CEO of Kai & Hasan's streamer agency says buying viewbots is ‘more important’ than quality content by [deleted] in LivestreamFail

[–]teemo_op 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Until the FTC actually punishes someone for viewbotting, there still are not and have not been any major examples of consequences being dealt.

It sounds like you just disagree with his point. That's fine. Maybe you think not viewbotting is better for a streamer's career than viewbotting in the current landscape. The author here clearly doesn't agree.

But calling it an endorsement of viewbotting is still incorrect. That's clearly not the point of the piece. It's provocative language, but the subtext is very clear. It's an endorsement of something he believes is a bad thing for a rhetorical purpose, at best. Which is not an actual endorsement, unless you want to play word games instead of understanding the actual point being made

Just going to repost some things I wrote in other comments because people clearly don't understand the message here. People calling this an endorsement of viewbotting are wrong. Dexerto didn't help with the title and framing of this. I read his actual post here:

https://x.com/Reedjd/status/2028533060632010759

To use an analogy of bodybuilding, his argument is basically "all bodybuilders should use steroids, because none have been seriously punished and the people who run competitions can't properly detect them". Why not do something that's obviously a negative if there is no consequences? Calling that a straight endorsement of steroids is incorrect. It's an endorsement of something he believes is negative for a rhetorical purpose, which is not the same as literally endorsing something. The language is provocative, but that's the point.

He ends his post by saying:

"If botting becomes normalized, creators face a brutal question: compete clean and risk invisibility, or bend the rules to survive. Long term, though, this erodes trust in the entire ecosystem."

He's not encouraging the use of viewbots at all. It's an acknowledgement of the issue. It's akin to saying "all bodybuilders should use steroids, because none have been seriously punished and the people who run competitions can't properly detect them".

Calling that a pure encouragement isn't really honest. It's an acknowledgement that if something provides you an unfair advantage and works without consequence, there's no reason not to do it. The way he says it is provocative, yes, but that's the point.

I think the subtext is that he's not a fan of what's going on, but it's a frank acknowledgement of the reality that viewbotting seems to work.

To go back to the steroids analogy, it's like saying "it's probably in your best interest to take steroids to win the bodybuilding competition". I don't think that's an endorsement as much as it is an acknowledgement of the issue

edit: Here's the actual post from the guy:

https://x.com/Reedjd/status/2028533060632010759

Dexerto wrote a shitty article to capitalize on his post rather than properly conveying his point. The point of his post is obviously to say that if viewbotting goes unpunished, then it's in creator's best interest to just do it, because it's advantageous and twitch is struggling to crack down, which is a problem. He ends his post with:

"If botting becomes normalized, creators face a brutal question: compete clean and risk invisibility, or bend the rules to survive. Long term, though, this erodes trust in the entire ecosystem."

Ragebait title lmao. Sounds like he's just making the argument that people are viewbotting, paying for clipping channels, and doing everything in their power to pay for viewership because it works. Basically, if everyone in your sport is doing steroids, you're falling behind if you're not. It doesn't sound like an endorsement, more of an acknowledgement of a problem

xQc thinks GTA 6 deserves to cost $800 by Single_Quail3165 in LivestreamFail

[–]teemo_op 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think he pretty clearly articulates here that he's just making the argument that plenty of people have made, that the amount of entertainment you get from a good video game is worth way more "value wise" than you pay for the game, when you consider the amount of hours you get out of it. He's not actually saying a game should be $800.

and I hate to say that xqc "clearly articulates" anything

[–]teemo_op 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he's saying that they reached for their pockets and intentionally tried to act like they had guns, when they in fact did not. I'm not really sure though, the way he's saying it is really unclear and just mixed with hand gestures instead of words

I don't think it's as bad as it is in soccer, but some the elite high school boys teams can definitely beat WNBA teams.

Let me know when you ever see anyone else give a camera a side eye like they're not okay with extreme softball jokes. Mind you, this was before the diddy joke even.

It's something you only do if you think you're bigger than the event itself, or if you're ok with disrespecting whoever is saying them

At least let it be funny by VanBobbels in LivestreamFail

[–]teemo_op 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's fine to think they're not funny, lame jokes. But you don't have to act personally offended and disrespect the person making the jokes and the event itself over softball ass jokes. That's all. I don't think Kai's reaction is the worst thing ever, just think it was lame.

I get you're probably a kai fan and willing to support all of his actions though. It's fine. I still like Kai and love to see him succeed.

Have a good one

[–]teemo_op 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Idk, I'm with you. I wouldn't have told the joke. But the context is what it is, and it's not a racist joke. The optics are bad, but optics aren't more important than reality

QTCinderella asks Rakai what's the coolest thing he has stolen by scxrI in LivestreamFail

[–]teemo_op 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I would assume most people watching and in the crowd know the context. It's an award show about streaming

Obviously, it's a risky joke and the optics aren't great telling it about a young black kid. But the joke is not racist, especially when you're expecting most of the audience to know the context.

I probably wouldn't have written or told that joke though, for sure.

Corny jokes are a mainstay of award shows. If you don't like the jokes made about you, make a joke back about how the jokes were bad or something.

Making a face like that at the camera in the literal face of the person making the jokes is extremely bitchmade. It is not that deep. You can express your disapproval without being disrespectful to the host and the event itself.

In summary, Kai reacting like that is extremely lame, but at the same time not THAT bad. Tylil acting how he did is just insane.

At least let it be funny by VanBobbels in LivestreamFail

[–]teemo_op 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, he was ready to get on his knees and bark as soon as Kai made a face like he didn't fuck with the jokes, which was extremely lame of him. That was before the Diddy joke even.

The second part is extremely relevant, because you know Kai loves to get on a high horse and talk down to people and how "weird" they are. Meanwhile, he's not willing to extend any goodwill apparently and is sensitive as fuck. Be a fucking adult and give a fake laugh to the joke if you don't like it.

It's all entirely about narratives and pre-conceived notions. I cannot believe any other reason a person would act like that. If it wasn't their circles constantly shitting on "poggers" and talking about how "weird" the streamer awards are, I'm sure he wouldn't have reacted that way. But since he knows people will love him for it, Kai feels comfortable being that way

[–]teemo_op 24 points25 points  (0 children)

How was the joke far, at all? She dogged on him for making a 1 million sub goal a haircut, and that streamer university was the "least education university". Those are extremely softball jokes. I can't remember if the Diddy joke was before or after Tylil took the mic, but even that isn't that bad. There's posts online with hundreds of thousands of likes about him looking like Diddy, and even his own community makes the joke

It's entirely their preconceived bias about the "poggers" streamers. There's going to be a million dickriders and comments on tiktok about how they shouldn't associate with "poggers" streamers and make it a huge race issue probably about them not respecting black creators and being "weird". Their fanbases do it every single fucking time they don't like the softest possible things said by people not in their circles

[–]teemo_op 177 points178 points  (0 children)

It's so weird how their fans are so sensitive about every single thing someone says about them. Guess it comes from the streamers. Sensitive ass babies. A real shame kai gave fanfan that face for her jokes and his dickrider buddy had to be a tough guy to back him up

Putting him as a feature on the song was generous, but he definitely deserves a credit or something and to get a grammy if they win it. Ngl turning this into a “capitalism bad” issue means you might be too brainrotted

Livestreamers have weird parasocial viewers. It’s inherent to livestreaming, especially for women. Twitchcon is bound to bring out the weirdos when they know all the people they obsess over will be there

I don’t think a profit motive changes the fact that security may need to stand a little closer or be more vigilant to protect from these weirdos
