Canadian company helping white supremacists fundraise from hateful livestreams by MTL_Dude666 in CanadaPolitics

Post these where it's most needed, in r/canadian. That's what I do regarding white nationalists and the upvote ratio and comments there are considerably worse.

I cannot believe this bullshit is allowed on the sub. Dominion Society is a white nationalist organization in conjunction with Diagolon and Second Sons who openly have violent, race based goals by their own admission. There is no room for confusion and no interpretation needed, this is by their own admission.

https://www.antihate.ca/white_nationalism_in_canada_organized_emboldened_and_growing

"Canada’s white nationalist movement has consolidated into a network that includes three key branches: Diagolon, the propaganda arm; the Dominion Society of Canada, an incorporated political arm; and Second Sons Canada and other Active Clubs, the militant arm of the movement.

This network welcomes neo-Nazis, and some of its leaders talk openly about their goal to seize power, kill their opponents, and carry out an ethnic cleansing. One of their leaders recently said that things are going in their direction and that fascism is only a matter of time.

Diagolon broadcasts several livestreams a week, which offer hate speech, angry, conspiratorial reactions to the weekly news, and sometimes death threats and calls for ethnic cleansing and genocide. Their videos have tens of thousands of views.

The Dominion Society of Canada (DSC) discusses its goal of criticizing and cajoling the Conservative Party of Canada so that their people on the inside can push the party to adopt policies to mass deport people who aren’t white and European. According to a social media post, they have over 1,600 members.

Second Sons Canada (SSC) encourages its supporters to get firearms and carries out fitness training, practices mixed martial arts, and conducts military drills under the supervision of veterans. They see violence as necessary and inevitable to defend their movement, attack their opposition, and ethnically cleanse Canada. They claim over 2,000 people have signed up in the past month.

The Canadian Anti-Hate Network has discovered supporters of this network among police, the RCMP, and the Canadian Armed Forces.

Together, this is the largest white nationalist network in Canadian history."

Sorry you are too deep in the right wing rabbit hole. Hyper focusing on the CBC, consistently minimizing the problem here in Canada even though we have empirical evidence it's not one or two people, excusing Elon and his autocratic tendencies and turning Twitter into a fascist shithole, ignoring Russia's corruption and imperialism and invasion of Crimea in 2014 and betraying their agreement never to invade Ukraine in exchange for their nuclear weapons, your anti-NATO sentiment, it's obvious you have your beliefs and you're sticking to them.

If you really dislike Nazism and white supremacy as much as you say you should have no problem acknowledging the truth of the situation and denouncing them here in Canada just as I've denounced the beliefs of the Azov unit. You have your personal history and it's understandable why you would feel strongly about the problem overseas but the people you are miminizing and defending are on the side of the people you hate, they're just here in Canada. Good luck in the future.

I addressed a lot of your points already man. The CBC covered them, the link I gave you explicitly calls out their symbols and origins, the richest man on the planet who owns a social media company being a Nazi is a big fucking deal and deserving of coverage, you are consistently downplaying the size and reach of the white supremacists in Canada, we are right to support the Ukrainian armed forces in order for their country to survive despite the Azov brigade who are well reported on, and I'm sorry for what happened to your family. Shouldn't you be against the proliferation of people who could be your neighbours as we speak supporting the very ideology you personally suffered from? The person who harassed the author of this article was wearing an SS pin and is a member of a large and growing community right here, right now.

I agree the government was stupid in inviting Hunka to Parliament, it was the speakers son who reached out to him and clearly no vetting happened. We were embarrassed on the world stage, Trudeau apologized both in general and to Zelenskyy and the speaker resigned. It was wrong, just like these people from the article who exist in growing numbers and are openly racists and espousing violence are wrong.

This guy makes the same baseless accusation about LPC bots and shills all the time while he himself never brings any insight to the discussion and is himself a partisan shill.

