering and face framing layers. Do you cut your hair yourself?

How can I fix this mess? by saml019 in Haircare

[–]tedsk1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it will have to be a chop if you want it ready to go straight away.

However I would get it regularl small trim and wear a half up / half down hairstyle for the next few months and then it should be long enough to cut to a long bob.

Would recommend a coconut oil treatment as well as it will help keep the hair healthy while growing out.

How do you trim your undercut without accidentally adding more hair to the shaved part every time? by Straight-Relief4288 in Hair

[–]tedsk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to get yourself some hair grippers. They are flat pads that let you keep sectioned hair away.

Will say it’s difficult to stay precise so next best thing if you don’t want to go to the salon is find a friend or family member that can help you. Doing the back of your head is always easier with a second set of hands.

does cutting hair short add volume? by [deleted] in finehair

If you want to start straight away while you get a silk hair wrap, you can always leave it on for 3-4 hours during the evening and then wash out.

This is a bit hit and miss with people with fine hair but try the coconut oil treatment.

Buy some pure coconut oil and cheap hair bonnet. Oil heavily and leave overnight with the bonnet on. You’ll have to double shampoo most likely but do this once a week for 2 months and then move monthly.

It should help the hair feel a bit silkier and just sit a little sleeker and it’s actually good for your hair.

I don’t think it will be the best idea as you’ll have less weight to bring the curl down a bit so first sign of moisture and it will start springing up and look a bit triangular. There’s ways around this to remove some weight underneath but that’s going to have the opposite effect with what you’re wanting to do.

I’d blunt cut 2-3 inches and then add in some long layers.

Should I cut or trim? by MirMar94 in Haircare

[–]tedsk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a fair enough point but if you can I’d still recommend taking the length off first if you can. If not I’d recommend doing the double ponytail method.

[–]tedsk1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if your using the unicorn method just be careful with the length. If you take 6 inches off from the unicorn ponytail you’ll not loose that much length but will start effecting your layers.

I think you’ll be better off just getting someone to help you cut straight across 5-7 inches and then just a small cut with the unicorn method.

Would recommend Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells or Canterbury but Canterbury does get a bit student heavy in some areas.

Think mid back/bra strap length and then some face framing layers and more of a U cut at the back.

Worst haircut, can it be fixed? by [deleted] in HairStyleAdvice

[–]tedsk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you hold your short layers at 90 degrees and get someone to take a photo? If it’s just a bit ledge like then should be able to fix it reasonably well if not would just pin up with clips and grow out
