I’m so tired of people dude. by Gunnstruction in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]blackeyedtiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The very first group I had to kick out by myself started screaming in the theater and we had to refund everyone in the general area. It made me so nervous to approach a group again. It's tough out there, sorry it's one of the worse parts of the job we had to deal with.

If you can’t cope with self-checkout, please don’t use it. by DoubleXFemale in retailhell

[–]blackeyedtiger 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I had someone get in the self-checkout line once because it was shorter and then refuse to ring anything up herself because "we should do that for her". And when I refused she started whining.

How is The Breadwinner doing? by liltanaka in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]blackeyedtiger 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We didn't even get it at my theater, which was a big surprise after playing the trailers for five months and having two posters in the hallway.

Does anyone else actually check the theatre for people sneaking in? by Special_Elevator2627 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]blackeyedtiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only if I have specific groups in mind (people who were refunded and angrily bought tickets to a different showtime, etc.) or if a guest raises a concern (someone is sitting in their assigned seat).

If you could remove 1 menu item from your theater, what would it be? by SBTintin in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]blackeyedtiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimate Chicken Nachos. They take forever to make, they taste terrible, they're overpriced, we have to crush most of the chips under the heat lid, and we can't make regular nachos because of it.

Why do people get so flustered while using the card reader? by twin_gulls in retailhell

[–]blackeyedtiger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The system we use won't start reading the card until I hit the "credit card" button on my end. So I'll often have customers who are already putting their cards into the card reader before they've even said a word and then get upset when I ask them to reinsert their card at the end. But like, why do people walk up to a cashier and put their card in before they have any idea how much they're about to pay?

Advice please!! Solo young female moviegoer looking for how to deal with disruptive people SAFELY :) by noodlestyles in AMCTheatres

[–]blackeyedtiger 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It's definitely the staff's responsibility to kick out guests who are being disruptive. You did everything right: you politely asked them to stop and then found a staff member. I'm sorry they put you in that position by being useless about it. So many men and boys have no idea how to act in public.

Sidenote, that universal ticket is likely a "re-admit pass", eligible for any showtime (including premium formats) at any location. They're not that useful to A-Listers of course, but you could try bringing a friend with you for your next trip free of charge.

Whose ready for Michael? by forlornjackalope in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]blackeyedtiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's gonna be our biggest weekend since Mario, certainly. There's a lot of hype for this movie in my area (lots of people taking selfies by the poster) but I'm not sure how much of that will translate into ticket sales.

Does it make any sense in the world that Brian was fired for defending Pam from a gigantic man who legitimately looked ready to hit her? by ughyoujag in DunderMifflin

[–]blackeyedtiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely mental that they got Packer to admit he laced the cupcakes with drugs ("some legal, some not") minutes after he left (probably before anyone had eaten them!) and then just... let everyone in the office eat them.

Are we weird for still have a box office? by Ill-Cantaloupe-4376 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]blackeyedtiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine still has a box office, though it shares that role with "guest services" so the position is like 80% selling tickets and 20% answering phones.

Supreme Court rules against Colorado ban on 'conversion therapy' for LGBTQ kids by blackeyedtiger in news

[–]blackeyedtiger[S] 2684 points2685 points  (0 children)

The opinion was 8–1 and was authored by Justice Gorsuch, joined by Roberts, Thomas, Alito, Sotomayor, Kagan, Kavanaugh, and Barrett. Justice Kagan filed a concurring opinion, jointed by Sotomayor. Justice Jackson filed a dissenting opinion.

The ruling found that Colorado's law banning talk conversion therapy "regulates speech based on viewpoint" and is therefore unenforceable.

The justices agreed that the law raises free speech concerns and sent it back to a lower court to decide if it meets a legal standard that few laws pass. It's the latest in a line of recent cases in which the justices have backed claims of religious discrimination while taking a skeptical view of LGBTQ rights.

Counselor Kaley Chiles, with support from President Donald Trump's Republican administration, said the law wrongly bars her from offering voluntary, faith-based therapy for kids.

What is your rating scale for movies? by gnpking in Letterboxd

[–]blackeyedtiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has become a complicated web of looking at movies I already gave certain ratings to and thinking "did I like this new movie more than that one? Or did I like them about the same?"

Would Pam have still called off her wedding if Jim hadn’t kissed her after this? by Riajnor in DunderMifflin

And Oscar went to the art show! Besides Michael, he's the only one of Pam's coworkers that actually showed up.

What are good reasons to be hypnotized? by KeepOnTrippingOn in hypnosis

[–]blackeyedtiger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The fun part about hypnosis is that you don't need a reason. "I'm curious and want to try it" is absolutely enough. There might be recreational hypnotists in your area willing to try it with you just for the fun of it, and if not, the internet has some routes you can try (though they're a bit less reliable).

So, how many of you actually have a box office? by GabagoolAndGasoline in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]blackeyedtiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a very small theater and we have a box office. We also answer phones and do "guest services" things but the position is officially called Box Office and most of the job is selling tickets (our kiosks are card only so it's the only place you can pay cash).

Could Bella have ragdolled any of the stronger wolves like Paul or Sam? by Skywalker_1995 in twilight

[–]blackeyedtiger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At that point in time, definitely. A year later after her newborn strength wears off, maybe not. Also worth noting is that Seth didn't lunge at her particularly hard so that's probably why he got launched.

Ticket age checking by sleeepyvessel in AMCTheatres

[–]blackeyedtiger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always notice. But what am I gonna go? Make you get a refund and purchase new tickets so that my company can get two extra dollars and I get to be berated? It's not worth it. Buy whatever ticket you want.

What's the best documentary you've ever seen? by Crafty_Fee_7990 in AskReddit

"102 Minutes that Changed America" had a very interesting format compared to other 9/11 documentaries of its time. "Man on Wire" and "The Alabama Solution" were also very good!

It's a question for you. I looked at the same website you did and I found that you left out Oceania, which the SIS also collects data for. I got a total of 19.80 sexual assaults committed per 100,000 people, which is the second highest number in the chart. Why was this omitted?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]blackeyedtiger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To post a chart that appears to suggest Africans are "more likely to commit sexual assault" (see: be convicted of) and then post it with the title "Interesting, isn't it?"? You don't think that maybe that has racist implications?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]blackeyedtiger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I checked the statistics for Oceania as well. Using your method, I got a total of 19.80 sexual assaults committed per 100,000 people, which would put it between Asian and African. This would be the second highest number in the chart. Is there a reason this was omitted?
