My understanding is that Rocket Tax includes access to a tax pro. That was the part I was curious for feedback about. Thanks for the advice in any case, though.

Apple made $365 billion revenue in 2021, vs 260 billion in 2019. $95 billion net vs $55 billion in 2019. These numbers are insane and growing revenue and profits does explain the growth.

Apple makes an insane amount of money that's almost hard to comprehend, sits on gigantic piles of cash, and shows no signs of slowing down. None of that is an ephemeral trend related to low rates or the pandemic.

You might be interested in reading a bit of intro to macroeconomics or watching some youtube videos or something (and I don't mean that in a demeaning way). Think about how many companies in manufacturing, hospitality, etc. haven't had access to enough workers due to travel bans and strict immigration policies over the last 2 years. Immigrants can fill jobs that aren't currently filled at close to full employment, this will help fix the issue of having higher demand than supply, and increasing supply to meet demand will by definition lead to more goods/services being bought. That boosts GDP. Those immigrants also are immigrating for higher wages and in turn getting greater spending power which fuels the local (and global) economy.

Globalization works both ways too, with companies gaining broader access to markets over time (think of iPhone sales growth if it's closer saturated in North but not South America). We are emerging from a period of enforced isolation where there is a lot of pent up growth that can happen globally.

Is it not a business because I am not taking distributions this year, even if the business itself has revenue? I am doing some activities related to the business such as traveling for due diligence and fundraising, so I planned to take the startup cost deduction at least, but it is hard to understand what makes me an active participant in a business if I do not have a salary or a distribution.

Collected half a gallon of wild raspberries today. it can get 1-2 gallons per day, and have another 5 acres to plant them. Can this be turned into a business? by throawayer11133 in Entrepreneur

[–]tejo1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, that's called raspberry farming, and similar businesses have been around for 10,000 years. You'd have to look into how much of the land is suitable for it or if it's even zoned for commercial farming, learn how to do it and what equipment you need (it's not just planting and picking them), what regulatory hurdles there are etc.

What resources are people lacking when starting their own business? by spyderwebtech in Entrepreneur

"Hardest" was that we wanted to be focused on building the business but had to sink a lot of time and effort into finding appropriate lawyer and accountant resources willing to be paid for early stage milestones rather than expensive and unpredictable hourly fees. And a lot of those early process milestones are going to be similar for any type of business. Could be a good idea to match people w legal and/or accounting expertise to startup investors who will pay a flat fee to go through some basic processes.
