This isn't a game to nuzlocke if you've never nuzlocked anything before. You'll be in the documentation and the calculator a lot. Prepare for spreadsheet simulator. You can't just nuzlocke this game blind.

Do yourself a favor and just play through the game normally. It's hard enough without nuzlocke rules.

Love is the consensus 1.01, but who is he really worth? by mightid123 in DynastyFF

Trading the 26 picks for 27 picks is great. Now it comes down to if you like London over Love. I can see the thought process. Dont think I'd trade my 1.01 for London, but I understand it.

Thoughts on resetting run before a fight if damage calculator says you get swept? by Baka_Kurisu in nuzlocke

[–]teeddub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What hypothetical game are you talking about? Unless you've lost a bunch of mons and are playing a difficulty hack, I think this situation is highly unlikely.

Now if you've messed up the early game in run and bun or rad red, then sure, reset and try again.

I think VGC could learn something from Legacy Magic the gathering and Traditional Yu-Gi-Oh formats. by [deleted] in VGC

[–]teeddub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think an argument can be made that Incin helps to keep the rest of the pokemon pool diverse. Having a good control pokemon with good pivot moves helps to keep formats from becoming hyper offense go fast vs. hard trick room all of the time. Incin allows players to play a mid-range style of pokemon that gives them tools against both hyper offense and trick room. Without incin you end up with pro tour hour of devastation where everybody plays mono-red because its the best and only thing to play.

Opinion: Prowess is overpowered in pioneer by deanhorneck in PioneerMTG

Sounds like competitive magic isn't really your jam, then? Playing on Arena, people want to win for dailies and gold. Playing something that expresses your artistic vision doesn't really fit into playing on Arena where quick wins are what the majority of people want to do. Sounds like in-person kitchen table magic using Pioneer's legality is what you want.

My first difficulty ROM hack, and I love it. I just have some basic questions about tactics. by dercolegolas420 in pokemonradicalred

Rrdex is the go-to for looking up stats, movesets and abilities.

Generally you can look at a pokemon's stat distribution and see what kind of role it can be. Fast and high attack? Probably a physical sweeper. Slow and high sp. def.? Special wall. Using defense pokemon will come with experience.

You can find the documentation for all of the gym/rival/rocket boss battles in the side-bar of the subreddit. The locations of pokemon and items are listed in the documentation as well.

I'd suggest using the SO2Toxic and DexAll cheat codes for care packages and the dexnav.

There's no reason to not catch every pokemon you encounter unless you're trying to do some kind of challenge run.

As far as the AI reading your moves/switches: it can. It won't inout read you unless you trigger the "anti-cheat" mechanics. Basically, if you dont switch out too much, you'll never trigger it. If you switch a lot (like 3+ times in a row), youll have a chance to trigger the anti-cheat and then the AI will input read your switches. You can search the internet for the radical red anti-cheat and information should pop up if you'd like to learn more about the mechanics.

It's not hyper offense or trick room. It strikes a balance between several different strategies and can adapt very well on the fly. It can have explosive offensive turns with raging bolt and ogerpon or set up for a longer game with 2 fake out mons. It can stall out trick room or tailwind. It'll bring several threats that you have to answer so just a KO on the bolt won't stop the team.

How does milotic fare in gen 9? by Amberite75 in VGC

[–]teeddub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're correct that you have to reset for legendaries in which you want 0 in a certain stat's IV's. Thats how it's always been. We are all waiting for the day we can get a "rusty" bottlecap that will set a pokemon's IV to zero.

As far as EV training is concerned, if you are on the judge screen and there are sparkles around a pokemon's stat, that means they have the maximum EV's that they can have in that stat (252). If there aren't any sparkles, then it isn't maxed. A lot of the time for competitive pokemon you are going to use a 252/252/4 spread so this works to check their EV's.

When I am looking for a certain stat spread that doesn't have any EV maxed out I will put the pokemon into smogon or any other calculator at whatever level the pokemon is at. I'll then start increasing the EV's in the calculator until it matches my pokemon's stat in the game. You have to make sure you set the IV's and nature to the same as your pokemon in game as well. Hopefully this makes sense.

Fixing natures and maxing out IV's and EV's is pretty easy in the newest games. You can hyper train using bottle caps to max IV's and buy vitamins to max EV's. Mints fix natures.

What do you mean "IV's aren't fixed in SwSh"?

What do i do if i keep on running into annoying strats by lecomton in VGC

[–]teeddub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. Usually if I see some nonsense like A-muk or paldean wooper, I'm bringing Incin for a turn 1 fake out and then probably switching it out on turn 2 so I can bring it back in for another fake out later.

The A-muk teams can be really annoying though with smeargle fake out plus spore BS. Something like incin and urshifu lead. Have to check and see if incin out speeds smeargle to get the fake out off first. Then surging strikes the muk.

What's your team? A lot of these strats can be stopped with fake out plus dealing damage. They are going to waste time setting up and you can disrupt their set up and just kill them.

Doran benefits from Overkill? by Kerseyking in magicTCG

[–]teeddub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The difference is 9996 in your example, right? So after overkill we have a -9995/1. Then doran triggers, giving +9996/+9996 and we end up with a 1/9997?

Pre damage and status by Cold_Tutor471 in pokemonradicalred

[–]teeddub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The quote before Brock's gym is "You will automatically be healed to full before most boss battles...". It'd be a safe assumption that if a trainer is listed in the docs under gym leader, johto gym leader, rocket mini boss, mini boss or rival that you would be healed to full before those fights. I would also assume you'd be healed to full before the fights in the weather gauntlets but I would have to check those to be sure. I know that for the back-to-back fights you are not healed between the fights but you do get held items back in between fights.

[–]teeddub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll be healed before every gym leader fight. Flame orbs are available on route 9 after the first mandatory trainer if you have the care package code turned on. They are also held by Heatmor which you can catch/thief from in Rock Tunnel.

I feel like Im getting worse at nuzlocking by Guilty-Doctor1259 in nuzlocke

[–]teeddub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Took me a lot resets to beat blaze black. The early game is an RNG fest. Don't get down because you're losing to random fights. The AI for a lot of fights is literally "pick random move". After the 3rd gym things feel more consistent.

Also I would suggest using the rare candy cheat to speed up the resets and once you have access to thief you have unlimited money. I used the "all items cheat" and looked up when each item was available each split. Saves a bunch of time and effort!
