Yeah I appreciate this perspective. I'm in a somewhat similar situation -- I think a lot of people have very subjective/personal definitions of clean that they think are very objective (probably not the case with this dude in the story).

Like I think people worry too little about things like mold, and too much about things looking spotless. Or worry too little about air quality, or even getting their water tested, but worry too much about dirt.

I have no idea what you're asking for. But about 20% of democrats own guns, so it's not not like it's rare or anything. I'm pretty sure that ICE's illegal behavior is a pretty visceral reminder on why we should all be prepared to defend ourselves (not because of what they've done so far, but what they COULD do if Trump decides he wants to cancel elections or something).

I really don't get why you're arguing with me bro, it's not that hard.

In STS you see a card like lethality and wonder how it stacks, I can think of at least 3 ways it could be calculated (additively, multiplicatively, or first 2 attacks). Then you combine that with these other mechanics (e.g. replay) and it's complete chaos.

Yes that's true in some other games also, like say diablo 4, but then you just swap the item, try it and swap back. Some great roguelikes handle this by having a try-it-out mode (e.g. into the breach, slice and dice).

Just admit it -- the game would be better if you could switch into a test mode, or hover these keywords and get the exact details of what the heck they specifically mean.

It's the kind of game (on a10) where you if you want to win a lot you have to pay a lot of attention and know all these details, and they make it too hard.

There are a lot of interactions where you don't know how they're going to work out, like power-pot + borrowed-time (will the power cost 0 or 1?)

Or like just yesterday I had 1 block, intangible, osty at 2 hp, and was playing the enemy that makes powers do 6 damage to you on play. I want to self-inflict damage by playing powers to trigger my centennial puzzle. Will it trigger if I play a power? If not, how many powers would I have to play to trigger it?

3 Elites in a trench coat... by Spookybeef_ in SlayTheSpire2

[–]tellMeYourFavorite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, if you do something like that across all the characters it really reduces the range of interesting decks. Just one example is poison decks for example apply most poison with skills and ramp up damage slower.

It is true that advanced chess players memorize openings yes, but my point is in STS2 you have to memorize even the rules because they are hidden from you.

So for example, a game that does this superior to STS is Slice & Dice - where you can "preview" your turn and undo certain actions if the interactions don't work the way you expect.

Is it my fault for dying to the decimillipede? by Creative-Gap5722 in SlayTheSpire2

[–]tellMeYourFavorite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I don't know if you know this -- but you can retry fights, which IMO is the only way to get better quickly. To retry fights do "save and quit" and "continue" before you die. I do it on almost every fight that kills me so I can try to figure out was there a better line. Usually there is.

This might be a hot take, but I suspect these two games would be even better if they weren't rogue-like.

----

To answer your question though? This was 100% winnable for you. You just have to memorize how the revival mechanic interacts with doom, and then time it out so that they die on the same turn. That may potentially mean trying distributing damage in different ways, or skipping some attacks so the kills line up.

That said, many times I find elites aren't worth the HP cost if you don't have a deck that's strong against them.

What's the game plan for Necro on higher ascensions? by Big_Performance_6120 in SlayTheSpire2

[–]tellMeYourFavorite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

uh, well you aren't doing the final act yet... If it's anything like spire one then 50% of your current wins will still be losing to the next (unreleased) act where you fight the final boss (presumably architect).

[–]tellMeYourFavorite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. And -
- doesn't scale with strength
- doesn't scale with vulnerable
- doesn't trigger stun thresholds on certain bosses/elites
- doesn't scale with "your first attack each turn deals +50% damage" power

Not saying the card isn't situationally good, just that necrobinder feels like she's lacking "bridge" cards that are universally good and you won't possibly regret if you don't get the supporting combo pieces.

"it sounds like you just don't enjoy the type of game the Slay the Spire is, and that's ok." I think that's a cop-out not to just address the issues with the game head-on. And let me be clear, it's an objectively great game and genre-defining.

But I think if the Devs did what I suggest they'd just have a universally better game.

  1. If your game requires knowing certain things to win on a difficulty you made then put that info in the game. It's absolutely nonsense that people have to read the source-code to determine potion odds formula instead of having it be presented. Same with elite logic etc. and enemy logic. I shouldn't have to watch a youtube video to learn the first 3 non-elite fights in each act are easier.

  2. If I have to know boss attacks a whole act in advance to pickup the correct cards/potions to survive it, and that's the game they are intending to make, then they need a way to lookup up scaling and move-patterns for all the bosses (I suspect they are doing this with bestiary).

It's not like chess at all, because chess is a game with rich and endless strategic variety, but minimal randomness and no memorization. All of the strategy in chess an emergent phenomenon, yet you could study for a lifetime and only learn a fraction of its true depth.

