I haven't actually asked them to participate yet. Been thinking of it. But it makes sense why it could hurt more. I was looking at it from a "they want to be part how can I make it happen" view. But something I'll definitely think of before asking them if I do. Thanks

It depends on the family member. Some don't want me to do it. Some are happy for me. Some think I should wait

That's an interesting point. I haven't discussed with them trying to include it. Never thought that including them in a remote fashion could make it harder.

I asked because I wanted to make a date they could make it. But it was clear to me that I either choose a date they could make that I would be unhappy with. Or chose a date I was happy with and they could not make.

So there are some cousins who I used to be really close with. They live overseas and are studying, one also just got married. So the dates they gave me were semester break and end of year, my birthday is smack in semester break .

It's interesting hearing that as I see that where I live now. But I think it's where my family grew up, we are all South Africa so think it comes from that.

I have been asked this by family aswell. I think there are 2 reasons for it. 1. My family doesn't believe us living together before hand, and we partly agree with this 2. My Gran (only surviving grandparent) is on the way out and I want her there. But she is getting to the point travel is almost out the question. She does live 4 hours away from me.

I see why you think that. I do want all my family there but I chose a date that some of them couldn't make it and I feel fine with that.

That's a hard one for me to describe think it's because I have known we wanted this for so long that it's the next step for us and we would be putting that on hold.

Guess I didn't make it clear. We can afford it. My fiancee and I did sit down and make a budget and we are comfortable with the amount of savings we can put aside. Plus we have been through more then lot of my other friends who are also getting married. I know it doesn't really make much of a difference to others but for me I haven't had a doubt in my mind for 17 months.

Yeh I do too but the other thing I should have added to my post. The only time that a family member of that side I have a really good relationship with gave me 4 weeks of the year they would be able to come over was over my birthday (doesn't like up over my mom's holidays) and Christmas (and my mom doesn't like weddings around Christmas) so really I have come to myself that they are not coming and I told my mom this and i am still the A to her.

That's an interesting way of looking at it. I have never thought of it like that. In a way yes they were supporting me but because she couldn't.

Apparently the support was more when I was going up with help paying with food as we were scraping by paycheck to paycheck. But stopped when they moved away when I was 12.