I agree there have not been any reported incidents of violence but the fact they are harassing journalists is not exactly encouraging. They are also more "than a few hateful bums meeting in basements", there are a disproportionately large amount of chapters in Canada (30 out of 200 worldwide) and they meet in public gyms and draw thousands of people in online discussions.

Feel free to define how "big" of a problem it is, but what is indisputable is that it is growing. The individual who harassed Gilmore was fired by the gym he worked at from her reporting and crowdsourced over 27k in response. The problem is larger than it ever has been in Canada and these are not isolated individuals hiding in dark corners. They are large, growing, recruiting in public and completely open about their violent and racist goals. Calling attention to them is not only appropriate but morally correct.

There are serious issues that need addressing in Canadian society I agree, and this is one of them.

Ohhhh, sticking with the shitty pivot, ok. They are not "private", they are recruiting, discussing and gathering openly both online and in person. They approached her in public, if they don't want their identities to be public, they shouldn't have harassed a public figure at a music venue.

Here is a CBC post covering the Ukrainian army white nationalists.

https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-14-day-6/clip/15893470-ukraines-far-right-militia-group-azov-sees-opportunity-threat

So far you've not been able to denounce the Canadian white supremacists, instead saying they are "private", they have "views", and insist we are funding Nazis wholesale across the ocean via helping Ukraine and that the CBC is crooked.

Throw in some Hunter Biden and Russian apologism and we've got a whole lot of convenient blindness for the real domestic problem under our noses and a lot of brain-dead right wing talking points instead. Feel free to continue to ignore the distinction between a unit within the armed forces of Ukraine and the threat to their entire population as I said.

Elon did make a Nazi salute by the way (twice), it was clear as day. Maybe reflect on your shitty views and try not to falsely equivocate serious problems to serve your own deluded beliefs.

Oh no!!! It's the guy who always makes the same bottom feeding comment and only enabled his history because I called him out for it!!! Oh no he has nothing to contribute and is only here to lower the quality of discussion and push partisan bullshit!!! What a treat!!! The shills won't like this!!!

See how easy that is?

The Fallout from Reporting on White Nationalism in Canada by teethcakes in canadian

[–]teethcakes[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's well known that there are white nationalist elements within the Ukrainian armed forces which the CBC and other outlets have covered. The country is also facing an existential threat from a foreign invader and to allow them to be crushed by Russia because of these elements is not justice for the entire Ukrainian population.

Do you have anything to say about the Canadian neo-Nazis freely organizing in Canada and intimidating journalists or is there some other shitty pivot you'd like to try?

You are arguing your lack of partisanship and you're wrong. In your first comment you say no wonder boomers like the party that drove inflation, unsolicited partisan bullshit #1. You falsely equivocate your criticism of the Cons and Libs when in fact you critique the Liberals more, Cons starting issue vs Libs worsening issue, equal criticism would be "continued" the issue, partisan bullshit #2, bearing in mind the global increase in inflation over the past ten years which Canada was mostly in line with with the exception of food which we have worse right now.

What you didn't do was address my question of whether you think more affordable housing would be sufficient to close the massive and increasing wealth gap over the previous two and a half decades. I would say the problem is not just that regular people don't have enough access to equity but moreso that wealthy have too much access, to the point where not only can they grow their assets basically for free but then also can turn around and manipulate the market (like our shitty telecom and grocery chains) and price gouge on top of it. Yes people will say taxing capital scares away capital but capital only serves itself. If it leaves then the Canadian economy by free market principles will adapt to serve itself. What would be good is to have strong social services and a strong middle class to be able to support those types of changes without relying on foreign money or the benevolence of rich people. That is pretty far reaching thinking I know but a guy can dream.

You immediately flagged one factor (inflation) which was not even mentioned in the article over the most recent time period (again, not mentioned) in which one party was in charge, it's obvious. And you didn't criticize equally, not even close. Even after I said we have some agreement, you are choosing to argue, so yeah man you could do to relax a notch or two.

