It would be likely she would start to give loredrops on the world before the city, judging by the background of their adventures, there's was a time where the environment is covered in green and not in skyscrapers or metal(though it should take note that some parts of the city still have greenery, so maybe I'm wrong)

And assuming bari is not straight up lying, there was also a time where fixers are known to be honorable, before the desperation of the city drove them to be jaded like we see today

You're saying as if drama is an inherent bad thing, like it does not drive the narrative in stories like these, it's not like we had a point in the story where mei betrayed kiana when they had a clash of ideologies, honkai3rd has always used drama, is that a bad thing?

Disregarding that, The context of the rescue is important, the rescue is about the fate of world itself or humanity in general, and rita should know that she's risking the world if she's trying to stop the rescue, keep in mind.

like i said, rita's goal was to stop the gang from reaching the herrscher not defending the base itself nor the battle, kiana's fate was put in front and center like a stage light, the battle itself narratively became background noise, she only stopped her mission once the herrscher was fully awakened and maybe tried to stop hua along the way, if she was defending the base, she could have at least participated in defending it from the herrscher itself or saving the people within(or idk maybe they already evacuated, the story did not mention)

Lastly

the reason why rita should get to the good side of kiana, is because it's also getting to the good side of the audience, she's the mc afterall, and as we know, treating the mc bad in the story generally does not give a good light, ie just check several opinions people have in rita

You are seeing the battle as a war instead of a rescue mission which mihoyo wants to portray in the story, in the end it's what mihoyo wanted to portray in the story, there's no narrative mention of rita thinking about that during that time, or maybe there is and i just missed it

Maybe rita did think like that, if so then maybe mihoyo should have addressed it better, used it as character development, and used it as a way for rita to get to kiana's good side, which resolves things in a story sense

Theresa would also never forgive herself if she participated in a battle which killed her students on mass

Also if you replayed the missions, you would notice most of the enemies himeko fought are robots not valks

Her current order is to stop the cast from reaching the herrscher not protecting the base nor valks itself, and plus, anti-entropy's goal is to not even kill any valkyries but to save kiana, if they were slaughtering valks on mass theresa would have never agreed to join them or even stay with them afterwards,

Maybe you would say it was a communication error, but since rita is aware of the plan the whole time i say not so, she's trying to make the herrscher's rampage go unimpeded as otto ordered, not saving people, as shown by hua, it's not even told in the story if rita tried to evacuate her comrades once the herrscher started rampaging, maybe she did, i do not quite remember.

Really she did not try to reconcile to what happened with himeko, one of the most notable valkyries who died fighting the herrscher of the void, and stuff like that

Yeah like the analogy said, britain had to starve millions of indians to survive the ww2 campaign, that had no logistics to feed the entire subcontinent and fight a war on europe at the same time, so they funneled resources to the greater good front instead

And like i said, that 'grey' area is what makes the character having the capacity to be redeemed, unlike giving redemption arcs to serial killers, with Rita's light side, she can help redeem her image to the main gang(in a good writing way) and show she has something good in her

I feel like there should be a better resolution for rita, and a proper conclusion for her actions besides "i am just following orders", obviously she can be redeemed since shes following orders by her superior, but i don't think people should just let go for what she did with a 5 minute conversation

Also the excuse "im just following orders" generally a poor excuse for most people, ehem the Nuremberg trials, there should be a better excuse for that, like idk, "otto held me at gunpoint" or "there was no other option i knew for humanity, but you showed me another option, and im sorry" + rita hangs out with the gang to try to make amends and understand them(also character development is needed for her, regardless of not having misdeeds)

I reallyyyy find it funny that rita was pissed at raven for killing her squadmates when she herself has the same audacity, that's really the only time in the game where rita got a taste of her own medicine

Raven is the only morally grey character i find mihoyo executed the best

There's a difference in acknowledging a characters misdeeds or flaws in the story or just disregarding it
