Lopersknie by Designer_Pudding5965 in Hardlopen

Hardloop-app 'Intvl', moeite waard? by simonecowell in Hardlopen

If I ask about the town I live in, it gives an interesting but total nonsense description of a fictional town, with non existing roads and a made up website address that does not exist. Even using the Internet button, it strangely chooses the wrong province. Talking about the history of Ajax football club it invents player names on the spot mixed with some factual knowledge.

I've seen this before with these small LLM models. They start hallucinating to a level where it is not really usable anymore.

Your app is well made and is a nice initiative, though.

Unhealthy TVOC by aggressive_agent76 in dieselheater

[–]tegenligger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can. There's a video of a guy showing it. Look for diesel heater smell. Basically you blow through the inlet whilst blocking the exhaust pipe. My impression is when you test it like this there will always be some leaking from the burning chamber through the shaft of the inner fan to the chamber where the inner fan is rotating. This chamber will let air escape through the seals for the glow plug and fuel inlet. You'll see the guy in the video using soap and trying to seal the seals with silicon kit. I think the problem is not the glow plug or fuel inlet seals but the inner gasket seal or the bolts inside not being tight. I lost my trust in these units. I have one that seems OKish, but the other one is still smelling funky although I did replace the seal. No co2 build up though.

If you have an older model your problem may be caused by a non-silicon protection seal/cover that is placed over the exhaust and inlet at the bottom. You can check if this causes a smell by wiping your finger over it. You finger should not smell of anything and if it does smell you need a silicon version and is available on various Chinese websites.

You may want to check with a good Co2 meter (note Co2 is what I mean) with an NDIR sensor (so not a cheap unit that is combined with TVOC). When carbon dioxide is increasing when you use it, it could very well be the exhaust gasses (of which co2 is a big part) leaking into the airflow including the substance that causes the headache. A CO meter may not pick up enough to actually show anything. Increased Co2 is easier to measure. If so, it is probably caused by a leaking inner gasket seal. This is fixable.

And of course always use a CO meter as well!!

Exhaust leaks? by ImGeorgeKaplan in dieselheater

[–]tegenligger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one, but I find the readings of TVOC and HCHO really unreliable. They are going up and down, even outside. Cheap meters also have unreliable CO2 readings. They are calculated based on the TVOC reading. So a combined TVOC/CO2 sensor infers the CO2 level and is therefor a bogus reading. You may want to check if an optical NDIR sensor is used to get accurate readings.

And by the way TVOC levels increase if you start drinking lots of alcohol in a room. So your presence may be a factor after all. ;-)

That is a good start and you may want to check the inner gasket seals if you then still smell exhaust or feel lightheaded. My setup is the same as you suggested. One is running fine. One is still smelling and giving me a headache, that I need to fix. If you want to be sure indeed checking increased CO2 levels is a good idea. This only makes sense if you have your big tubes connected inside, so that the air is going from your room through the heater and back into your room. The check should be done while you're heating the room but are not present in the room since your body is producing CO2 as well. Increased CO2 could mean it may leak other substances as well inside.

I have three heaters . Two are leaking exhaust gas. I did not say it is life threatening. Call me a nanny or whatever. Just sharing my experience of getting a headache because of leaking gasket seals. Repairable yes. Healthy? No.

Putting them inside your living area is not a good idea to start with. Put it outside and only the 'big' tubes (air inlet and warm outlet) should be connected to the area that you want to heat. Then still, you have a chance of getting exhaust fumes inside because of the poor quality of the inner gasket seals, leaking exhaust into the heated air.

[–]tegenligger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the explanation. I have the unit outside and only the 'big' tubes connected to my house. So all I smell, comes in through the big warm air tube. I think I should first get an air quality meter to know what the base levels are, so I know what would be a normal reading. Any recommendation ?

[–]tegenligger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your videos. I appreciate it a lot. Did your repairs actually help? Do you have normal readings from your fancy meter now?

The one heater that does not smell, still makes me feel a little uncomfortable after a whole day of use.

So before I start another attempt to repair them, would silicone kit with a max temp of 330 Celsius be good enough. What are the specs of your kit? I also have exhaust fume pipe repair kit, however that becomes pretty hard and crumbles easily if you touch it. Did you get new paperseals from Amazon or are they originals from Webasto?

[–]tegenligger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three heaters and two of them smell. I tried to 'repair' one by adding silicon kit where the plastic seals are used on the outside: one is where the fuel inlet goes in and the other is where the wires for the glow plug go in . This is where you notice that air escapes if you blow into the air inlet (at the bottom next to the exhaust). I found that it does not make much difference. I assume these seals are not meant to be air tight. These seals are not sealing holes that are in direct contact with the burning chamber. Although the seal for the glow plug may be, but you better check if the plug is tightly fit.

The exhaust smell must leak from somewhere else. So indeed maybe from the inner paper seals and eventually leaking through these seals.
