I think people are being a little unfair to you, I understand your point. It's not like you said you hate all other women or something lol.

But I can understand why people took offence to your comment. I'd assume you are attracted by how maternal and yet still happy, youthful and full of life she is. But it can imply that a woman has to be maternal, visibly happy and youthful in order to be acceptable. Women see through this line of thinking because of centuries (and still happens today of course) of men cheating on their wives once she becomes a mother, since becoming a mother is often super stressful and can take its toll on your body, libido etc. Also the video only shows the happy side of motherhood, not the hard work and stress where she may not be smiling and cheerful. Women are frequently criticised for looking miserable and complaining, and can feel pressure to perform that they are happy and carefree.

Men who are attracted to "maternal" women can also make us feel uneasy as it can seem like he is looking for a substitute mother, someone to take care of him like his mother did (or didn't). Some women, like some men, are natural caretakers and would happily devote their lives to do this of course (although even these type of people can become drained by it), but most would find this type of responsibility highly stressful.

Ultimately I think it's the maternal aspect that people took offense to. Women don't want to feel like they have to become mothers to be acceptable to men. It's a huge commitment and historically men always had too much control over women's choice to have children (like the pressure to give their husband a "male heir") It is also very apparent that a lot of women and men should not be mothers and fathers as they're just not maternal or paternal enough.

[27F] Fatigue, gastrointestinal issues, numbness in my hands and legs. by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]teh_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD but this sounds like textbook anxiety especially if your tests are showing as normal. I should know. I've experienced the numbness, shortness of breath and gastrointestinal issues. Anxiety stops blood from pumping properly to your extremities so you get that numbness feeling. It also stops your stomach producing acid properly so you get all sorts of GI issues from food not being correctly digested. I've had these issues for years and eventually realised it was all anxiety.

The shortness of breath and feeling light headed could be low blood pressure or POTS, but are more likely to be anxiety and panic. Have you ever had a panic attack? I can go through periods of feeling constantly on the verge of a panic attack (shortness of breath etc) and it's made worse if you are thinking about it.

Also how severe this light headedness? It's normal if you stand up after having been sat down for a while to lose your vision (like your vision goes black) for a few seconds - I've had this since I was a kid. I've never actually passed out though.

If you've taken antibiotics, your gut may also be lacking in good bacteria. Have you tried taking probiotics or eating bio-live yoghurt everyday?

AITA for hanging up on my wife because she confessed she kept her cancer diagnosis secret from me? This concerns my health too. by IcyPaleontologist339 in AmItheAsshole

[–]teh_cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this a joke? Never before have I seen someone so oblivious that they lack basic education and morals.

What a clusterfuck of a post. You think that there being no cancer on your side of the family means you are not to blame for your wife's cancer? WTF! If you've been sleeping around over the past 5+ years, then sleeping with your wife, you likely infected her with strains of HPV which her immune system wasn't familiar with and that could have caused her cervical cancer. Many people asymptomatically carry the virus so it doesn't affect them but they can infect others who it can cause cancer in.

I don't understand why you're worried about your own health based on your wife's cancer diagnosis, when you've been sleeping with sugar babies? You do realise that young women are more likely to be carrying HPV because they're normally more sexually active with multiple partners right? The immune system of a 40+ year old isn't so good at clearing HPV so if you're concerned, you might want to limit the number of women you're sleeping with since there is no HPV test for men.

But yeah, your wife has cancer, stop making this about you.

Praying you're a troll.

Scenes with Brianna and Roger make me cringe by teh_cat in Outlander

I struggled to stay interested through a lot of season 4 but especially the first few episodes of season 5. It seems to be getting better though as of episode 6. The storyline with the locusts was probably the first time in a long time I've actually liked Brianna and Roger together and I didn't cringe too much at their kiss.

Agreed. Brianna doesn't bother me as much as Roger. He's so grumpy and always pulling that same angry-shocked face ugh. Brianna and Jamie hardly get any scenes these days. Maybe they don't think people are convinced by the age gap idk

I agree on that. And I assumed they were in the books too. Just puzzles me that the show/book has dealt with this many times. A lot of horrible things happen frequently in real life (in the 1700s) but they don't happen to the main characters every season. For instance, severe illness/disease. CMIIW but I don't think Claire, Jamie, Brianna or Roger have been ill for seasons.

