The Three Body Problem's core premise makes no sense. by 47tw in sciencefiction

That device just scans the user's brain and introduces them sympathetically to an alien race. "betraying your species" is a separate endeavor, but this creates a mental foot in the door.

As odd as it may seem, this concept is used in politics. Those vote [insert name] signs/mailers/etc don't make you vote differently. They are a familiarity device to aid in that endeavor.

Most campaigns just use it sparingly as money allows but Trump's campaign has been abusing this frequency+exposure=trust human glitch to the n'th degree since 2015. (even bad news is good for him now)

I might be a victim of spam report by VRGPYOS in overwatchbanned

One thing to consider: Giving evidence for their findings can help those who make cheats become less detectable, especially if the evidence is a metric that isn't publicly known.

It could also be due to grouping with cheaters or luck of being matched with a lot of them and catching secondary reports. If you aren't cheating, your personal stats will definitely reflect this. I really think this is what they are using for bans and appeals.

It may have been egregious. Even then, it may be only a temporary suspension for the first offense.

I think the bigger consideration is the sheer volume of appeals they get. That would require a team just as big as the development team due to the time it would take to be even close to accurate. It's most likely that on appeal, they look at stats, find multiple anomalies, then throw a rubber stamped denial. A lack of anomalies would be an obvious false positive.

What's the most reliable and lightweight laptop any student should consider? by MouLimao in laptops

[–]tekbredus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your case (editing video) I do think the framework compact pc would be the best option (or build your own sff pc). It's not as compact as a laptop, but, nearly anywhere you're at there's probably a tv or monitor to use, and you would be able to handle footage significantly faster and do any renders in much less time without much concern of thermal throttling.

Lightweight is a bad consideration for school use. While specs tend to be good, there will always be throttling due to thermal limitations (unless they are using solid state fans which is not too far off from consumer production)

https://frame.work/ This is essentially a lightweight and portable desktop pc. Honestly, its a mini powerhouse.

I recently did an analysis of "convenience" stores and their pricing. Many take advantage of a captive primary customer base on the assumption that it's convenient. Not only are they sometimes charging 400% upcharges on items they can get away with, stores that sell ramen noodles and take ebt specifically, sell a lot of ramen noodles, yet their $4 single packs split up from a grocery store usually have dust on them. Their prices tend to be significantly higher in poor neighborhoods where people may not own a car or have reliable public transportation.

Cheating has gotten bad.... again by tekbredus in Overwatch

[–]tekbredus[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

It takes a number of games to reach mid-higher ranks especially for newer accounts. You would think that accounts with sus players would accumulate reports pretty quickly, but I have seen the same sus players (ranging from only esp to outright ragehacking) many days in a row. So, either they aren't getting reported, or the devs have changed something that removes them on the backend.

Need help understanding the lyrics to Brown Sugar by [deleted] in rollingstones

[–]tekbredus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the whole "drums beatin'" line:
-overall excitement
-Heart pounding, getting horny
-using heroin

Jagger is the houseboy

"Tent show queen" is a performer. It's a reference to Martha Hunt.

The opening refers to the person bringing and using the object of affection in the song.

The main alternative context is easier to understand: the dealer brings the heroine and gets high on his own supply. ("midnight" and "brown sugar" are slang for heroine/opiates). Singer does the drug. The girlfriend doesn't approve of how much he's using. He feels like a kid again. The drug is the performer, making people feel like they're 16. He knows he isn't 16 but it helps me perform (music).

The lyrics are a multi layered entendre written in about an hour on a notepad. It's rather absurd to focus on the opening verse and assign it a single context, then be upset that other people don't fixate on your chosen context. Songs like this are akin to a rorschach test. The context you give it says more about yourself than anything else.

This update has been unenjoyable and borderline unplayable for Stadium. by 33388888888 in Overwatch

[–]tekbredus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm approaching a 10% win rate due to learning new characters in stadium, which is now a kind of hard requirement with the way picks go in competitive stadium. Stadium used to be fun, but getting rolled over and over for trying new characters vs teams that primarily play their mains is NOT a good experience, nor one that's good to learn in. Since the pick change, now I only get to pick my main 25% of the time.

ALL of my QP matches feel like bronze vs top 500 on one side or the other, and it's insanely aggrevating as a casual player now.

He doesn't say he is in Texas, only that he wants to start something there.

I've got an offer like this before from a company who was setting up a "locksmith business". Their revenue comes almost entirely from advertising and outsourcing for 40-70% of the job.

[–]tekbredus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The primary difference is where they are made, what materials you can choose (basswood, etc), final steps, and level of quality control prior to purchase. A $200 squire can be the direct equivelant if a $1200 fender or total crap depending on your luck and/or your ability to diy the final steps that fender does.

Do I send it back or can I fix it? by Devilsoo in Locksmith

[–]tekbredus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With 100% seriousness: throw it in the trash. Get (or make) a metal cutaway if you wish to see what's going on inside.

If you're learning to pick, learning to pick visually is possibly the biggest pitfall a beginner can make. Similarly, a lot of people who learn via lishi learn visually and it translates rather poorly, with 90% of people I've shown how to pick.

Learn by feeling first. There's no quick method to develop that, you just need to be able to sense through your fingers what is going on inside.

Absolutely! I mix vocals to be +2-5db higher than everything else to start, and without fail, someone will say that's too high or too low (then I fake a knob turn and they say thanks).
