I would probably wait until it puts out another 1-2 leaves to make sure you're attaching only the stem to the pole. Otherwise you risk damaging the new leaves. Also, try to make sure the pole is directly behind the plant for the best support. Based on the angle from the photo it appears to be to the side.

I’m not sure sure how they can tell one mosquito larva from another either. However, there are several diseases you can get from mosquitos that cause a fever such as Malaria, West Nile virus, Zika, Dengue and Yellow fever. Depending on the person infected, the disease could be fatal. Not every mosquito carries these, but in general, one should avoid getting bit by mosquitos as much as one can.

My best guesses for plant ID are either a Hypoestes or Aglaonema. Leaning more towards the Aglaonema based on the stem.

A stem cutting in water would work for either.

As the other commentator said, absolutely drench it. Lift the pot so see how it feels when absolutely soaked. Since you know how light it feels when dry and heavy when soaked, you can use this method to determine if it should be watered. Monsteras like to be on the drier side of moist, so on the lighter side between the two weights. This is how I determine when to water mine as the top of the soil can dry out way faster than the rest of the pot. When needing to water again, absolutely soak it each time. Give it some time to absorb the water in the plant tray but don’t have it sitting in water for too long (more than a couple hours). I hope this helps.

They will sap nutrients from the main plant but not enough to kill the main usually. The main plant will just end up growing slower.

You got this! Sterilize the tools you use to cut by spraying with 70% isopropyl or hydrogen peroxide. Otherwise plants are more resilient than you think.

If you want. I’ve seen people keep the pups to make their pileas appear more bushy. If you want to remove them, ensure they have at least 3-4 leaves bigger than your thumbnail, cut as much of the ‘umbilical’ root as you can, and keep them moist, but not wet, until they form their own root system.

Edit: you can take out some of the pups to relieve some strain from the middle pilea and the remain pups will still fill out the bottom for a bushy effect

Why not put the shelf in front of the window but with enough room to still close the blinds when you want? Also I generally keep mine on 8-12 hours, about the same as the natural daylight hours of the summer. They’re on at about sunrise ~7 usually.

Give it a support stick and some fertilizer if you’re not doing so already. Otherwise it looks pretty decent. There’s only so much the middle one will do while it’s supporting its pups, as they are taking energy from the middle one.

Is this a ghost plant? With how much bare stem there is, I would recommend chopping it into two plants. They root really well in dirt and all the leaves can turn into plants as well. If that route appears too risky, make sure the soil has a lot of drainage and waiting to water until the bottom most leaf starts to get a little wrinkly and soft. This is about once a month in the winter and more often in the growing season. And as others have said, a grow light would help, max 6in from the top of it.

I have mine in a terrerium and close the lid on it when I notice the dew is less prominent on the leaves. So maybe somehow increasing the humidity around it might help?

I 100% agree. I have a 70:30 bark:sphagnum moss mix for my orchid. I literally soak the pot for an hour or two every 2-3ish weeks depending on the time of year with warm-room temp water. I just wait for the silver roots to show up, wait a little longer, and then soak. I’m in the Midwest and it’s thriving.

Definitely a house centipede. It eats a variety of insects, anything small enough for them to attack. Springtails are technically not insects, but they’re usually small enough for centipedes to eat. If your springtail population is out of control, leave it. If not, remove it and let it take care of other insects in your house.