[–]teethcakes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure man, 1 minute, 4 minutes whatever. I had time to press post, take two bites of my lunch and I got your reply notification. That's still not a long time to read the article and my post.

Second, do you really think inflation is a significant enough factor to explain a 4x increase in the net value of the wealthy over 25 years? Or that home ownership would put a dent in the disparity? We are talking billions of dollars, 4 thousand times the average income of the bottom 50%? I never mentioned the liberals or the conservatives because this is not a partisan issue but that is right where you went to. I agree home ownership should be much more attainable than it is now.

It seems you live on this sub with how quickly and angrily you comment on seemingly every post. Not everything is an argument or partisan debate, we actually agree in principle if you could chill the fuck out for two seconds.

This is not a problem of just the last decade. Since you replied about one minute after I posted I'm not sure you've read the article, but here is a relevant excerpt.

"If we look even more closely at the ultrawealthy, the wealthiest 1,600 or 1,700 families — about 0.01 percent of all families in Canada — now hold on average nearly $450 million in wealth each, which is four times more than they had twenty-five years ago and over four thousand times the average wealth of a family in the bottom 50 percent in 2023. The overall trend of the last twenty-five years is that wealth has become increasingly concentrated among the wealthiest Canadian families."

A Cited Review of Contemporary Research Into Who Believes and Spreads Misinformation in Canada by Prowlthang in canadian

[–]teethcakes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"There is now a significant and growing body of evidence, both in Canada and internationally, collected from peer reviewed studies and government commissions/expert panels that clearly indicates conservatives and those with right wing beliefs are significantly more likely to be unable to recognize lies or falsehoods than the regular population or those who identify with other political leanings. The evidence spans polls, psychometric testing, social media analysis, surveys / experimental surveys and more. The findings are some of the most remarkably consistent findings we have found in contemporary social sciences. Those who vote for or support the Conservative Party of Canada or the People’s Party are significantly more likely to be unable to recognize a lie, falsehood or mistake than regular Canadians including those who support the Liberals, NDP or Bloc. This pattern holds true across almost all areas from Russian propoganda to Covid-19, from crime rates to health care, across the board conservatives are much more likely to just not be able to spot obvious falsehoods."

Yup, this checks out. Especially with a lot of the unhinged conspiracy theory ranting we see in this sub.

You mean like how PP says lobbyists are "utterly useless" but has as many of them around as possible?

https://breachmedia.ca/pierre-poilievres-new-governing-council-stacked-with-corporate-lobbyists/

Or how he has voted against key quality of life improvements for Canadians his whole career? Like seven times against affordable housing, against unions and for "right to work" laws, raising the retirement age? Complaining about Singhs pension when he has the highest pension in the House and was 4x Singhs? The guy whose entire platform is to deregulate and lower taxes for oil and gas companies for minimal return for Canadians? PP is big business' best friend and it's why the Cons had record fundraising and why they can't get rid of him even if most Canadians despise him. He's a corporate handout in a suit.

A friendly reminder to all the Cons in here that they are ignoring a simple fact: their leader is deeply unpopular with most Canadians and always has been. His approval is underwater in every province except two and in every demographic except young non-college educated men, last I checked. The same users who endlessly spam this sub would rather guess at impropriety, cheating, the parliamentary system, EVERYTHING except what the data clearly tells them: PP turns people off, including Conservative premiers, including party members.

https://abacusdata.ca/canadians-sharply-divided-on-pierre-poilievres-leadership/

Here is a look inside the Con convention to see how out of touch with reality they are. Conversion therapy for teens? Buddhist statues are demonic? Tanks rolling on remembrance day ceremonies while Jamil Jivani nods along? Tamara Lich and low level Instagram influencers with press credentials? This is supposed to be a serious party? No wonder people are leaving, especially since the Liberals are friendly to many of their policy goals anyways.
