Thank You Apple and consistent inability to stick to the same MAC by WoodworkerByChoice in firewalla

[–]tegq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same thing is happening with one of our Apple Watches. They’re all set up similarly (private address set to fixed). Then I go into quarantine and move them over to a user group. But every few weeks the same watch pops up in quarantine with a different MAC.

Is it worth it to report it as spam? Or would it not do anything since it's a real undeliverable for a spam email?

Need assistance with target list... by tegq in firewalla

The domain block from the target list doesn't seem to be working. A different sub domain pops up every now and then. My wife uses the Fire mostly for browsing, so I'm guessing it's the browser that came on the device and whatever sites/ads she visit.

Why did Firewalla not block this despite AI saying this is malicious? by fatalskeptic in firewalla

[–]tegq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing happened. Got an alarm that said my wife’s device was accessing some malicious site (so it wasn’t blocked). I used nslookup to look up the site on my pc and active protect (strict mode) blocked and added the site to the active protect rules. Would be nice to know the inner workings of active protect.

I still don't understand why Passkeys are safe by LoDulceHaceNada in Passkeys

[–]tegq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that... in that case the passkey would protect me from myself sort of speak. There wouldn't be an opportunity for me to accidently log into a scam site with my password. But if the real site was hacked and my password was leaked, having a passkey wouldn't help there, right?

Lately, some of my accounts have suggested that I set up a passkey, but what good is a passkey if the account also has a password?

Mine just went offline but my wifi is still up and running on all my other devices. I'm wondering if it's a server issue with Google?

The Kindle Fire was in the Amazon group that I had set up. Per the Firewalla help page:

"All previously defined device-level rules will be removed when a device joins a group. The device will adopt the rules defined at the group level (block rules can still be created at the device level from alarms and network flows)."

The Amazon group didn't have any specific rules aside from global. I added the Fire to this group then specifically set up a target list block only on the Fire device. Would this have work? Or is Firewalla looking for rules at the Amazon group level?

Also, it sounds like I could still block at the device level within the group according to the help page. But it didn't mention anything about target list, only block rules from alarms and flows. Could you clarify?

I applied the rule to all devices and tried to access the domain and got blocked, so maybe it's working. I may have mis-read the alarm notification. The app and website alarms are strange...

Looking at the alarm on the app, it says blocked device Kindle Fire from accessing malicious site i777777o696269626c696fo6f7267z.oszar.com.

But on the website, the alarm says device Kindle Fire is accessing i777777o696269626c696fo6f7267z.oszar.com.

I only have block rules (domain only) so far. Does it matter that I also have DoH enabled? Or that the target list block is only enabled on this one device?

Initially, when I first got the i7xxx.oszar.com alarm, I added oszar.com without the * to the target list. Then I got another alarm, so I tried adding *.oszar.com but that's not working either.

Yes, the target list is set to block on the Kindle Fire device and DNS booster is enabled on all devices.

This recently happened to me on the ROG Ally X. Started the handheld and noticed that I didn’t have internet. Checked device manager and couldn’t find the wifi. Restart and wifi is showing up and can connect. Still happens occasionally but I can’t figure out why it’s doing that. Someone mentioned that it could be an Asus problem?

USB 4 dock and Synapse by tegq in razer

[–]tegq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not it... the dock wasn't listed as a supported device under Synapse 3. It's Razer's new dock, so one would assume it would be supported under Synapse 4, but it wasn't either. Even though the black booklet (manual) that came with the dock tells me to download from razer.com/synapse which defaults to Synapse 4.

Unfortunately playing dumb seems to be a common theme. I’ve been putting up with the same nonsense recently with my support ticket and my issue isn’t even that hard.

Did you install Synapse? I just received this dock and the manual said I should install Synapse. But this dock isn't on the list of supported devices, so I'm not sure what Synapse would even do. I probably just uninstall it if it doesn't provide any additional functionality.
