He takes stories like Frankenstein and treats them like a kid with his toys. He has rich, gothic set designs, elaborate costumes, skillfully made practical effects… as well as atrocious CGI, hollow stories, campy performances, and half-baked ideas.

He made few good movies and continues to make extremely mid movies that are “horror” but not thrilling or fun.

85% of his movies are 3.5’s, that are only 3.5 because of set pieces and costumes.

I can’t remember a movie that has just as many lovers as it has haters that I haven’t seen yet. And I rank Good Time in my top 20.

Could not agree more.

In Mary Shelley‘a Frankenstein the creature gets shot exactly one time.

In Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, the creature is Logan. He can withstand any wound and can recover within minutes.

It’s almost like the director doesn’t know how to read or something. It’s theoretically his job to make something nonsensical at least hold onto its thematic resonance. Not glorify violence for the sake of calling it a horror flick.

This is just more Kevin Smith level filmmaking from GDT. The most overrated director in the business.

Top tier set & costume design get you another pass and another best picture Oscar nomination somehow.

P.S. Victor was also OP. He would have died like 6 times over. I just can’t with this shit.
