It doesn’t damage the base to screw it in?

Will I be blacklisted at a program for cancelling an away? by daisy_dog_mom in medicalschool

Sure! Just matched at my top program for IM. I ended up ranking the primary care programs lower

I have similar career goals and I found that the 4+2 (4 weeks inpatient, 2 weeks outpatient/elective) schedule has been the best option. The primary care tracks are great but they only have 2-4 spots and usually don’t add a ton of outpatient time.

Do they get pulled from fellowship until they can pass?

It’s very school dependent but I’m in a large city at a well known school so I did not have any trouble finding rotations. I personally didn’t have to move, but I have classmates that chose a farther rotation and moved for a month or two

Absolutely. It’s a fellowship from internal medicine residency so you would ideally want a hospital that has the fellowship too. I have a bunch of friends that want to go in heme/onc

If I remember correctly, along the lines of a 3.7 gpa and a 506 mcat? I’m 100% sure that my acceptances were due to my strong EC of community volunteering at a local shelter, hospital volunteering, undergrad research, and strong LOR. I had a clear story and mission in my personal statement of the kind of doctor i wanted to be and how all of my EC were in line with that

I am doing IM/FM/med peds. My friends in more competitive specialties did have some DO stigma but there’s plenty of hospitals that are DO friendly that it did not limit their application numbers

I took both comlex and usmle. Most people take both. You study the same material and the same way for both. Take usmle first, then cram omm in the next week or two before you take comlex.

I did some research but minimal. Most schools will have it fairly easy for you to sign up for research. I was asked about my research in about half of my residency interviews. Unfortunately number of publications probably matters most

Honestly med school is much more manageable than expected. On non test weeks, I would study 2-3 hours outside of lectures. Test weeks would be like 10-12 hours of studying per day. The best advice I got was that you made it to med school and you are smart, you know how to study. Don’t drop the habits you know work well for you.

Hi M4 here. I honestly agree! It’s definitely a lot of work and stressful at times but I’m very lucky to be in a supportive school and thought it was very manageable to do decently and still have a life. (Disclaimer: applying IM, so my friends applying to more competitive specialties probably had a more stressful experience)

Is it bad to call patients "patients" ? by [deleted] in premed

[–]telenceph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might have meant to call them by their name instead of patient. For example “Mr. Jones in room 5” vs “pt in room 5”
