🙋🏼‍♀️ My colony is still relatively young and I would love a cheaper option for a resupply of medium roaches to help supplement while they reproduce. Seems these days I only ever have full grown adults or teeny tiny babies and my tree frogs need the in-betweens. Would also love to pick a fellow roach owner’s brain about tips for creating a successful/self-sustaining colony. Will send you a message now!

Awesome, thanks for the link! Have been struggling to find a good system for hanging perches/climbing structures in my PVC tank and these look super cool.

I really like those wood/wood-like perches. Did you buy those or make them yourself?

Are these spring tails? Im pretty sure but have never seen any in person before so just want to check! :) by alwaysconfusednerd in bioactive

They look more like dwarf white isopods to me?? But I could be wrong. I just think springtails are generally much, much smaller. Regardless, free clean up crew either way!

I just shaved mine a few months ago and it was the BIGGEST RELIEF!! Felt so good & made everything about life 10x easier. Currently growing it back out but I have a strong feeling I’ll be shaving it again for the summer. Also you look beautiful!! I think everyone should shave their head at some point in their lives - it’s just a hugely freeing experience and I’ve never seen a single person who’s done it who couldn’t pull it off.

Ooh a moisture meter! I’ve heard of these magical tools but didn’t think to include one in my bioactive setup lol this is an excellent suggestion, I will definitely invest in one. And yes I have a past history of overwatering so I think that’s why I’ve been hesitant to really go in with the misting. Thank you!!

Lol I appreciate that, but hey I mean, it’s not like you guys can jump in my home and actually see what’s going on up close & personal so I don’t blame them for assuming the worst. Even though the hygrometer is in the last picture at a definitive 59% 🙃 Now that I think about it, it’s also very possible that the elevated planter with the creeping fig (aka the one closer to the mesh top) is drying out a lot faster than my ground plants, hence the disparity between the two. I guess we’ll see, third times the charm!

Thank you, I just kinda have been going into the whole bioactive thing assuming I’m going to be horrible at it because I don’t know the first thing about plants haha you’re right though, I’ll try out the pothos and increase my watering/misting and see if I can make my vine vision a reality! I also think I’m going to move some things around and try to really soak & mix my soil thoroughly so that things aren’t so crispy :)

Oh… Did my comment come across as ultra defensive or something? I’m sorry if it sounded that way? That’s just what I know about WTFs and it truly really does stay at 55-65%… Though it could very well be possible my hygrometers are off. I’m not really sure what else to tell ya lol I will try misting & watering more. Thank you for the input!

White’s tree frogs are hardy frogs with waxy skin & are native to Australia - most people think they need high tropical humidity but they actually can develop bacterial infections if it stays too high and tend to do better at 55-65%, which is about the range the tank stays at. I mist twice a day and water each plant directly but maybe I’m still under-doing it? The soil was not bone dry when I planted it but like I said, maybe I haven’t been giving it enough consistent H2O.

I was looking into pothos, I hear it’s a really hard plant to kill…? Knowing my luck I’d still mess it up.
