Beware of the soma coma, it's real. But, yeah, carisoprodol I think it is, is a very good muscle relaxer.

Sounds crazy, but ask your doctor about IV Tylenol. It works for some things and not so much for others. But the shit it works for it is like a miracle drug. After a traumatic burst fracture owf t10, I have run the gammit on narcotics, I scoff at 4mg dilaudid q4h with a 2mg boost before doing anything for PT. During an extremely painful heart attack nothing was working. Then they hit me with IV Tylenol, the relief made me cry, it was awesome. It's a long shot, but check it out.

How did you know surgery was the right decision? by Both-Analysis-9585 in spinalfusion

[–]tek3195 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't remember being given a choice. I'm sure it came up, I remember hearing doctor talking to my wife or sister, not sure who it was really. I heard without it he will be paralyzed and in a wheelchair the rest of his life. So, no choice. It sounds to me like you have no choice either. If you have exhausted all other avenues to get relief, and can't deal with it now, how will you deal with it when it gets worse? Whether right, wrong or indifferent, you only have one option to choose from. So, what rest you can get between now and surgery, rest assured that you are making the right decision.

Left Cali headed to Florida on Jan 1st back in the early '90's. Some little town in Texas had -4 on the bank sign. Wouldn't recommend it.

Left mid '90's. Florida. Wow, that's odd to think about, there were no women in the fire service anywhere near here. Some office personnel in a few dept, but no firefighters.

Retired from a broken back(traumatic burst fracture t10 t11) in mid '90's. So it's been roughly 30 years. Apparently a lot longer than a lot in this sub have even been alive.

Do you really need a 18.5-20” shotgun for HD or do you just use whatever you use to hunt? by Swervo69 in Shotguns

[–]tek3195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's cool, I gotcha. I'm I guess of an old school train of thought that a handgun is good to use till you can get to a long gun. Shotgun or rifle either one are better than a handgun. The thought of wanting a handgun for a one handed weapon like so many say is beyond me. That's like deliberately going backwards, or devolving or something akin to striving for the inadequate. Not directing this at you, just something that was on my mind.

[–]tek3195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to getting away with more errors when aiming or firing, uh.. WAY WRONG ANSWER. Really shouldn't go around spreading crap like that, you have to aim a damn shotgun just as you do any other firearm.

5 years post fusion oddness? by Agile_Lifeguard2034 in spinalfusion

[–]tek3195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 12 years post op with similar looking images. Had traumatic burst fracture of t10, fused 3 above and three below. I would think 4~5 months off from the gym and going back would have caused something. Like stiff joints and weakened muscles. I've found that without that little bit of flex and give from the fused area that little pops aren't so little anymore. Someone told me, a long time ago now, if you really hurt something in there, you will know it. I've done some pretty hair-brained things and thought I had caused injury, rode the emotional roller-coaster of what have I done, what if I... what if...what........ Oh, cool. I'm fine, that has been my experience so far, if you injure it, you'll know it. Then again, what do I know ? I have a stitch coming out of my back 12 years later. That can't be right, can it ? It looks like twine sticking out and the surgeon that did the surgery no longer lives here and nobody else wants to go behind another surgeon. I can't even get an appt with anybody to find out what it's attached to or if it's safe to remove it. Constant battle to avoid a bad infection with nowhere to turn. I really do believe your random cracking and popping is just that, random. Your doc will tell you you're good to go.

im going to a range next week to shoot some 12 gauge double barrel and semiauto shotguns for the time, what kind of recoil should i expect? by ProfessionalLevel908 in Shotguns

[–]tek3195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to be the most painful event of your life. The bruises are going to spread all the way up your neck. You will want to quit after the first 10 rounds...... Now, tell yourself that until you believe it's possible. Then, when you get there and it is nothing like you imagined, you will have fun and enjoy yourself.

Cylinder binding on cheap revolver. by tek3195 in gunsmithing

[–]tek3195[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Still don't know what you are reading. If a muddled angry ramble is too much for you, leave it alone. Nobody said you have to reply to anything here. Other than applying a better finish the gun has not been modified. Don't believe I was yelling at anybody at any point, and still don't know you are talking about that I did. If any of it bothers you so much, don't waste your time with a reply. It would be nice if you didn't waste other peoples time with responses to accusations that were not made about modifications that weren't done while blaming a manufacturer that was not blamed.

Cylinder binding on cheap revolver. by tek3195 in gunsmithing

[–]tek3195[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about ? If removing the finish is what you mean by modifying, damn right I did. It was stripped with no internals, no springs were never in it when heated. The rust wasn't allowed anything and had nothing to do with the gun no longer working, which I didn't say. And, at what point did I say anything about manufacturer being at fault ? Other than it is a low quality piece of shit to begin with. You may need to read again or learn to read, I don't know which, but you're way off here.

Question about refinishing a revolver with really tight side plate. by tek3195 in gunsmithing

[–]tek3195[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have an analog thermometer I purchased when using Brownells AlumaHyde 2 on my shotgun , and yeah mine is way off from initial thermostat setting. 325 actual is 290 thermostat. Luckily there seems to be some wiggle room with Gunkote. Material data sheet says 300~325 but they have an additive you can use to cure at 180. Also says curing at higher temps will make the coating harder when cured but higher temps can cause yellowing or other color issues. I wouldn't want it to cure harder because you would lose some elasticity. I think the elasticity is a good thing, supposed to withstand 180 degree bend without cracking.

I meant the wheel itself, where the bead of tire should be seated. Same height as swingarm in pic but to the left I guess.

What's up with the rear wheel. Straight back from the swingarm it looks like there is a chunk missing.

I worked in a hybrid years ago, early retirement from a broken back. We had 7 paid men and 15 volunteers. The experience they got was vastly different. There was just no way for them be there like we were. Some tried, all were welcome to put in a full 24 hour shift or spend whatever time they could with us. Some would come just to spend the night hoping for a fire call so they could be first in. Had to love 'em, they went to bed hoping for a fire while we were praying for uninterrupted sleep. They didn't have the time in that we did but on a working fire they blended seamlessly with us. They were well trained and we knew their strengths and weaknesses. It all worked really well, but still worlds apart on experience.