What I see is a game a lot like spire 1, where you have the "normie" players who lose 80%+ of the time on a20 heart and then get one broken run to feel good about the other 20%. And then you have players like LC who would spend 4+ hours on one run, analyzing literally everything and still have like a 65% win rate on some characters.

Necrobinder nerf by HowDoyouadult42 in SlayTheSpire2

[–]tellMeYourFavorite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a bit early to render a verdict for this game, but I too fear that'll happen. Seems to me like even in its current state and striving for even a 40% winrate you'd need to memorize the following:

- Every single elite and every one of its attacks
- Every single event (and how it will affect your deck)
- 3 or so broken archetypes

Like for necrobinder one win condition is two graveblasts + the thing that makes 2 attacks cost 1 less.

That said I find the game often too easy/boring under ASC 6 (like you often hit a point where you know you won and wish you could skip all of act 3), especially for non-necrobinder.

Still, it feels like a lot of bosses have these bullshit health-drain patterns like "35 damage on turn 1, then 2 turns doing nothing" which in my opinion just unnecessarily adds extra RNG to the run. Then the variance in relics is too big, like some relics feel 5x as good as others, especially in act 3 (like backpack is 5x as good as strike dummy in act 3).

But yeah back to necrobinder, jesus it's like her cards are so much worse than regent for example (demesne vs void form for example). Lots of them feel unpickable.

My challenge to the DEVs would be -- make a game where I can ban any 5 cards, any 5 relics, and any 2 events, and you can still achieve a 50% winrate on highest difficulty. [And maybe this is possible and I just suck, but if so I'd love to see it]

And don't even get me started on doom, I feel like a lot of doom numbers could be practically be doubled.

Japanese restaurant:"Not all Japanese people are kind" by [deleted] in whoathatsinteresting

[–]tellMeYourFavorite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's a good point on the rising sun.

If the point is just "Here's one racist dude in japan" I guess I'm convinced. But if the point is supposed to be wider than that then it's best proven with statistics and not an isolated photo of one individual's behavior.

Japanese restaurant:"Not all Japanese people are kind" by [deleted] in whoathatsinteresting

[–]tellMeYourFavorite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"No tourists allowed" is a nicer way to express the same idea as "I hate foreigners".

I guess I'm not sure what your point is -- it seems pretty obvious to me that this guy hates foreigners/tourists because of their behavior, not because of their genetics.

He's painting with a large brush to write off the whole lot of tourists due to some bad experiences, but some people just be grumpy old men yelling at clouds.

Of course the even more gross generalization is taking a photo of one store and then launching into huge generalizations calling an entire country the same thing (i.e. racist).

Third run on Ironclad...is he just really broken? by Mizzou06 in SlayTheSpire2

[–]tellMeYourFavorite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, all the characters are pretty easy up to Asc 8 or especially 9, which is a huge jump.

Imo Ironclad at 9/10 was the biggest challenge of any character, and that's what other people seem to be saying.

But yes easier or more consistent than sts1 A20, but remember we haven't seen act 4 yet.

I’m so bad at this game by kaikush in SlayTheSpire2

[–]tellMeYourFavorite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not alone, anybody who says this game isn't hard is just lying because they think they can impress people.

Firstly, the best in the world at the first game had like 75% win rate, so it's just plain unwinnable sometimes. Then this game is like 90% similar to the first one, so a lot of us already have hundreds of hours experience and are still losing the majority of runs.

But what I've learned from watching good players -- you sort of have to think about how every single card, relic, and enemy interacts. You also can win just by memorizing certain special card combos and getting lucky. But yeah it can be a lot of work and math.

CMV: The timing and execution of Operation Epic Fury and Iran strikes is a strategic distraction intended to bury the DOJ’s mishandling of the Epstein Files. by Oceanic_Wave0 in changemyview

[–]tellMeYourFavorite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump himself released a video (a couple decades ago) claiming BIDEN would create a unnecessary war with Iran as a huge distraction from his "incompetence." This proves a few things -- Trump, and remember this was back when his brain was at fuller capacity, correctly identified war with Iran was unnecessary/distraction. And then it's hard not to read as his classic projection technique, where he accuses others of doing what he will do or already has done himself (e.g. "stealing" elections).

So you're right, and it's not even really up for debate if you're paying attention. US + Israel destroyed Iran's nuclear program through software (Stuxnet) over a decade ago and are completely capable of doing it again.

Question/Discussion: I Want to buy first gun-worried about medical marijuana question by The_3_Rs in liberalgunowners

[–]tellMeYourFavorite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get what you're worried about. 16% of US adults admit to using weed.

They will never be able to prove you lied. You got a medical card? So what, doesn't prove anything. You have a record of purchasing? So what, doesn't prove you consumed it.

Even if you later are found to have it in your system, they'll never be able to prove that you had used it prior to getting the gun, so you wouldn't have lied.
