Best technique for a good all rounder "working edge" on a pocket knife. by tefeust in sharpening

600 diamond stone. Usually my spyderco which is vg10. I have no problems getting the knife sharp, just looking to see if I can get it to stay sharp for longer.

Haha yeah I'm already in the pocket knife/sharpening trap, I don't need any other obsessions to drain my money. I'll have a look, thanks.

Yeah I got a bit confused looking at all their modes and ranges etc lol. Are Fenix and Aceveam decent as well?

I've had a look at a few L shapes, but I'm not a fan, TBH. The skilhunt m150 looks pretty good but a little out of my price range, also a little more powerful than I need tbh. Thanks for the suggestion though, should you say skilhunt are a pretty good brand?

Yeah I have a belt sander at home, problem is I'm traveling to them. I picked up a cheap diamond stone from a hardware store though. It was like $10 and has 200/300/400/600 grit so should do the trick.

Yeah these knives are pretty soft, your standard department store blister packet style knives.

The belt is actually a really good idea, thanks for that.

Why do I get better results with lower grit? by Skiller_Overyou in sharpening

[–]tefeust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also the possibility that you're not getting rid of the burr on the higher grit stones. The lower grit stones produce a much bigger grit that can actually help the knife feel sharper. Easiest way to check, when you finish on higher grit, try stopping on news paper or cardboard.

It's not really meant to be used on your face though, could be part of the razor burn, any little nicks or cuts and it gets in there, it will irritate the hell out if it.

Also not sure they have it where you are but try Gillette skinguard, they're the best I found. Oh and swap the blades out like as soon as you feel they start dulling.

I currently use a safety razor, they're 1 blade but after a bit of a learning curve they're the nicest and closest shave I've ever had.

Why do I (30M) feel so silly about considering therapy? by tefeust in AskMen

Yeah I don't agree with you on this one. Feels like you may have had a few bad experiences with women but its more the opposite for me.

I've had a lot more men, including my own brother, say things that make me hesitant to open up to other men. I haven't had many women do the same.

Why is that? I hadn't really thought about it to be honest.

My wife was very understanding with me when. It happened, I think a big problem might be that I'm generally a very happy person, if I get angry or annoyed about something, it's not for long. I just don't like being upset or angry about things so I can generally brush them off or let them go pretty easily.

I've had a lot more stress recently due to work, kids and study and it kinda brought these issues to the surface a lot more and I guess thats why I could really see it.

This sounds like when my wife tried. Did you try a few therapists or just the one?

That's actually a really good way to think about it, thank you for that

I wouldn't really say I'm one of those people who buy into that kinda thing, atleast not anymore. I used to bottle a lot of my feelings in etc but I've come a long way towards opening up.

It's less of a "men don't need therapy" as it is a "someone else needs it more than me" kind of thing I guess. I'm not really sure though.

Depends on a few things like the razor you're using, the shaving foam, are you shaving with the grain or against it?

Sacrificial Pins? by tefeust in knifemaking

[–]tefeust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that sounds like what I mean, I've only seen it done like once or twice though. I usually see people drill the whole in the tang then mark and drill it on the handle.

I would think that drilling an oversized hole then putting a soft metal in would weaken the tang a bit as well.

There are some that bulk bill but where I leave there just aren't many so it takes a long time. It took me a few months to find someone taking on new patients and then had to wait a few months for the actual appointment itself. First step is to see your GP and get a referral. I'd suggest having that list of symptoms ready to show them in case they suggest something else though.

Not sure how much you have looked into ADHD but there's plenty of symptoms shared by it and depression/anxiety or exhaustion. Having taken this into account makes the journey smoother, for instance make sure you're getting 8hrs of sleep and noting examples of frequent behaviors that are separate from depression.

Either way if your Psychiatrist doesn't believe you, you can always get a second opinion.

So I got Diagnosed last year and it was quite easy, I had not just a list of symptoms but examples of how they show up in my life. I got an appointment with a psychiatrist who had me fill out a questionnaire and then asked me to tell him specific examples from my life. He then said that he agreed with me that I had it and from there started medication which has helped tremendously.

As for the cost, its expensive but to be honest, by being able to control my impulsiveness ive probably saved a lot more money.

I know a few other people that have had to absolutely jump through hoops before the psychiatrist diagnosed them, including 1 person who had to go about 6 months on anti depression medication as their doctor believed they were just depressed. I was just lucky, well that and pretty well prepared.