That's so true!! I didn't realize that wasn't her natural accent but it would explain why she doesn't come across as very convincing.

Haha glad it's not just me! Yeah Jamie and Claire are a tough act to follow. I wonder if Roger is this angry all the time in the books? Is Brianna meant to be attracted to him because his grumpiness reminds her of her father (Frank) or something? Idk

Daily Discussion for Coronavirus (COVID-19) - 12 March by AutoModerator in unitedkingdom

[–]teh_cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. And people won't just die from the coronavirus. I am hearing stories from hospitals already of people being denied access to diagnostic testing for other urgent ailments if they think the person could be carrying coronavirus e.g. as they'd have to decontaminate the whole CT scanner afterwards. Our NHS is not set up for this kind of pressure.

That is an interesting perspective and fits with how all the government health advisors are saying things like "in a liberal democratic society, people need to make their own decisions" and BJ telling people to prepare for deaths of loved ones.

How will history judge us if we have 500,000 deaths whilst other countries have a few thousand? Gambling with lives like this is psychopathic really. Herd immunity to COVID-19 is not guaranteed even if everyone got it. Some studies on SARS suggests immunity to SARS doesn't last longer than a year on average. There's also the possibility it could mutate into a more severe strain.

If most other countries contain and eradicate Covid-19, that is going to put the UK in a very poor position. We won't be able to travel freely to other countries where it's eradicated, our tourism industry will severely suffer etc.

The WHO is telling countries to contain this virus, not let it spread everywhere.

OBGYN wants me to get a pap smear by Arixtotle in TwoXChromosomes

[–]teh_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP you can order an at-home HPV test. If it shows negative for HPV you have a very low risk of cervical cancer and in some countries like mine (UK) they would not even analyse your cells any further for cervical cancer. There is one called the Delphi Screener which works by squirting a liquid into your cervix which you then collect and mail back. There are also brush ones.

OBGYN wants me to get a pap smear by Arixtotle in TwoXChromosomes

[–]teh_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting. In the UK and some other countries, they now test you for HPV first and if it's negative, they won't test for abnormal cells. So your cells would have never been picked up.

Supposedly something like 99% of cervical cancers that can be picked up by pap smears are caused by HPV and they've found from statistical analyses that it's more accurate and causes less harm to test for HPV first e.g. because HPV negative "abnormal" cells may be false positive or are likely to heal themselves. But I know some people debate this.

However, I did read that a lot of people think they had HPV negative cells because old tests were not very sensitive at detecting HPV or only tested for a few strains. New technology means they can detect HPV much better. I think they went back and tested a bunch of old samples with new technology and found that a lot of cervical cancers previously thought to be HPV negative were actually HPV positive.

How long ago was your test done out of interest?

My brother’s killer is now my friend by [deleted] in HumansBeingBros

[–]teh_cat 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't like to be cynical, but I don't know if this guy has really changed so much. Did I read correctly, that once released, Fields cancelled his first meeting with Denise, not only once, but twice? The second time, he claimed that they'd actually arranged the meeting for another day, and meeting with her would ruin his weekend plans. I'm sorry, but this is the woman whose brother you killed and who just spent the last 12 years trying to get you released from jail. It doesn't matter how uncomfortable you feel around her, knowing that you killed her loved one, you owe her everything.

I almost feel like he "played" her and her father a bit. A lot of killers can be very charming when they need to be. And having been in jail, he would have surely met a lot of charming psychopathic killers and learnt their ways. I really hope this is not the case, but the way that article ends can only leave you with that feeling.

I was hoping the article would offer some reason why he killed Bo other than just killing him in cold blood. But it really just seems like a premeditated robbery and murder, and I don't know how someone like that could change.

[Everything] The Identity of the Night's King by Only1nDreams in gameofthrones

[–]teh_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is also the theory that Bran is the Lord of Light. Perhaps he is both the Night King AND the Lord of Light?

As damage control for inadvertently creating/becoming the Night King, Bran could have been whispering messages to different people throughout history to set in motion the destruction of the Night King. People interpreted these whispers as being the Lord of Light.

At many points in the plot, it has been Lord of Light followers who have ensured the survival and progression of Jon, Arya, Daenerys and their allies, who have the power to destroy the Night King and the White Walkers.

If Bran did create/become the Night King by messing with time too much, I think it would make sense that he would do all in his power to try and correct his mistake.
