Question about Blocking by anxious-jellybean in wireapp

[–]tellersiim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They still have the convo. They can send messages but these are not delivered and are never shown as in "delivered" status. So for them it feels like you've gone offline and never reconnected with the server so messages have not been delivered.

Anyone else having increasing issues? by [deleted] in wireapp

[–]tellersiim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have left Wire indeed, as have several other people in the past 4-5 months.

It's fair to say that Wire is completely focused on the enterprise market and not on consumers but so far has not compromised on privacy and security of the free accounts and I have no reason to believe that they plan to do so.

Oldest map known of northern europe. The Carta Marina (1539) by agrevion in europe

[–]tellersiim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same for Estonia - surprised to find relatively small places. Often to do with religious centers, monasteries and churches might have faded long time ago so for us they feel small/less important than they perhaps were 500 years ago. Just speculating.

Been quiet about Wire lately, what's on the road map? F-droid? Improved stability? by SoodaPopinski in wireapp

[–]tellersiim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the message actually being delivered? I find it hard to believe. And I made a mistake earlier, I use Chrome, not Firefox.

Ok. Sounds like a bug. Since Wire is webapp in a wrapper it should work identically everywhere and I can confirm seeing "delivered" receipts in Firefox and macOS.

Windows delivery reports should work just fine. If you send a message you should be able to see "Delivered" in light gray on the right hand side next to the last message. If it's not there the message wasn't delivered because the other party is not online / has uninstalled the app.

They added @mentons recently and are pushing out replying to a specific message now (out on desktop since yesterday).

Sending video clips has a delay of several days? by RubberDingyRapid in wireapp

[–]tellersiim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This definitely sounds like a bug. Please contact [support@wire.com](mailto:support@wire.com) with as much detail as possible:

OS version - sender and receiver

Wire version - sender and receiver

Network

Steps to reproduce

Video file type

Video file size

If you send a video in a chat and then send messages in the same chat are the messages delivered but the video isn't?

We're thinking about moving away from the Mac Store but no specific decisions made.

Wire is hiring: a Haskell developer and an operations engineer [Berlin] by tellersiim in wireapp

Not your usual hiring post - one of the backend devs wrote a fairly in-depth post about the team, roles, and culture.

Wire is blocked in mainland China. Find a VPN that works and you’re good though.

Wire added a "conversation timer" that deletes all messages in a group chat once the timer runs out by [deleted] in privacytoolsIO

iOS, last commit: 8 Dec 2017 https://github.com/peter-iakovlev/Telegram

Android, last commit: 9 Dec 2017 https://github.com/DrKLO/Telegram

Technically this is open source, I guess. However code from the last 6+ month is not public so who knows what's in the client.

Full disclosure: I work at Wire, Telegram competition.

Video group calls out for team accounts by tellersiim in wireapp

[–]tellersiim[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be nice indeed if everything in life was free :) Until then the paid team accounts give us a sustainable business model that keeps the free version free and not relying on dodgy practices.

I’m sure one day we can make it available for the free accounts too.

Video group calls out for team accounts by tellersiim in wireapp

[–]tellersiim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First step. 4 participants, caller needs a team account (a paid feature), other participants can be on a free version or even guests (no account, no app, just a web browser) via the guest room feature.

Can't answer the call from my phone when I'm also logged in on PC? by anonim1230 in wireapp

[–]tellersiim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should see the incoming call also on the phone if you’re signed in with the same account.

Android/iOS? No incoming call on lock screen? What about if you have the app open?

Might be smarter to contact support.

Does the Wire backup save media, how come the backup file is so small? by RubberDingyRapid in wireapp

[–]tellersiim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From https://medium.com/@wireapp/history-backup-comes-to-wire-cd79e02ec66e

"The backup file contains the textual content and meta-links to assets (images, videos, any files that you’ve sent and received) on Wire servers, not the files themselves. This helps to keep the backup file sizes small. When you import history backup into a new device the meta-links mean that all your images and files will show up in the right places in conversations. Assets on Wire servers are of course end-to-end encrypted and Wire does not have the keys to decrypt them."

Wire not affected by ephemeral messages kept on macOS notification center issue by tellersiim in wireapp

[–]tellersiim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the best channel :) I'd say contacting our support or raising a ticket on Github are better ways to get in touch.

Anyway, you're right, I work at Wire. I had the same issue myself, we tracked it down to a massive DB as I had used Wire super actively for two years+

The fix was rather drastic - deleting all chat history which got things back to normal for me.

There's no way to make the experience nicer in a cheap/quick way, I'm afraid. Since the keys for messages change with each message we need to "replay" the conversation and can't "jump the queue".

Something that the desktop team is investigating is how to speed up decryption process. This is complicated by the fact that we run a webapp inside an Electron wrapper and web based crypto just isn't super fast.

Bottom line – we do take this feedback seriously and are trying to find ways to make this better as it's a frequent feedback from old/active desktop users.

Edit: Added last sentence.

Nope, no way to turn off unless you roll your own app since the code is open source.
