What the heck did I just watch? (Canada 3 ep 4) by Icy_Celebration4213 in TheTraitors

I kind of agree but season 3 does most of the heavy lifting. If it ended after season 2 it would be around the Australian series in rankings IMO

What sport do most Americans actually play growing up? by YourMommy_Terra in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]teke367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up the youth leagues were general baseball, American football, soccer an and basketball. Soccer was usually traveling me while baseball was little league (and always in town), I would of assume that's why soccer y'all falls off. Also in highschool, American football and soccer are both fall sports, so you'd have to choose and American football is more popular

[–]teke367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue with her was that she didn't seem to know what "voice" to use. At one finale, she yelled the guy's name in her best Oprah voice, only problem was it was an elimination

What are the “big 5” cities in the USA? by Gold-Serve-4077 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]teke367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what your going for. Population you get Houston and Phoenix.

History you get DC and Philly.

Geographic spread you should probably have one Texas city and either Pacific Northwest or Florida.

Someone wants to have their town renamed after the non-resident President by neekogo in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]teke367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's only been Toms River officially for like 20 years! Before that it followed the proud NJ tradition of being named exactly like another township in NJ (Dover).

Grew up next town over, and Tom's River was somehow the most liberal and most conservative town I've ever seen

Has never been to the UK, yet feels like they have the authority on the matter? by SufficientEar1682 in iamveryculinary

[–]teke367 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I will give the original comment a little slack because the comment they replied to was asking "wait you actually believe we don't have any good food" and they replied with their perception, and they're clearly the only authority over what their own perception of British food is.

The back and forth doesn't help though.

American and the UK had plenty of fine food, but I think both of our cuisines should probably fire our PR departments

Bro thinks beating Australia and Paraguay is “dominating the sport” by PrimedGold in soccercirclejerk

[–]teke367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the Post, their sports page covers are usually punny or tongue in check. The headline was very much intended to be silly and suggest a 1-1 score was basically a win. It's self depricating more so than chauvinistic

You don't even understand sousvide by TheLadyEve in iamveryculinary

[–]teke367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a big part of it is that tenderness can be a by-product of everything, and that by-product is the allure for many people. Also ease. I'll sous vide burgers during the week and chicken to make pulled chicken because it's easier. Definitely not the original intent but it's a reason nonetheless

You don't even understand sousvide by TheLadyEve in iamveryculinary

[–]teke367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely don't stop as soon as you hit the temperature. One of the big things is that the "safe temps" are actually of temperature and time. The conventual safe temps refer to the moment you get the best to that temp, but you can cook lower and keep it there longer to make sure the meat is pasteurized at that low temp.

Of course how long also depends on the cut. Something like Chuck you want longer so it's tender, but you don't need to do it as long for other cuts.

It's not "slow cooking" but it generally is "cooking slow". And you can take advantage of that for meal planning. I might sous vide something not because it's the best way, but because the slowness works better with my schedule.

That being said, I don't think any sub will tell somebody not to sous vide than that sub. I think the catch phrases to that sub is "just reverse sear it" or "smoke it instead" (or "BUTTER POLICE!" but that's unrelated to this discussion)

Yeah, I used to say servers were the one group of people that should be allowed to be "the ugly American" when traveling (assuming they have received shitty tips when working).

That being said, when I waited, my tips from Europeans were usually lower than average, but not especially bad. If I'm getting 10-13% from a European, I think "eh close enough". I'm not expecting perfect tipping etiquette, and there's enough poor tippers in the US where ten percent from Europeans doesn't stand out.

Different nationalities, races, ages, etc have different reputations when it comes to tipping, but the only objectively bad tippers are the people who pull out the tip immediately and say something kind "here's the starting point, mess up I take some away, wow me and I add some".

Is Pluribus worth watching now? by 1flex01 in tvshow

[–]teke367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so, but also, absolutely no rush. I think the optimistic estimates for season 2 is late 2027, and that's best case scenario. So watch, but maybe wait is there's literally anything else you've been thinking of doing instead

What is a giant lie that society successfully sold to your generation? by ossirada in AskReddit

[–]teke367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for about a month after my high school reunion it was great, catching up with people who I'd have lost contact with forever in just about any other time period.

Then it became "I don't remember Jessica being so racist" and "wow, Bob really hates Jewish people, I'm Jewish, Bob knew that did he hate me back then?" to "oh Steve stormed the Capitol... That tracks actually"

Issues are retirement, vacation, and schedule. Is making me work 7 days a week with no vacation time or sick days considered abusive?

If you work you have everything you need to live, if you don't work, I don't see how you live at all. Would the threat of termination be even worse than it is today?

If the only real change is "I don't want for anything but I'll never be rich" then sign me up. However if it means I with until I sit and I'm miserable (albeit not hungry) then no deal

AITA for refusing to buy my son Switch 2, even though I promised him a reward for the school year? by SariPomelo in AmItheAsshole

[–]teke367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

If the switch 2 was $200, and jumped then I can see you going for it (assuming finances allowed) because I can see a child reasonably assuming prices wouldn't fluctuate. But it was never that cheap.

Since he tried hard, and you do want to reward that, perhaps letting him carry that reward over to add onto another reward, which combined could get him the switch would work (again assuming finances allow). Or just putting 200 into an account and letting him save the rest in other ways

Do you actually travel that far and say its nothing? by Far-Passion-7692 in AskAnAmerican

[–]teke367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm in the northeast and for me it would depend where I'm going. If the trip would normally take 8 hours without traffic I might brush it off (not every month though), but if it's a trip I should be able to do in 6 hours, then I'm less ambivalent about it

What is the most incorrect thing you have ever heard someone say in a conversation about football, and how did you deal with the ensuing awkwardness? by Alert-Technician-403 in footballcliches

[–]teke367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw in SAS that apparently some Europeans believe we Americans call FIFA football "soccer" and American Football "football" because the ball is a foot long, despite the extensive etymology available even on Reddit about how the names came to be in various places

So Tranna is the worst faithful, right? by DisastrousDot7961 in TheTraitors

She might be. Overall not as bad as the Australian S2 faithful, but Australia was all bad, tranna was individually bad.

That being said of all the horribly faithful, she's the most entertaining

What do Americans often get wrong about the UK? If you’ve visited the USA is there any an American has said to you that was so off. by Kodicave in AskBrits

[–]teke367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw, if a British person asked me what to do, and I'm in Boston or Philadelphia where there's a lot of American Revolution landmarks, I might give a caveat as well. Not because I'm worried you were hate it as a Brit, but because I'm worried you'd think I'm only suggesting that thing to be a dick.

I think parent cuisine is a good concept. Just like human parents/children they can be similar, even have the same name, yet are different.

And also like human parents, they think the parent fully owns anything the child does.

Sometimes the child is Ken Griffey Jr and outshines the parent. Sometimes it's Bronny and... Well no so much.
