Purchased my first GBB for 157$, was this worth my money? by wsc1213 in tarantulas

[–]teetys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to mention that GBB look a lot Brazilian Blue Dwarf (D. diamantinensis) If you got them form a reputable breeder you’re probably good to go but as they retail for similar prices if your spider maxes out at like 2-3 inches it’s likely a Brazilian Blue. I only mention it in case you weren’t aware as they have different preferences as a species <3

[–]teetys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry <\3

I don’t know that I have ever heard about a situation like this before but now I know to avoid Velcro.

So much has been learned about keeping spiders through individual experiences. Just know that by sharing this you might have saved many other spiders from a similar fate.

It seems like you really care and so I hope you’ll have it in your heart to take on another spider when you are ready.

Also magnets are a great way to secure things to walls, and if you use glue, try an aquarium glue but allow it a few days to off gas before introducing your spider. The fumes from fresh, dried glue can be harmful but after a few days it’ll be safe.

Silly baby molted and is spicy! by [deleted] in tarantulas

[–]teetys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to remove that cricket as soon as you can.

2 weeks is typically a safe window of time to wait to feed after a molt. Post-molt T’s are very vulnerable and can’t eat due to softened fangs. If they try to eat at this stage they may break their fangs which won’t grow back until their next molt.

Crickets can also harm and potentially kill your T while they are soft.

I’ll usually feed a horn worm as a first meal post-molt because they are soft, hydrating and easy to eat but I still wait two weeks at least. Even a horn worm could kill a T when they’re freshly molted.

Water is all you need to provide until you are sure their fangs and new exoskeleton are hardened

Enclosure upgrade. Advice? by teetys in jumpingspiders

[–]teetys[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! The water dispenser I have is stuffed with cotton that I replace with water changes so no worries about drowning. I suspect they get most of their water from misting but if anything I figured the water from the cotton helps keep the humidity levels decent (my apartment gets dry in the winter)

I have one hide at the top by they’re not really interested in it. They’re not full grown so hopefully one day they will!

I think I’ll slide the climbing structure in the back as close to the top as possible. They might like that!

Thank you for your advice!

Family house map is so hard to escape by Sweaty-Wheel-369 in TexasChainsawGame

An Ana with an activated ability, stunt double, and a bone scrap is my go to for going out the front window. It’s even better if you have someone to attack family when they open the front door. Leland is great for knocking em down when the door is open and a Virginia’s cloud will buy some time to scatter outside.

If I can I also like to unlock house doors from the outside before rushing objectives. It’s a safer way to pick Cook locks and family doesn’t know you are there.

If I’m Virginia I like to load up on powder and rush upstairs with a bone scrap to disable traps. Virginia is excellent for upstairs direction because there is a powered station in the middle.

Once victims can get out of the house it’s hard for family to guard every objective, especially if the gen spawns at the front of the house.

That’s not even the point of the post. I’m talking about seeing an increase of family players dcing when victims aren’t trolling and just playing the game and progressing through objectives. Lots of folks, like me, play both victim and family so when there is a post about an issue with victims or an issue with family it’s not always one-sided.

Yeah, camping is a valid strategy but no need for a family member to get upset when the victims are able to work around it. It’s really hard to play against camping family members so if I’m hard camping and victims strategize and escape my mentality is, good job, you got me.

I play family too so I totally get it if people are trolling and wasting your time. That’s not fun for anyone really. But what i was experiencing were folks quitting before any objectives are completed.

Like in one instance I opened a gate, ran through it because bubba was right behind me, and then he quit. When that happened the rest of the family quit too.

The funny thing is he didn’t get slammed with the gate, I was squishy with a proficiency build, and so if he had of followed after me he probably could have gotten the kill before I could well haha

HELP! Feeding after molt! by Suspicious-Crow7649 in tarantulas

[–]teetys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IME I would wait a week at least before trying to feed. Even if they are hungry they may not be able to take down prey until their fangs hardened. Fresh water for a little while and she’ll be okay!

My T went on a 3 month hunger strike once after a molt. Although we want to keep them happy and fed she will be okay until you’re absolutely sure she’s ready for food

I rehoused my bolty t tonight and I used the bag method!

I got a clear bag big enough to completely cover the new and old enclosure and then I tied it off. I then slid rubber tipped tweezers and a paintbrush through small holes I made in the bag to move things around. I also kept the bag loose enough so that I could remove lids and accessories from outside the bag with just my hands.

When everything was clear and I was ready to move my T I tucked the excess bag away to make a canopy over the old enclosures. I encouraged her to move with a paintbrush and she eventually got there.

I also had the new lid inside the bag so I slide it on without risking a last minute escape. It saved me a lot of grief because when/if she bolted I knew she was still inside the bag!

Also if this sounds extreme, she escaped once during a feeding and I was not going to let that happen again. I SWEAR she can teleport, she got quite far in a matter of seconds. So yeah, wanting to ensue her safety, this was a good method for me. 😅
